Since they've never been there before Nationwide gets 8.5 hours of practice Thursday (5.5) and Friday (3). Get all of the NNS practice in on Thursday and then practice/qualify Cup on Friday.

so ...everybody....gets thurs practice. sounded like childress exception in article. ha!

Just read that Austin will miss NNS qualifying Saturday morning for a Cup practice so he'll start from the rear of the field at Mid-Ohio. Big opportunity for the other drivers in the championship battle.

dang he gets the rear both races. It is getting more clear to me anyway, that he is going to be in cup next year to be throwing away the lead like that. He can't road race worth a darn in the first place, and starting in the back? forget about it.

I won't be surprised if he doesn't make it 5 laps starting in the back like that. It is going to be crash city at mid ohio for a while. That thing is narrow and fast.

He has a three point lead over Sam who I would be shocked if he doesnt get a top 3 finish.

In one way, I dont blame Austin, he doesnt need a nationwide title and he'll make more money but at the same time, it makes the nationwide series a bigger joke.

Do you think that any driver in N'wide that was offered the 14 to run in cup would turn it down? It isn't a joke, it is a step up the ladder for some and a step down for others. If they have a brain in their head, N'wide is better than anything out there, but cup. You are in line for a cup ride for the most part.

Ambrose is on the entry list. he has to qualify on time. hmm
Ambrose and Dinger the ringers, Fellows, but he won't be up front probably. Piquet if he pulls his head out of it could do really well. They will give Sam and Smith a good run I bet.

yes I get that but being a champion of the series should mean something and it doesnt.

It only means something if it gets you a cup ride , and there are no guarantees that it will. An opportunity like this is a bigger deal because it is a cup ride. Do well and it removes all doubt.

What do ya mean it doesn't mean something? you walk up to somebody on the street and tell them you are the nationwide Nascar champion and they will say, "you mean you beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Danica Patrick"?

maybe pop-pop...n crew figure they can't qual. up front (they tested already) .....so they'll do plate race strategy....ride in back...let field wreck each other out.....an wait til last 1/3 ta make move ta front .
get good points finish.......then off ta ovals. ?

plus.....austin's smart kid....maybe he can pick up a few hms/shr tricks runnin # 14 ? help out rcr in chase .

Tony Stewart to miss at least a month due to broken leg.

BROOKLYN, Mich. – Tony Stewart will be out for at least a month and possibly longer while he heals from a broken leg, Stewart-Haas Racing competition director Greg Zipadelli said Friday.

Zipadelli, who said he visited Stewart on Wednesday and Thursday, told reporters at Michigan International Speedway the team would use two drivers until Stewart returns – one of which is Austin Dillon, who will drive the No. 14 car this weekend.

"We all know who drives it on a regular basis and he's one of my heroes," Dillon said.

Zipadelli said SHR will have its driver lineup ironed out by Bristol. Dillon will drive at least one more race after Michigan, but the other driver has not been named.

I get what you are saying for any NNS driver, but Dillion. Austin's future is all but laid out for him already. I don't think he needs the 14 ride to prove his worth. I am surprised Richard didn't put a stop to this, or limit this deal. A NNS championship is more important to RCR than the success of the cup 14 car.

The question is -- who is the second driver to fill in for Tony? I will say Regan Smith.

A deal is in the works that would offer Brian Vickers more seat time in the No. 55 Aaron's Toyota — and allow Mark Martin to pursue the opportunity to drive the No. 14 for the injured Tony Stewart.

On Saturday, multiple sources told Fox Sports that Toyota offered Martin its blessing in order to enable Vickers — who was named the full-time driver of the No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing Camry on Tuesday — additional races to gel with the team. Vickers is currently racing for the Nationwide Series championship with Joe Gibbs Racing. He is fifth in the NNS point standings.

I honestly think it was stupid to take the NNS points leader, take his practice and qualifying away and send him to a track to defend his lead with absolutely no prior driving experience on the track. I'm not sure that was the reason he finished 21st... but I just dont see the logic behind that. Other than ppl just not caring, but I'll bet his CC and team in Ohio weren't too happy about it.

I didn't like it myself but he would have had a top 10 finish if he stayed out of wrecks.

He made one big mistake. He beat himself. He lost his temper and after he was dumped coming up thru the field..again. He had to do it twice. He tried to boot Klingerman late in the race and he spun out doing it. But today he is in a Stewart car. I bet he has learned quite a bit about how a different team goes about preparing a race car in cup. valuable info.

It's about the big picture . He's auditioning for a cup ride in front of the big cup sponsors . He's showing them that he's not just a Childress grandson , but he can race with the cup guys . Mission accomplished.

Richard probably paid for that ride. Only remotely way I can see that deal coming together, considering it was a bad idea for all parties involved.
