WNBA 2025

This is painful to watch. Indiana's shots aren't going in at all. And they're not even trying to get offensive rebounds like Connecticut is.

Indiana once again showing they're not contenders.

Horrendous shooting to close both quarters. Every time Connecticuit misses, they get two more shots because they play through it. Every time Indiana misses, they just give up.

Tina Charles is the best player in this game tonight and it's not even close. She's better than everyone else in the court combined.

Connecticut will win by double digits and deserves to.

Absolutely terrible playing still by the Fever.

HUGE score by Sophie right before the half.

Just more BS. They did NOT have enough to overturn that call.

And the ref said something sideways to Caitlin because she was ready to fight.

Cathy needs to fix this ****.

"Tina is surprised she got called for the foul."

I'm sure she is given what she's gotten away with.
Indiana has shot 21 free throws to Connecticut’s 8. There are a lot of nights to complain about officiating; tonight isn’t one of them.

Caitlin needs to stop chucking threes.

1-31 on the road. This is just painful to watch.
Biggest issue facing the team right there. The ceiling on this team’s potential is much lower if she isn’t a shooting threat. She turns the ball over way too much still too.

I think this is why she’s not shooting well. She’s still injured.
Brought her back too early. I said earlier in the thread I’d hold her out until the ASG. This is her fourth game back and she hasn’t shot well in any of them. Now her injury has flared up again. No idea what you do now. And of course they have a back-to-back with New York tomorrow.

She did get a 3 but not good. She needed to sit until after the ASG.

From what I’m reading about this injury; Caitlin is probably done for the year.

Absolutely sucks.

That said, I couldn’t be happier for what this means for the league. A ratings collapse right before CBA negotiations might be exactly what’s needed for everyone to wake up.

I posted my extended thoughts in the Flashpoint thread in fight club but I will leave this here:

I agree wholeheartedly with this too.

This league failed to meet the moment.

If CC is done for the year and ratings collapse, the WNBA is well within its rights not to negotiate in good faith.

Really nice win for Chicago against Minnesota the other day. They had to sweat it out all the way to the end and definitely earned it. Ariel Atkins, who I enjoyed watching in Washington, was lighting it up.

Reese and Cardoso are both blossoming and evolving nicely as players and had great games. For Reese, Chaos Barbie, the Black Hole in the Paint, was nowhere to be found. Of course the energy, hustle, and glass cleaning I've always liked from her were all there, but offensively, she was putting it on the floor, slashing and dishing. I love a good slasher, so that was nice to see. That middy was pretty nice, too.

Cardoso was good on both ends and had some nice high-low action going with Reese. I dug Cardoso's whole vibe. She just looked so calm, laid-back, and happy, even when she was making big plays. Those two complement each other well. They're like fire and ice. I love it.

I'll have to watch Minnesota avenge that loss next.

Do WNBA players think Caitlin Clark will be the league’s face in five years? - The Athletic

Do WNBA players think Caitlin Clark will be the league’s face in five years?

There is not one defining feature that makes up the face of a sport. A player’s success on the floor is important, but so is her social omnipresence, her brand prominence and her desire to be a voice on topics that not only involve her but her peers. The WNBA’s face of the league does not have to be its best player, or even its most decorated. The WNBA currently has stars from various generations competing. A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier highlight a group that entered the league in the mid- to late-2010s, while Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers are among a recent crop of stars.

So who do WNBA players think will be the face of the league in five years? And what do they think about a host of issues facing the league, including expansion, salaries and collective bargaining negotiations? On Monday, players weighed in on who is the league’s best player and the best trash-talker.

Read on to see who they voted for.

Debbie Antonelli pointed out the other day that CC actually leads Indiana in steals right now, so I think every day is a bad day for that narrative. She might not be an elite lockdown guard, but that's not her job, and she's perfectly capable of getting stops. I've watched her do it and have been impressed.
Steals =/= out right defense.

Caitlin I will say she has a knack to play the passing lanes and anticipates well at times. However, on-ball one on one and off-ball especially on switching she has a longggggggg way to go.

I think once she gets stronger and continues to evolve that she'll improve, but she's a bit lost at times on defense still.

A'ja is the current face of the WNBA and she's only 27-28 years old. She has a lot of time left to be the face of the league.

JuJu Watkins is scary man, if her game translates to the WNBA... Whew, she's going to be a two-way nightmare. Her isolation game is insane, kinda like watching a mix of Joe Johnson and a young Carmelo. She has IT.

This is precisely what I was getting at in my second sentence. Like I said, no she's not an elite lockdown (one on one, stay in front of your opponent and stop them from scoring) defender. That being said, there are plenty of different aspects to defense. Forcing turnovers, even by roaming the passing lanes, is a defensive skill, and yes, like you alluded to, she's good at that.

It's like Coach White said, as retold by Debbie Antonelli in a game the other day...CC doesn't need to be an elite lockdown defender, she just can't be a liability out there on that end. At this point, I don't think she is a liability. I've watched her not be one just over the last couple of games.

A'ja is the current face of the WNBA

Best player maybe.

Face of the league? Absolutely not.

This would be like saying Jeff Gordon was the face of NASCAR in 2005 when it was definitely Dale Jr.

Caitlin Clark is so popular that they have to say a game with 700,000 viewers is the most watched non-Indiana regular season game on whatever cable network they’re talking about.

I’m concerned about that injury. Long offseason but she can’t afford to injure that leg again before she goes pro.

I'm VERY concerned with Angel Reese's injuries. She's tough as nails but she's sustained several now and I don't know how much more she can take.

The league has GOT TO get control of this. All of this growth goes away if they lose Caitlin and Angel.

And I'm not saying they need to protect Caitlin. I'm saying they need to protect ALL their players.

The injuries among W players are, sadly, not surprising to me. These ladies play a lot of basketball, and they play hard. For the vast majority of them, there is no offseason, because they need to make ends meet - so they play even more basketball overseas or in Unrivaled. The ones who get drafted out of college play a full W season right after playing a full college season. It's a lot of wear and tear on their bodies. Eventually, something has to give.

I love Court. :XXROFL:

Courtney Williams didn’t appreciate what Angel Reese had to say after their upset win this past Saturday night.

Following the Chicago Sky's six-point home victory, Reese was interviewed by ESPN and immediately began praising her teammates. Showing them love wasn’t an issue, but apparently, when Reese shouted, “Dubs in the chat,” Williams took offense to it, even though it's been a slogan she's often repeated after wins.

Tonight, several days after the loss, she got a chance to pay Reese and the Chicago Sky back.

“Back to regularly scheduled programming, dubs in the chat,” said a hyped up Williams after the win.
Knowing how she is in general and seeing her and Reese dap it up after she beat Reese off the dribble in one of their recent games, I feel like the framing here is likely inaccurate/exaggerated. Regardless, it's all in good, competitive fun IMO.

By the way, to all the CC diehards here, look up "Courtney Williams Caitlin Clark" on YouTube when you get a chance. I think you'll like what you see. 👍
