Why is it

Amazon Prime has a lot of free programming to watch but i don't have a smart TV which I can stream with.
Instead I bought a Google chromecast dongle (about $40) which you plug into a HDMI port on your TV and set up an channel through your wi-fi.
Then using google chrome on your computer download google cast extension.
So I watch a video on Amazon Prime on my PC then I cast it to my TV and voila it magically appears on my TV.
And its just like watching TV...amazing!
Amazon Prime is $80/year which I got for free shipping of Amazon products in the US and it includes the movies and more...40,000 free titles.
Youtube also is programmed to cast to your TV as well and with Nascar streaming more races on Youtube I may soon be able to quit my $100 buck a month dish subscription.

Oh, I forgot if the Mrs want to watch a video on Amazon and I cast it to the TV I can still use the computer as the dongle takes it straight from the internet apparently? Anyhow its a very cool product in MO
OMG.. that sounds far too complicated for me to ever figure out.

LOL.. they're not HD. Chris just got home and showed me how I can tell. It says "HD" in the listing. So anyway, on Comcast/Xfinity.. they are located near where all our HD channels are... but they aren't HD. Shows how much I know.

LOLOLOLOL If I'm not sure or when an HD channel doesn't look like HD, I have a button on my TV remote that gives me the pixtel count. 1080 if HD, 480 if SD.

We have that here in S. Cal. They're on sub channels like 5.2 and 5.3. I pick them up on the TV in my bedroom with the rabbit ears :D

Going to get one of those thingys. Got to be good for something when the cable goes out.

I can stream it through my phone also to my TV not sure how that helps me except if I came to your house and you had Chromecast I could access your wifi and stream from my phone to your TV. It doesn't actually stream from my phone it rather uses my phone to get direction of what to stream from the net over wifi.
Unfortunately not everything is supported yet but more sites coming to chromecast all the time.

Sounds easy right?!! :D

I'm sure it is once you have it set up. :p

hahaha I can't afford you. So, the 40,000 free movies, any good titles, like in the last year or so?
I've only really just started looking. Old and fairly new. I bought Amazon Prime for the free delivery as I buy a fair bit online at Amazon and get it sent to my cousin's in Escondido, CA. as I'm usually up there a couple of times a year. The movies and TV shows were a bonus that I'm just now starting to appreciate through chromecast.
Amazon wants to make money from it so brand new stuff will prolly cost you. My Mrs loves Sons of Anarchy and she can watch all seasons episodes on Prime for free except this years season 7 which are $2 I see. But heaps of TV and Movies to keep you entertained. Go to Amazon and check out what Prime offers.

I'm not trying to sell it but it's a nice extra for me.

I ask because I'm not much of a movie fan unless something gets talked about so much that I'm curious to see it. Then I buy the DVD. I don't even subscribe to the movie channels because I've had them before and there wasn't anything there I was interested in. And they showed the same titles for - ever. But I will check it out.

I'm interested in that, to be able to go back and see some of the seasons I've missed.

It works amazingly well. You'd swear you were watching cable
Someone won one of those today in our Secret Santa gift exchange at work. It was a popular item.. folks kept stealing it from each other. I got a basket of fruit. LOL

I have a stack of DVDs. My kids get me movies for birthdays and Christmas and eventually I get around to watching them.

I have so many TV shows I like from 8pm to 10pm there's not a lot of time for movies. Even then I have to record them because I fall asleep a lot during the 10pm shows.

I just don't watch that much tv .. I don't even know what's on. My husband has his shows, and so do my sons, but they're all too violent for me.
