What I'd like to see at Watkins Glen

:( Good Lord I'm gone for a couple weeks finaly make it back and it's the same ol crap
You expected otherwise? By the way welcome back, hope you are doing better. :D

I've never used the ignore feature before but started today after seeing that whining earlier.Ask a couple questions then people crying saying they were attacked because they didn't like my questions was enough for me.

I would invite you to Baltimore but you still have a pending Los Angeles travel package offer.

Been wanting to bump this up DP. A honeydo thang, eh.:D

Polished your crystal ball up huh?

Just my scientific technicals evaluations of a his current capabilities. Has he even won 5 chase events, let alone 5 in season. Making the chase is the limit

That was the first time Tony, or as far as I know anybody, did anything even close in the modern era. Of course somebody will probably post a link to prove me wrong which I kinda look forward to.

Johnson has won 4 a couple of times including 4 in a row in 2007.

Yeah but if I remember correctly never from a darkhorse position like Tony, JJ was always strong and continued through the chase.

Not to bust on Tony, but JJ winning the final 2 regular season races in '07 then 4 chase races in a row was far more impressive than Tony winning 2 fuel mileage races and another by divine intervention. He drove to just 2 wins all year.

Right on.

Personally, Stewart's run last year didn't exactly surprise me and I suspect the same for many others. I believe there to be 6 or 7 drivers who are capable of repeating this year what Stewart did in 2011.

This didnt start as a Tony JJ thing it was about whether JG could win it all this year. Who did it better Tony or JJ is a matter of perception to me and not important and after all JJ is Five Time and didnt just stumble into it.

You're correct in that Stewart didn't dominate in every one of those 5 wins but neither did Johnson in all 6 that you mentioned. I guess one difference is that one was expected and the other not so much.

At least nobody posted any links???:D

...and after all JJ is Five Time after all and didnt just stumble into it.
Correct. NASCAR made it happen, by changing the rules in the middle of the game (shocker!: to increase revenue). Gordon would have had two more Championships had NASCASH not changed the rules to make more money off of the the vanilla man.
YOIOD (your opinion is obviously distorted).

Then from my perspective, yes, #24 can win the cup this year by stumbling into the chase just as Stewart did. I've said it before and I'll say it again; Stewart and Gordon are the two best drivers in Nascar and have been since 2001 but YMMV.

Doesn't matter who people brought into it. The fact is, Tony didn't dominate on his way to 5 chase wins last year. I don't see it as something Jeff Gordon is incapable of talent wise.

The wife says JG could walk on water if he wants to and I say "yes dear". :D

Is someone going to start the bonehead thread and automatically give it to the driver who dumps Patrick ;)

Well it wasn't for a Championship but I enjoyed Harry's run some years back:

Before 1991, Gant was known throughout the NASCAR Winston Cup Series garage area as "Handsome Harry." In 1991, he earned the nickname, "Mr. September" for winning four consecutive NASCAR Winston Cup Series races that month (Darlington Raceway, Richmond International Raceway, Dover Downs and Martinsville Speedway), tying the modern era (1972-present) record. He also won two NASCAR Busch Series Grand National Division races during that time.

Back in the day, this was my driver. I chewed enough Skoal back then that I had a sticker on his fender. ;)

Excellent post Gant should have won five in a row. I went to the Wilksboro race that would have been number five and even as a Dale Sr fan (who got the W) I have to admit Harry was better that day. Gant led 350 of the 400 laps, I think a brake problem slowed him down near the end.

Somewhere in an unknown box I have a picture of Dale winning, and somebody's middle finger who was seated in front of me on that day. Loved the Hate, it made it sweeter.

Barney Hall told a story about Harry during the streak, hopefully I will get it right some 20 years later.

Harry wasn't just an old school driver, he was old school in life as well, and he hung sheet rock as hobby, while being a future hall of fame driver.

Harry's wife told him during the streak that they needed a bigger and better house. So Harry just remodeled the one they had. Maybe a missed point, but wrong or right to me that defined him. He was understated, never showed off, but few were better at getting things done.

Harry never got the full credit he deserved imo. He was a great driver, quite and modest, but still the same great

The hard brake line for the left front cracked right at the flare inside the fitting to to flex hose, no left front brake for the last third of the race. How you drive a racecar at North Wilksboro as fast as he did that day with No Left Front Brake I don't know. On a flat short track most everyone uses the lf brake to turn the car in on entry Harry Darn near Won without any LF brake.
Heck of a driver, Tuff as Nails and an all around Gentleman.

It was because of Harry and the Skoal Bandit that I tried Skoal for the first time (swallowed too much of the juice along with my beers - got sick as a dog - an never tried it again) :D

We drove up from Norfolk (back in my navy days) for the Richmond Busch race during his streak (which I think he also won).

My favorite one was the Martinsville Cup race though. If I remember right he got spun fairly late in the race and got some right fender damage. He went in and got tires, then raced through the field like stuff through a goose. He must have been annoyed cause he didn't give anybody a nicey-nice lap or two before he moved them either.
