For the sake of argument... this sport has and always will have the mentality of "What have you done for me lately?" With the defending champ having a not so defending champ-esque season.. and his new team mate having a career season.. makes you wonder if there might be a new pecking order at Penske racing. Their whole thing has always been that they are equal and work together with the same everything.. If this is true.. with Joey Logano flat-out out performing him at every turn.. has he become the #1 at Penske?

Let's look at this season's stats.. bold is the better stat.

Brad Keselowski

30 starts
8319 of 8618 laps completed (96.5%),
399 laps led

Win: 0 ( 0.0%)
Average start: 12.0
Top 5: 7 ( 23.3%)
Average finish: 16.0 (excluding bonuses)
Top 10: 12 ( 40.0%)
Not in the chase.
DNF: 2

Joey Logano

30 starts
8160 of 8618 laps completed (94.7%),
282 laps led
Win: 1 ( 3.3%)
Average start: 12.6
Top 5: 10 ( 33.3%)
Average finish: 14.7 (excluding bonuses)
Top 10: 16 ( 53.3%)

In the Chase
DNF: 3

So... this was started thanks to an idea from a friend lol... "Have at it boys!"

Head to head.

I agree the championship heavily sways it in BK's favour... it's more about.. is Joey becoming the #1 at Penske? BK cant hold on to that title forever, he still needs to perform... like I said, "what have you done for me lately?" I ive it to him because he's the defending champ... but if these stats look similar next year in comparing the 2... I'd have to say it's headed toward that 22 car being the #1... but like I said.. they're both "equal" etc etc at the shop... but we all know performance is key. I hope Brad comes out next year and is able to put up numbers like Joey has.. I'd like to see those two racing for a win together.. I wonder how that would go.

Yes, in a head to head matchup since they started racing against each other.
That's awesome... didn't know you could find that stuff... seriously tho, what are the odds of me making this thread when theyre tied? One more week and that tie changes... that's like eerily coincidental... I bet Joey takes the lead this weekend ;)

Im only looking at this year... cant ask whos #1 at Penske and include Joey stats from Gibbs...
You can always limit the window to support your argument. I am simply looking at the career of these two. That's all part of who they are. If you're only looking at their time with JGR then I think it would have to be looked at as the career with JGR.

Yeah absolutely... I understand that and you have to take the whole career into consideration.. but like I said this sport is all about what have you done lately... I know Brad clearly has the better resume.. 3x the wins and a title... but I do see signs that Joey could continue to out perform him.. that more what Im thinking.. I know hes not the #1 right now.. but I bet that there's becoming an increasing amount of faith in Joey in that shop.

I still find it crazy that Joey is only behind KyBu and JJ for top 5's this year, them and Jr for top 10's... and tied with KyBu for most top 5's on a 1.5... he's finished top 5 1/3 of the season... that's pretty impressive given his lack of performance in years prior. Those are the kinds of numbers that win championships... it's the 3 dnf's, points penalties and multiple mechanical failures however that lose them.

Nvm guess I can only change it once? lol K well I'll let you guys have at it.. I probably just should have named it who's got the worst Joey insult lol.. Just a matter of time.

A real tough question. Is it possible that Brad has tried too hard to be the number 1 driver this year and failed ????

It's pretty normal for a champ to have an ehh year after winning the previous one. JJ & the chase spoiled that stat but historically it's not uncommon. Tip of the week for ya NASCAR noob

JJ and the chase spoiled that stat? Wow dude get into this century already.. its not that normal of a stat if it hasn't happened in 10 years lol

Dafuq are you talking about? Re-read kid. It's isn't uncommon for a champion to have a down year after winning the previous year. JJ won 5 in a row. Yes, he spoiled that stat. Look at it now - Tony Stewart, Brad K. Same problem of having a blah year after being a champion. Since when is a decade a century? You talk about everyone else rattling your cage & being argumentative but you start the **** half the time, then can't take the heat. You & Joey do have that in common

Welcome to the 2000's? Is that better?... Tony did alright the following year.. 3 wins and made the chase... and Brad is the one were talking about lol.. Also.. who you callin kid? LOL I may not have watched NASCAR 10 years ago but that don't mean Im 10 years old.

Regardless... when is the last time a defending champ went winless into the chase? I really am asking I don't feel like figuring it out lol

Kurt Busch didn't do so hot in '05 after winning the championship in '04 either.

That doesn't change the fact that Joeys doing better than Brad... What? Your guys' excuse for Brad is that he won the championship last year? LMAO I don't see how that's a good reason..

"Brad's not doing so great"

"Well that's because he won the championship last year."

............ "Ooooooooooh" o_O

If you have to say a driver had an "alright" year, you're just reinstating that he had a "average" or "eh" year. Nothing special and nothing boring.

Count the number of rings and wins. Brad is 5x the driver Joey is. Period.
Next you'll be saying Joey is better than Richard Petty because he's retired, better than Dale Earnhardt because he's dead, and better than Jeff Gordon because he has one more win than him this year.

Replace Jimmie with Brad and Elliot with Joey. Exact same situation.

Logano aint done sh!t to replace BK as Top Dog at Penske. I have no interest in arguing stats cause they'll get twisted and distorted to suit the pro Logano side but until he puts up some real results, he's 2nd fiddle. A couple of lucky wins and fluke chase appearance does not #1 make.

LMFAO That's a hilarious commercial... Also... Brad is not 5x what Joey is... 3x maybe.. bc he has 3x the wins... and add another for the title... so maaaybe 4x... last year. The rest of their stats are not far off from each other...

It does for this season. Anythign else aside... look at their finishes in the standings at the end.. tell me whos at the top... also... its not a "fluke chase appearance" it was a "fluke" that he wasn't well inside the top 10 all season.
