Would you rather have the races on ABC/ESPN part of the season or ALL of the races on Pay Per View and be promised good coverage and pay 19.95 a race.

Ditto. They can step up the coverage without making it PPV. That would be the ultimate form of greed and would kill off the fan base pronto.

Stepping up the coverage

would be easy! All they have to do is fire 80% of the crew and take away the cutaways and the cameras from the cars..
Then install some WIDE angle lens around the track so MORE cars would be in every shot.. Then hire some fans to sit in the trucks to change the views that are being broadcast.
The last thing that might be done is to MUFFLE the only announcers that are still there..
Betsy:rolleyes:

TNT managed great coverage, commercial free, without being PPV.

Why can't ESPN/ABC manage half that?

On that note, that's part of why they went in the first place. ESPN wanted to move some (if not all) of their races to PPV while FOX was offering to air the races on rabbit ears.

But, I have Comcast and can't get the races on PPV.

You did not answer the question.

That's a couple of rather biased questions. The majority here want racing on "Free" TV but we also want a professionally ran show.

The question of PPV is an old one for myself and the crowd that I run with. As for myself, I could go with PPV if the price was reasonable, but I don't think that anything under $50 would be what they would consider reasonable. :) Still, from those old arguments, one of the questions was if they did offer PPV, would they still have commercials. In my opinion, yes they would but would use the split screen to show live racing. To me, that would not be acceptable, but then again, I don't want to pay much for the service. So, with that answer, and the fact that I voted NO, I would, but I wouldn't pay much for it.

Remember when both Pocono races were on PPV in the 80's. I have no idea what the sign up was but my gut tells me they may have lost there butts.

I would pay to watch races with good coverage. I'll admit it. I would, of course, rather have it for free but I would budget a reasonable amount of money a week to watch races. I think $25-$30 for access to excellent coverage of the "race weekend" Busch, Truck and Cup would be OK and I'd pay it.

Well considering I got satellite radio with the express purpose of listening to the races and for that I pay $12.95 a month, if they were to price the races like they do the NFL package, ~159 for the season, I'd probably buy it.

PPV

However, I also enjoy bitching about ESPN's coverage (I don't see that changing) so it's a 50/50 thing for me.

No, I would not pay what they would 'probably" charge to watch a race. I can imagine that if they went to PPV that some of the cookie track races would not have any viewers. The only way it may work would be to have something like a season ticket........and I would then have to think seriously about it, depending on the cost, but am undecided at this point

You wont see me paying to watch a race on TV....i already pay for cable tv.

Option 3: Go to the races.

I go to every race I can now because of ESPN.

I dont have a bottomless wallet nor the time to go to all of the races.

If nascar went to PPV....id stay to the stick and ball sports that do not charge extra to watch them on TV.

What do I REALLY want, professional coverage without all the glitz and a announcing team that doesn't suck.

I pay enough for cable as it is. Sorry, this bank account is on a serious budget so I would be out of luck if it were ppv. Geeeze..we just got DIGITAL cable this past summer since we were holding out because of funds. The offer was just too good to pass up so at least I get SPEED now. We lost some hockey games several years back and my husband just had to do without because we weren't going to pay a bunch to get them back. Fortunately, they've been getting good coverage so whatever they tried to do with that, didn't work.

Yep, give me some decent coverage. I don't think that's too much to ask for... oh yeah, and someone who doesn't sound like a complete moron up in the booth. I'm what you are probably referring to as a "neofan" but I don't think of myself that way even if I've only been watching regularly this season. That being said, even though I'm new, I already understand plenty that I don't need their dumb demos. Maybe I'm a quick learner? :rolleyes:B)

If they want to explain racing to a first time viewer, DON'T put Crusty in the booth. He sucks, sorry.

Everytime they say it's the advantadge of the clean air, I cringe.

And NASCAR still isn't consistent with their penalties. :XXROFL:

ESPN needs to look at how they covered races back in the 90's. It seems most people were happy with their coverage at that time. I know I was.
:beerbang: :beerbang: :beerbang:
I vote no to PPV.
