Wins should hold more weight

So you seriously think its fine that the second place finisher can get the same amount is the winner???

50 might be a little harsh but how about 10. It might not change the outcome much but its rediculous that first and second can get the same amount of points. Dont see how people dont have a problem with this.
The second place driver leads the most laps, was the dominant driver & gets 'roughed' up on the last lap & put into the wall (made famous by the #3 driver) & ends up with a lot less points than the winner? Um, yes I agree with him getting the same amount of points. Pesonally, I think leading the most laps should weigh more into the championship, but I am not 'Nascar' with selective inforcement of the rules.

oh boy here we go, I think the reason is because matt had such a lead there really was'nt going to be a fight for the championship, so your earnhardt legacy theory is just about as thin as nascar giving DEI special advantages.
Huh???? Were did I say anything about the 'special' DEI advantages? Until my last post in reply to Smack500 of course.

I did make a point about how I think the media sucks up to the Earnhardt name & the driver that replaced him & IMO more so than they sucked up to Jeff Gordon. At least Jeff EARNED that right to be sucked up to by winning over 60 some races & 4 championships...Dale Jr. & Happy sure haven't earned that IMO!

So I pretty sure if jr. or anybody for that matter had a lead like matt's you would still be gettin people wantin to change the points system.
I doubt it...unless it was Todd Bodine or Larry Foyt leading the points the same way Matt has gone about it.

Matt had some good points about the points system on Wind Tunnel tonight...I'm setting my VCR to tape the re-broadcast at 3 AM Eastern Thursday morning.

In my opinion i think there should be more points awarded to the winner, and more to the driver who led the most laps. also instead of 5 pts to every driver who lead a lap, how about 1 pt for every lap led. and i think there should be bonus points for the top 5 or 10 pole setters.

but you cannot complain about kenseth winning the championship this year, because even though newman has won 8 times and kenseth only once, that just shows that when newman isnt winning, he is finishing way below kenseth.

drivers are awarded with cash and a trophy for winning the race. the championship is the award to the drive that can finish the best most consistantly. if a driver goes out and wins 10 races and finishes dead last in 20+, does he desirve the championship over a driver with no wins but 30 top 5 finishes? I personally dont think so.

it is up to the team to decide if they feel putting everything on the line and winning the race is more important that driving conservatively and finishing in a position that will help them keep their championship hopes alive. some teams might want the win and some might want the championship. and it is best if you can do both. but that doesnt always happen.

it almost sounds to me like a lot of you would just like the championship based solely on the number of wins.

i would like to see the winners and lap leaders and pole setters get rewarded more, but consistant driving should still be a priority for the championship

just my two cents

Ryan Newman has 9 finishes outside the top-15.
Matt Kenseth has 4.

Ryan Newman has 6 finishes of 38th or worse.
Matt Kenseth has none.

Ryan's average finish is 13.3.
Matt's is 9.5

I see no reason why Matt shouldn't be ahead of Ryan in the points. To use an analogy, the 36-race season can be considered a war of sorts, and almost every general will tell you that a war isn't always about how many individual battles you win.
