Great question on Sirius NASCAR Radio's TMD this morning.....

With Carl Edwards move to JGR next year, who do you see as the #1 driver of that organization?

How about this year? Who do you think the #1 drivers are of their respective organizations?

That JGR is a tough one to answer IMO.

Thinking back a short time ago, remember all of the talk of how SHR would have a tough time dealing with all of those strong personalities in their driver lineup? None of that has come about. I'm thinking that there may be more of a conflict coming up in the new superteam of JGR. Who gets the 'best stuff' there? This could get interesting. I can't come up with the face of that organization.

I think it's Hamlin for JGR. I know a lot will disagree. 24 wins in 8 years, made the chase every year except last and should of won the 2011 championship. Still only 33.

Carl comes out swinging like Matt did...

This year

HMS - Jeff
JGR - Matt
Penske - Pretty even
MWR - Bowyer
RCR- Menard
RFR -Carl
SHR -Harvick
Ganassi-Larson

Kyle Busch has had 25 wins for JGR in less than 7 years and he's only 29. Also I believe you meant 2010, Carl Edwards should have won the 2011 championship.

Hamlin will be lower than he put Joey on that totem pole lol he's probably crying into his pillow clinging to that Dega win waking up from his sleep yelling "Not Carl!"

Wow holy cow time flies that was 2010 when denny was pouting and crying after Phoenix

Yep, time sure does fly. I actually remember him putting it in the grass at Homestead like 20 or 30 laps in. I remember thinking "well Denny, you blew it". I think that was the same year he tore up his knee playing ball, and then went on a crazy win streak through the summer. Personally I believe that was as close as he will ever get to the championship, that was his chance and he couldn't cash in.

I have to wonder which Penske driver believes he is number 1 and which one really is ?
No doubt that Brad was the number 1 at the start of the season and his championship should mean that he will be at the end of the season.................. UNLESS

If u consider his championship of course he's #1... But looking at only this year... Or even including the entire time Joeys been with Penske Id call it a coin toss.... I think part of it is that they really don't look at it as who is #1 and #2.. But that they are both Team Penske.. They're going pretty much stride for stride this year .. if only they could both perform at the same time lol....... this will seem biased... But Joey has a better average running position... I've said it again and again but without some mechanical issues or wrecks Joey has really only run outside the top 10 in like one race this season. I think when it really comes down to it Joey is out performing Brad... But results r everything so its hard to judge.

I don't think there is a pecking order.

In F1 there is usually a primary and secondary driver and they sometimes have the secondary driver back off so the primary driver gets a better finish. That doesn't happen in NASCAR (unless it's Richmond).

Interesting stuff.

Just thinking a drivers ego has to be silly to outsiders. But it is an essential part of sucess, always believing you are better is a must.
And the team should be bent that way too, the only exception being developmental transition. Even then it needs to be my driving is putting the building blocks together to be the best.
A driver deserves and should accept no less from his team.

A self respecting driver should feign modesty well to disquise the inflated ego. But inwardly be pissed off at the suggestion that they are not number one in the minds of their organization.
