Interesting thread ,in fact after being a long time lurker it inspired me to join .

Starting with the question in the original post and the possibiltiy of said female drivers to win in NASCAR .

Alli Owens i have watched race off and on since she started out at Volusia County and New Smyrna . I have to wonder why anyone would think a driver that was never able to win a single feature race in a street stock , mini stock or limited late model would be able to win in NASCAR ?

Megan Reitenour is young and as far as i know has never competed in anything above lawn mower engine powered vehicles . I do know she is planning on running ARCA trucks this season where i will see her run . Until Megan runs a season in a full sized car i dont see how anyone can make the leap from Briggs and Stratton to Bristol .

Chrissy Wallace has run several divisions including Bandolero , Legends and a single season of limited late models at Hickory . I did notice that when she was moved up from novice to semi pro to pro in the Legends she was unable to win in the legends top division . Chrissy was able to score two wins in the limited late models at Hickory but when you have NASCAR Cup engine builders putting together your stuff and Cup drivers doing your set ups i would hope you could win a couple of times at a Saturday night show in a limited late model class . I do question her fathers judgement in moving Chrissy into the CTS after a single season at Hickory since they have the resources to run her in the USAR , NASCAR East or some lower level touring series . Moving these young drivers male or female up too fast almost always leads to failure .

I see no female driver in the forseeable future that is capable of winning in NASCAR even if she was given the best of equiptment .

I would definetly agree:beerbang:

I disagree with you about Megan Reitenour and the lawn mower statement. Until you've been to an actual lawn mower race at Fredrick Fairgrounds Raceway, you ain't seen lawn mower engines race.

Briggs and Stratton???

When did Briggs and Stratton start building V-8 USAR Pro Cup engines?? I recently read where Megan won the first Super Cup Race she entered. Those are really big cars for a Briggs and Stratton engines. Hmmm:huh:

super cup stock car series

I have been following Megan Reitenour's career and she has not only raced Briggs and Stratton engines but she has also raced Legends, ARCA Trucks, Super Late Models and to say the least she has been very sucessful. On March 8 she won the inaugural Super Cup Stock Car Series Event at Tri County Speedway, coming from the back of the field to take the lead on lap 97 of the 100 lap event. For those of you that do not know about the Super Cup Stock Car Series, these cars are the former Hooter's Pro Cup race cars. 3300 lbs and over 600 hp. I would say not to bad for a 16 year old racing against some veteran drivers some of which were more than three times her age.

There are sucessful female drivers and with the right opportunities any one of which are capable of competing and winning at the Sprint Cup level.

I haven't really gotten the chance to see Retineour race - though Ohio isn't that far away.

I really think Chrissy Wallace is the real deal. Say what you want - 18th place and on the lead lap in a truck in their first career race at Martinsville is impressive for anyone, male or female, young or old.

Yes, I agree, she's going to have to back that run up. But, it sounds like Germain Racing and Geico are fully committed to her. Like I said, I think Chrissy will make it to Sprint Cup and score many victories. She's 19 now - she can only get more talented and more experienced at this point.

Alli Owens showed great car control at Daytona. And, let's be fair for a second, I don't think anybod was expecting her to win or have a top 10 in her first career race at Daytona. That's a long shot for anyone. Restrictor Plate racing is a whole different ballgame, and that's the worst place to stick a rookie driver and have them make their first career start. She did more than what was expected of her there - brought the car home in one piece.

There are a few others I'd be keepin' my eyes on. One of my close friends is a crew member for development driver Lindsey King out at Irwindale. He also works closely with Brian Ickler, who does have a future in Nationwide and Cup.

Unfortanently, no breakout talent out here in Maryland, as much as I'd love to see NASCAR come to Hagerstown Speedway or Potomac Speedway. Now, THAT would be a show! :D

I stand corrected . I am only familiar with Miss Reitenour from a press release she put out a couple of months ago that said she would be joining the ARCA Truck Series this year , a series i follow . At the time it said she had never run a full sized car .

I did do a little checking on what this new Super Cup Series was and a little about their first event . The series is for older USAR cars with a spec engine , We have a series that is similar here . It would seem they had 14 cars show up for their first event and only 13 were able to take the green for the start of their 100 lapper and 9 cars finished the race .

I hope Megan still plans to join the ARCA Trucks it is a very competitive series with full fields and a far better series to gauge her talent .

Wow, I see the Megan Reitenour fans found this thread. Welcome aboard Megan fans.

I voted for Chrissy, and I said Chrissy would be the first. I disagree with what I originally said. I think Alli Owens is a much better, smarter, and more patient driver.;)

Hopefully a few good Truck Series or Nationwide owners are looking at her.

Also, keep an eye on Lindsey King racing over in Southern California. My friend works on her team, and he says she's been consistent top-5 all season long.

Women, win in NASCAR? not in this millenium. Duane has spoken!!:D

Alli will win in NASCAR. In this millennium. Andy has spoken!!:D

Allow me to qualify, Nationwide or Cup. Its possible for a gal to win in the lessor series, its already happened. And come on Ang, nobody listens to you!! LOL Duane:D

Mudslinger disagrees with me. Now I KNOW Alli will in in NWS/TS/NSCS. LOL Andy:D

Winning is one thing..

Winning can be done on a RAIN stop or fuel milage or perhaps other nonconventional ways...
But as for OUTRUNNING all the other nascar racers? She hasn't been born yet!! Much less do we know who she is..
Betsy:rolleyes:

"I will never say that women can't compete against men in racing because one woman, Shirley Muldowny took on the best and beat them heads up."

Angelle Seeling,Ashley Force, Melanie Troxel, and Hillary Will would like to add their names to your list.

Good point.
it is not to "bright' to say that a woman will never win. We had a woman driver in a major road racing series drive for us and she had the talent to compete against the best. All she needed was sponsorship and a little more experience racing against the top drivers.

No doubt that women have the ability, but as muggle noted, they just need to get the sponsorship, but not only that, they need to find someone who will actually give them a chance. In saying that, I do believe there is blatant sexual discrimination here, more so than in any other racing series. Why is that? Not quite sure, but I think that if it could be broken, such as when Muldowny did in the NHRA, things might change. To achieve that end means that one of the top tiered teams (Hendrick, Roush, Gibbs) will have to give a ride to a female and give her everything that would be given an up and comer like Joey Lagano. Driving for a lower tiered team won't do it and it will only push forth the idea that women can win in this series.

Don't forget Laurie Cannister.;)

Chrissy and Alli have the sponsorship. Chrissy's driving for a good truck team. Problem she's gonna run into is that there are going to be drivers who don't think women belong on a racetrack that are going to wreck her. Remember Shawna Robinson? Listen to all the remarks the IndyCar drivers made after Danica's win. Take last night; I've never known Jack Sprague to be so impatient that early in a race like he was in the Truck race, but I haven't heard his side of the story and never saw the videotape so it's hard to comment on that.
