Why do they always drive to the left?

Man, once in a while, some critical thinker comes around with a question that doesnt need to be answered at all.

For example, in cartoons, why do the animals when they sit at the dinner table eat meat?

Yeah, but when I see a cow eat meat at a dinner table in a cartoon, and that cows are obviously slaughtered for meat.... I mean, what the hell is that?

That's easy Happy.......it's cannibalism!!

And on the turning left instead of right. I'm just offering an observation of mine. I'm right handed (as is most of the world) and when I'm trying to park in a parking lot (think Wal Mart :) ) I find it easier to find a parking space to my left instead of to my right..........it's just easier to maneuver into the space. I've noticed that most people do what I do. So maybe it's just a little more natural to turn to the left for most people.

This ain't no scientific study now!! :D

We have so many ideas whey they turn left. One of them has got to be it.

It's because the man who owned the land didn't want his minnow pond disrupted...no wait that's why Darlington is shaped like it is...

Yeah I really would like to know.

Looks like the whole "only turn left" controversy just needs some updating. Why not turn right for a whole race? B)
Actually, I did give you the reason as explained in the history of auto racing, and someone else gave you a very similar answer as explained at Indy.

"I have heard the reasoniong before, and it happened long before cars started racing.
The Brits raced their horses going right so America went left. Stock cars usually started racing on horse tracks, so they just followed suite and turned left too."

Pretty lame reason....just so america can be different....bah

Well, if you really want to know the answer to the question, why don't you make an inquiry with Nascar, IRL, CART, etc.... If you don't want to "accept" the answers you are given by those who posted "legitimate" answers, then I don't know what to tell you.

Nascar says they race this way, so the do. Enough said.

Yeah, turned out to be the best race track on the planet because of that minnow pond.

(excuse the 'caps'...it's that way at the link below...)

Q: WHY IS IT THAT ON ON RACETRACKS ALMOST ALL RACES GO IN A COUNTERCLOCKWISE DIRECTION?

A: THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION AND IT HAS SEVERAL ANSWERS. THE U.S.A TRACK AND FIELD ORGANIZATION TELLS US THAT IN 1912 THE INTERNATIONAL GOVERNING BODY OF TRACK AND FIELD MADE AN ARBITRARY DECISION THAT RUNNERS WOULD RUN COUNTERCLOCKWISE AND IT'S BEEN THAT WAY EVER SINCE.

NASCAR TELLS US AUTO RACETRACKS WERE SET UP COUNTERCLOCKWISE IN THE TRADITION OF HORSE RACING, AND THE THOROUGHBRED RACING ASSOCIATION SAYS AMERICAN RACETRACKS WERE FIRST SET COUNTERCLOCKWISE IN 1780 BECAUSE AMERICAN BREEDERS WERE STILL ANGRY AT THE BRITISH, WHOSE HORSE RACING TRACKS RAN CLOCKWISE.

Hey 5 car, how ya doing? Miss ya at the Igloo B)

Good answer, glad you came up with a link to that.

Hey, Eagle1.....yeah, I don't get around as often as I should, I guess....

The link above goes to the NBC affiliate in Washington DC...

Liz Crenshaw answers all kinds of goofy questions that
viewers have...this just happened to be one of them...
I enjoy her reports all the time on TV...

I'll mosey on over to the Igloo now and drop a 'hello'...
