We've seen this story play out before.. as recently as last season.......but whats up with the 48?

... the top 10 at Michigan this past week was his first since his win there earlier this season.

Call it testing, pre chase warm up, or whatever you may.. but something is wrong with whatever they're doing.

Will they flip the switch again this year when the chase starts?

At what point do they stop whatever they're doing and just throw the 24's setup in the car?

I can;t believe JJ is sandbagging this...seems a dangerous practice to do.

Same thing happened last year, albeit at different racetracks. This is a non-issue; it's not like the 48 hasn't been running well, it's been a bunch of freak incidents (crash at Daytona, crash at Loudon, crashes in Pocono, spin at Watkins Glen) that have compounded their problems.

who knows, they are in the chase, that is what is screwy with the win and you are in business. They might be screwing around, might not. Not qualifying well, blowing tires, broken shifter, are signs to me that they are in a slump.

The way that Jimmie and Chad's emotions have been playing out these past few races on the radio, I doubt that they're just experimenting with radically new setups. Chad gets genuinely pissed whenever **** happens to the car. He has the intention of coming to the track every week and winning.

I wouldn't put it past Chat to find a way to use the win and in rule to his advantage. But I think they just had some bad luck - that happens. Bad luck with the shifter and they still put together a good finish.

Judging by their impressive comeback at Michigan and their three wins that they've already earned this year, I'd say that nothing is wrong with the 48 team.

The fact that we have this conversation anytime Jimmie isn't dominating just shows how darn good he and his team are.

Yep.

"4 races outside the top ten, he's washed up I say!!" ;)

Good lord people, do you never learn from history? This team always has a rough stretch towards the end of summer, then hits it right when the chase starts. Come November well be talking about number 7. When this team is on, nobody else in the field has a chance

Newman said Jimmie lost his stones :)
I was more like, it is pretty bad when you are racing your tail off for a top ten and your car isn't even that good to finish that high, no way could it keep the lead if it started out front.

well call me foolish on main street then. I personally don't think any body in their right mind would screw up a race car to run like crap. If they did test something new, they would have notes to get it back right in practice, much less before qualifying. You think they are practicing for starting in the back of the pack? Disaster management practice? Closest I can come to any of this is that Chad might be trying to get Jimmy to run setups that he doesn't want to run and they are having a little tussle over who controls who. That has happened in the past with those two.

I think Chad and Jimmie are kinda like a old married couple. They have been together so long that they are tired of eachothers chit.

Oh crap! Jimmie's career is in the toilet ? And I picked him in Spike's pool this weekend . :( ...DAMN ...Anybody up for a trade ?

It would be foolish to ever think there's something wrong with the 48.

I'll predict it now, once Chicago gets here, he'll be in the top 5 in all the practice sessions, qualify in the top 5, and win the race. It never fails.

x2

I don't think Jimmie and Chad are worried but everyone else in the NASCAR garage should be concerned.

Wouldn't surprise me one bit if they were testing experimental stuff (such as high camber setups, lightweight shifters, etc) to try gain any kind of an advantage for the Chase.

I can't see were lightweight shifters would give you that much of a advantage.

After any bad performance by the 48 team I always hear "they are experimenting"
Why is it that the "experiments" never work ???
Is it possible that they were experimenting when they won those races :idunno:

I am going to guess that the light weight shifter wont be used in the chase races
