Weeknight prime-time race should be next NASCAR gamble

They already play Saturday games. Only during the playoffs though for the Wildcard and Divisional games weekends. It's the NFL. The world revolves around them. They will more than likely get what they want.
That's after college and HS ball ends though. They sometimes play a regular season game on a Saturday but it's also in that small window in the mid-to-late December.

If you notice, most of those mid-week college games take place in smaller stadiums. It's rare for one of those with a 90,000+ stadium to host one of those games. So you're talking about a smaller crowd to get to those games. I think it would be harder to get 100k+ fans to get to a NASCAR race mid-week. Most fans travel a considerable distance to get to a race. From a TV standpoint, it would be a hit. Not sure how well it would work at the gate.

They should try it at a smaller, fresh venue first. The race at Eldora last year was the 10th-most watched Truck race SPEED ever had and a quick sellout.

How many shows do the World of Outlaws run during the week???? Those guys seem to race two or three times a week. I think a Wednesday night show in Rockingham followed by a Sunday show at Charlotte or Darlington or even Richmond would be a great week.

It doesn't have to be Sprint Cup either. Just running a Nationwide race on Wednesday or Thursday would be a ratings draw. From everything I've been told, that ARCA Summer Series package NBC Sports Network ran last year drew strong ratings, higher than NBCSN's Live IndyCar broadcasts actually, and those were shown at 11pm on Thursday nights.

I imagine NBCSN will air the K&N and Whelen Modified Tour races on weeknights in primetime given the success of the ARCA package last year.

I always thought they should make Memorial day weekend into a four day event at Charlotte Like All Star race on Thursday, Trucks Friday, NNS Saturday in primetime with the 600 on it's regular Sunday. Also, make the All Star a qualifying race and not an all star race. It opens the Saturday before for an off weekend or another primetime race.

They run quite a few. But they're also racing at places that hold 3,000-5,000 fans.

The NFL's primetime stuff is starting to run its course. Every year, every week, it's the same teams playing in primetime while several NFL teams don't get a Sunday or Monday game and haven't in years. Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Green Bay, and the Giants..... yawn. Same teams, every week, all the time. I can probably count on one hand how many times I watched the game of the week last year and I don't think I ever watch the Monday night games.

NFL Network sucks but at least the Thursday Night Football games feature different teams and different games.

Those games draw huge ratings, though. Sunday Night Football averaged 21.7 million viewers per game last year.

It doesn't matter what game you put on Sunday night. It's primetime and it's national broadcast television. And the NFL has flex scheduling options.

Yep. The SNF game is usually the best game of the week, that's what is drawing the eyeballs. The most interesting MNF game last year was probably Panthers-Patriots, and ESPN got lucky on the Panthers turning into a playoff team. And the Thursday night slate...NSFW.

Am I the only one who is against this idea? Saturday night races like this weekend are already confusing enough. Scheduling them on school days (or work days for most people) will cause more confusion and disrupt more people's schedules. Sunday is the day of the week I typically set aside for racing, and NASCAR is what gives me something to do on Sunday.

Also, don't expect people from out of town to show up for a mid-week race.
