Where Would NASCAR Be Today?

Okay not they.. HE.. lol
There was a small amount before Andrew hit but the hurricane is what really did it. Thousands of exotic animals were released by the storm.

"Making matters worse, a private reptile-breeding facility near the Everglades was destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. This is the cause of the original influx of large quantities of pythons appearing in the wild. As such breeding businesses have to be licensed by the state, the question must be asked: Why would a state already well-endowed with native snake species permit such a risky enterprise in the first place? And how was it regulated if the apparent storm-related "spill" was possible? The state instituted some new ownership criteria last year, including annual $100 fees for possession and microchips to keep track of the snakes, but it is a case of too little, too late".

Good info and IDK why a state would allow this sort of thing given the chance of disaster. Breed them in Alaska as if the get out they won't last long.

It would have declined as most sports have in the last twenty years. It would still have their core fans of twenty years ago. It would have settled back into the niche sport it has always been. Everyone would be as happy about it as they were twenty years ago. (No, everybody was not completely happy with it then.) People that like the way it is now, would have liked the way it was then. Problem is that once a change is made, you can never go back. People that like it the way it is now, can't imagine what it was like before, so you can't really blame them for that. It seems that every change they make divides us even more. The Kentucky Derby hasn't changed in a hundred and thirty years, and I don't see where they have had such a dramatic decline as NASCAR. Attendance has declined some, like all sports have, but think what it would be like if they had to race Shetland Ponies, a quarter of a mile at a time. Sounds stupid doesn't it? But this is what NASCAR has effectively done to this sport. The Derby would probably attract more Shetland Pony fans than it has now, but at what cost. Some things have merit for doing things the way they have always done it. Once you change things, you cant go back. What's lost is, going to stay lost. If they keep making changes, they will continue to lose more.

I liked your analogy about the ponies and to try and make a long story short I think Nascar really missed the mark on the Chase, the CoT and putting severe restrictions on what teams could and could not do. They went headlong down a rabbit hole and ever since have taken stabs at trying to set things right but it just hasn't worked so far. I believe that your first loss is your best loss but unfortunately Nascar didn't see things that way and went hog wild with the changes.

Yeah I know all about it.. I've always loved reptiles and there are a tonne of documentaries about it.. not to mention Swamp People lol love that show.

I was more relating the situation to the current state of NASCAR. In that there's not really much to he done about it at this point. People will either watch or they won't. NASCAR can do what they will to try to fix it but .. just like trying to chip all those pythons.. it's just too little too late.

That's not my personal opinion.. personally there's not much about NASCAR I don't like.. even up to and including the occasional phantom debris caution lol... Love me a good late race restart! :D

I think your's is a fair post especially about trying to chip pythons as at this point what difference does it make if a couple of hundred get liberated. For the most part I agree with the "either watch or won't comment" as I don't see my viewing habits changing but at some point Nascar has to stop giving away 200-600K viewers away for non marquis type races. JMO of course.
