First off, hello everyone! :D Add me to the long list of Jeff Gordon fans on here!

Anyway, I thought I would have my first post on here be an interesting thread (I'm too boring in person to be boring online as well). If you were to design and build your own race track, what would it be like? Would it be a 1.5 mile cookie cutter with no banking? Or perhaps a half-mile figure 8 dirt track? (Keep in mind this would be for NASCAR's 3 main series.)

My dream NASCAR track:

My ideal track would be a little over a mile in length. The track would be sort of like Darlington in shape, but a little more drastic. The larger turns would have 18-22 degree progressive banking for more passing in the higher grooves, and the smaller turns would have even 20 degree banking for short-track bump-and-run type racing. My ideal locations for the track would be somewhere close to either New Orleans, Denver, or Seattle.

Welcome to the forum ? (what do we call you ?) I love your track idea . Looks a bit like a small Pocono too. How did you do that ? Are you a graphic designer ?

Figure 8 with an overpass. Right and left hand turning. Plus you get the grandstand effect. Road racing and oval meet in the middle.

Welcome. Hook Bristol and martinsville end to end.

I've had an idea for years but I think the laws of physics dislike it.

I like the PAS track. It has an very unbalanced shape, which would make for some interesting CC choices for setup.

My ideal track would be a high banked half mile egg shaped track with the backstretch running up hill and the frontstretch down hill. That's just one idea anyway. Welcome to the Forum.

5/8 Mile track like Thompson in Conn., but with slightly less banking, progressive would be nice, 12,14,16 degrees.

My name is Dylan, but y'all can call me a "stranger" since I'm new. (I was kind of hoping someone would do that.)

I made the track a few months ago using a bunch of shapes and a "freeform" drawing tool on Powerpoint (I use it for more than just slideshows).

Welcome Stranger!

It would be about 5/8ths of a mile, something like more like Martinsville than Richmond I would try to design the pit road in a way that didn't take 3/4ths of the distance like Martinsville.
I would try to build a good tunnel to the infield, but park the haulers outside near the track perimeter, and make make hauling the war wagons very easy. Because I want the lower seating sections to have a unobstructed view. No seats would be sold that had limited viewing.

I would try Coliseum seats that look and wrap around like Bristol but they would be more spacious not so much to accommodate bigger folks but to make the day less tiresome and runs to the restroom and concession stands easier.

It would have the best handicapped section in the business, and no VIP suite would better or more plush than the handicapped section.

Old Darlington asphalt would be a must, the tires need to lose a second a lap in 50 lap run, I like ground pounders egg shape, I would try that too like a small Darlington , but not extreme. One end would be as flat as Martinsville and the other just slightly banked to make it technically a difficult track to drive.

Howdy stranger. Watch your step around here its like a barnyard if you get my drift.

I heard them talking about Pocono on the xm radio this week . The repaving job is great ..smooth as glass . Will make for faster speeds ,etc. . My question..will it make the racing better ? When you take away the bumps , dips , seams , rough pavement etc., I think that it just bunches up the field . Takes driver skill out of it and makes aero the big thing. If you went and raced at North Wilkesboro today , it would be a heck of a race because the pavement would be awful.

If you can talk dpKimmel and Andy into putting up the money to buy it , I'll go in on it with you.

My ideal racetrack has already been built and unfourtunately closed again last year.....North Wilkesboro Speedway.

I loved that track too, I am glad I was able to attend a few cup races there.

While it is not realistic I would like an occasional event at the famous or imfamous Nürburgring. Maybe once every four years, as endurance event for a minimum of 8 hours up to a 12 hour max all in the daytime hours.

It wouldnt be worth the logistiscs or cost every year. maybe as a one off non points event that included the Aussie/V8 cars . They could be scored as seperate classes, or maybe teams could be formed to run a cup car then a V8 car car for six hours each to be scored as a single entry.

I could see Robby or Tony doing a cup car for the 12@N. They'd have to detune the motors to last that long, but the rolex guys have that down pat.

I like the Nürburgring from playing Forza, which is a very detailed model of the track. It's a track that's very demanding suspension and handeling, and I doubt the cup cars would be any good for running there.

Hi, Stranger! Great post. Great question. Nice Track!

Figure 8 with an overpass. Right and left hand turning. Plus you get the grandstand effect. Road racing and oval meet in the middle.

This is quite intriguing!

I liked Riverside International Raceway

My personal all-time favorite! Sears Point comes close but it's no Riverside.

A V8 Supercar would absolutely KILL a CUP car on a road course, I think...
