I think there needs to be some serious changes, like making the race shorter, and allowing auto manufacters playing a bigger role in the design of the chassis and motors of the cars, but other than that, I enjoy the sport. :cool:
 
I like Nascar but don't understand alot of the chase rules.

Don't like the road courses.

Don't like the races that take forever.

Don't watch them now like I use to back in the 90's ... miss those guys who raced in that time frame.

Guess that's all ...
 
I like the sport as much today as I did when I started following it a little over 30 years ago. I've see many changes throughout the years most of which I liked or grew to like. Some I don't but I've learned to live with them.

My guess is that most every post in this thread will be negative yet all will continue to follow the sport.
 
Do you means the series or the governing body. Same name, different subjects.

I love the sport of NASCAR, but the governing body makes it's decisions based on their short term bottom line.

The fact that the governing NASCAR owns tracks, makes the rules and decides how and when to enforce them is a big negative. By owning tracks and competing with teams for sponsor dollars they end up with huge conflict of interest issues when enforcing the rules and making decisions about where the sport should be headed.
 
I love NASCAR, it's the ONLY sport I watch every event. Is NASCAR perfect, heck no, but then again nothing in life is perfect.
 
I think the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series needs shorter races and more short tracks. Thats part of the reason i prefer series like the K&N Pro Series, Canadian Tire Series and ARCA Racing Series.

I would probably be a fan of those racing series if they actually televised the race, or at least have online streaming for the race.

K&N East had live coverage of the Richmond race. K&N West had live coverage of the finale last week at Phoenix. They also had the Showdown live in January. The rest of the K&N races are televised tape delayed. Canadian Tire races are only shown in Canada unfortunately (when it used to be called CASCAR Speed showed them tape delayed). ARCA has half of their races on TV although only like 1 short track race is shown.
 
So far, the posts have been pretty much positive which really surprises me given the fact that so many threads have been very hateful of NASCAR. And yes, I'm talking about the sanctioning body.

Not sure, but I think that most of the people on this forum like racing in general, though there are many who like one particular series better than the others. NASCAR has become today what it is basically because of TV exposure. When the boom began, NASCAR loved it and wouldn't change much of anything. Then with the more exposure came better competition and with that came more expense. That prompted the teams to look for bigger sponsorship money and etc. NASCAR saw that with teams depending on more and more sponsorship, especially from the manufacturers, in order to allow the sport to grow, it had to even things up within the competitors, thus began the never ending rules changes for the cars into what we have today is three different models that look and act exactly alike.

Once NASCAR pretty much hit it's peak and saw that the champion was not a very particularly popular one, they realized that something had to change or the fan base would wane. Also, the fan base had become much younger and thus to appeal to the younger fan base, they had to give the sport a different image. So radical changes were once again needed, or so they deemed.

I'm not sure NASCAR will ever regain the lofty perch it once had, but I'm sure the sanctioning body will continue to try and gain more and more fans by trying to make the championship race as exciting as possible. Like it or not, the Chase is probably here to stay and one day there will be many more fans that have only been around since the Chase began and won't know how it used to be. BTW, before 1973 when RJ Reynolds began to market the sport, there were many changes in the points system, so the only thing that has been consistent is change itself, as the old saying goes.

Personally, as for myself, I'm strictly a fan of racing and I can watch any kind of racing just for the race itself. I couldn't care less about who wins the championship, I'd just like to see my favorites win races. And I love to watch the races within the race.
 
Reality Check:

NASCAR fandom was a distant second to CART prior to Tony Effen George's decision to start the IRL. That split allowed NASCAR to surpass CART as the American Motorsport of choice.

I watched NASCAR and CART with equal interest. After the introduction of the Home VCR (and Cable TV) I recorded every televised race I could not watch live. But after the open-wheel split (and the subsequent non-broadcasts of open wheel racing) I tended to focus more on NASCAR, naturally.

I am a Race Fan - first and foremost! But points and championships do matter to me.

Based upon my choices in this poll, I will have to go with C cause it best fits my feelings.
 
I'd like to see some changes made for the better of the sport but I still watch no matter what usually. I do wish Nascar would be consistent with the calls they make for once. Park Kyle Busch yet let Vickers go when they pretty much did the same thing.

I "like" it...it's fun to watch, I DVR almost all races and watch them sunday night or monday morning. Summer is too short to spend 4 hours in front of the tv.

I've been to most of the tracks on the current cup schedule. Sonoma is definitely my favorite track to see the cup series at. Really great weekend.
 
I have been around racing of all sorts, all of my life. When I was an infant, I was taken to the local short tracks. My father raced hydroplanes. My grandfather and several of my uncles raced on the local short tracks.

Like DP, I have been following NASCAR for over thirty years. If I were against change, I would most likely hate the sport. Truth is, I love it and always have a tough time getting through the winters because the short tracks close up and Daytona is my next race.

If it has a motor and goes fast, count me in.
