Looking back on it, I know my life has been blessed.
I started following racing in 1970 and Richard Petty was my favorite.
Thank God, he had already finished driving Fords in late 1969, otherwise my young nine year old formative mind might have been perverted.
Obviously the Lord was looking out for me.
If Petty had stayed with Ford, I wouldn't been able to enjoy so many title runs, it would have been more like a trail of tears instead.
Then it got even better when he switched to Chevy.
Later on, I was able to enjoy seeing Earnhardt win his seven in a Chevy.
I do pity Ford fans, but for the grace of God there go I.
A few Ford people are nice folks in spite of so many many losses, so many, many bitter crushing moments for them. I have to respect their class in spite of a fate that is utterly devastatingly doomed, cursed, and damned. So much respect for the few that can live through it all without crying and showing bitterness that must fill their core, and what little soul that remains. I don't know how they do it.
Had Petty stayed with Ford I would have been destined not to enjoy winning with the same capacity, and been more given to crying like Ford people do with such great repetition and regularity.
Thank God for Chevrolet.
