What happens if there's a tie for 10th @ the conclusion of Richmond?

A 10th position Dale Jr/Kurt Busch tie would yield the spot to Jr. with 2 runner up finishes this year.

Speaking of tie-breakers, I'm still disappointed that NASCAR didn't do something more imaginative in 2011 when Stewart and Edwards were tied for the SEASON CHAMPIONSHIP.

How 'bout borrowing a page from the PGA and have the two drivers that tied go another "18-holes" to settle the matter.

I liked the way it was handled. Edwards knew he had to score more points prior to Homestead not just tie, based on wins. Stewart knew a tie was good enough for the same reasons.

there is no tie in nascar,I suppose there could be but imagine the odds of that. if the points are tied then it goes wins and finishes next, top 5's etc. so it just means whomever lost the tie breaker would be 11th in points and if they don't have wins then they get bumpped from the chase. just like anyone else finishing in 11th spot with no wins. I can't see what all the hoopla is about.

So 2 drivers dont make the chase? Tiny chance of it happening but it would be interesting if it happened.

next time......call vegas.....somebody's bet on this i'm sure. ha!

How in the hell does paper beat rock? Next time I play this game, when someone says paper, I'll punch them in the face and say "I thought the paper was going to protect you".
I recall my 10 year old sister telling me that once.

And in the rare event that there's a four-way tie I can imagine Brian France crawling into a hole somewhere.

I think he'd love it. The Chase would be creating controversy and excitement and we'd all be tuning in to see what happened.

Also, everybody has new avatars and I can't keep track of who is who.

I agree 100% that both Stewart and Edwards knew what needed to be done prior to the last race in 2011.

It just seems to me that using a tie-breaker to settle a season championship is somewhat anti-climactic.

Can you imagine the Super Bowl being tied at the end of regulation and then having the NFL championship decided by who had the best regular season record ?

A 50-lap shoot-out between Stewart and Edwards at Bristol the week after Homestead would have been cool.

Real cool. It's in the low 50's high 40's degrees in Bristol at that time of the year. March is bad enough but late November early December IDK. Love the 50 lap idea though. That would have been great.

There 10 spots based entirely on wins, an I think only 10 should get in that way, a tie for 10th sh

That could be fun but I have seen a lot of heat races with less than a handful of cars that sucked.
To me it is hard to simulate special scenarios. Just put 43 cars on a good track and hope the chemistry works. I think you need a full field, and the beauty is in racing 42 other cars, not just one.

The biggest problem I have with the chase is the contrived effort. The 92 points battle was the best imo, and the beauty was that Kulwicki had to overcome 4 or 5 heavy hitters. Even then Elliott won the last race to Kulwicki running second.
It didnt meet a perfect scenario of AK winning a finale.

All you can do is appreciate the chemistry, the once in a lifetime moments. It is like Art, were the imperfections isnt the issue. Likewise I think the 2011 was epic, I wouldnt change anything about it, in most cases it would be more harmful than helpful.
