The "good old days" ??
On a late restart they will. There, I said it.
I'm sure every CC noticed the speed Kyle Busch had on that last restart, and his car was bent up. He got a great restart and made his way up to Tony, who had lost his partner. Kyle got right to him, and was able to push Tony right through the corner. With the smaller spoiler, the new tires and extra grip surely helped quit a bit.
If the 500 field gets thinned out (highly likely) and there is a late flag (very probable), I expect to see a few tandems from 8th back come in for 4 tires. 2 laps is plenty of time to get to the front if you have the stability to push through the turns. Having pit stalls close to each other may be part of this strategy if a whole bunch come in. The guys at the front could be sitting ducks.
