WNBA 2025

I’m referring to when Paige shoved Sophie then got the call.
Yep, I know, and again, I'm with you on that one.

Paige was flopping all night. It’s what she does. And why not? She gets the calls her way most of the time. And when she doesn’t get the call, she gets a give me a minute later.

I know Caitlin flops too and I wish she would stop. Especially because she should know by now that she’s not getting the call so she might as well focus on the game. That whistle is reserved for Bueckers and Wilson.
I'll grant that this statement is true without actually checking, because I can believe it. Welcome to professional basketball, homie. Yes, in general, the star whistle is a thing IMO, or at least it was when I was still watching the NBA.

Every star didn't get the special star whistle, only certain ones. Granted, I watched the NBA while the disgraced Tim Donaghy was a ref, so that may have played a factor in it to some extent. Regardless, it's messed up, and it shouldn't be that way, but unfortunately, it is.

Also, everybody flops or sells contact from time to time - anything to try to get that extra little bit of an edge in a competition. It's part of the game at this point. I'm not crazy about it, but I also don't take it particularly seriously. The refs have gotten better than they once were at recognizing actual contact vs. flopping. Gotta do what you gotta do out there to try to win. It is what it is.

It's part of the game, but I do wish Caitlin would stop. I'm singling her out here. Because she doesn't get the calls. Just get back up and focus on the game.

The irony is, yeah, every sport shows favoritism to their stars. NASCAR did it with Earnhardt and they definitely do it with Chase Elliott now (waiting until he hit pit road to throw the caution was egregious). The NBA does it with Lebron. The NFL does it with Mahomes and the Kansas City Swifties. But, with the WNBA, why would they show favoritism to players and the undisputed face of the league not be the one they protect? I'd argue that you need to protect Caitlin Clark and Angel before you protect A'ja Wilson and Paige Bueckers. Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are the ones driving viewers.

Sophie Cunningham has a bad whistle too, but she's very rarely innocent, so I get them a pass on that. And Aliyah Boston gets terrible calls, but again, she's a very physical player.

It's whatever to me. No one's gonna stop until they make it an official rule (or actually enforce the rule if it exists). I don't notice it to a great extent, nor do I notice the refs really falling for it these days when it does happen.

Don't ask me to try to figure out the logic and nuances behind the star whistle. I've never understood it and never will. In Donaghy's case, it had to have been at least in part because the dude was betting on games. I don't know what the excuse is these days.

Boston works her butt off in the post, man. The other post players probably hate playing against her because of that, but I love that about her. Whoever's covering her is guaranteed to have a long night. :lol2:

Funny response to a nonsensical comment. I would've asked Can who's holding her down and forcing her to watch all these Indiana games. If you hope to see less of those games, that can easily be arranged right now, today, without spending a dime. :lol2:
I quote tweeted and told her to prepare for disappointment.

No, she doesn't have to be disappointed, though! There is another path! She doesn't have to watch any Indiana games at all!

Am I wrong? Is someone forcing you to watch Indiana games against your will, Can? Does your remote not work? What am I missing? Help me! :lol2:

The night I fell in love with Spicy Sophie.
If this was 2005, when I was in the peak of my NBA fandom, I'd have been right there with you guys getting amped up about it in one way or another. Twenty years later, having witnessed craziness like the Malice at the Palace and having grown up since then as a person and a basketball fan, I saw all that and was just like "where were the refs at?"

Coach White tried to tell them, and they didn't listen, hence the outcome.

Shout-out to a couple of Valkyries, the starting PG on my All-Hustle Team, the Backcourt Burglar, Veronica Burton, and former Lynx player Ceci Zandalasini. They were the Splash Sisters against Washington yesterday.

Veronica finished with 30 points, 7 boards, and 7 assists. She went 10-13 from the field and was 6-9 on threes. Ceci scored 20 points on 7-10 shooting and went 6-8 on threes! Sheesh! 🔥

Rebecca Lobo is in disbelief over the Boston foul call in the Fever VS Wings game.

I appreciate the honesty from Marina. Everybody makes mistakes, but everybody doesn't admit to making them. 👍

Yeah, she admits to making a mistake because most everyone is coming down on her for the act of shoving Clark. The grin on her face didn't show much remorse.

Something to watch for, as Chicago continues to unravel, Minnesota has their no. 1 pick next year.

The rich keep getting richer. Very possible Minnesota somehow gets Azzi Fudd on their superteam.

Nah, I think Marina's a big girl and can handle some criticism. She's never come across to me as someone who is soft, timid, or minces words. Speaking out in an interview in this manner, admitting that, yeah, she swung out too far, showing CC grace regarding a separate run-in they had, etc. makes zero sense to me if she doesn't actually feel that way.

Much like the referees who make mistakes, these players are only human and sometimes do things in the heat of the moment that they come to regret upon reflection later. Let the hate flow through you if you so choose. Twenty years ago, it may have flown through me, too. Today, I'm not throwing this young lady or any others under the bus over one stupid, reckless decision in one game.

LOL, Boston's always getting tied and hooked up like that as she wrestles in the post with her opponent. I'm 50/50 on that call, maybe leaning towards the call that was made. Either she just couldn't get out of the way or Li Yueru has some prime armpit strength. The refs went with the former. :lol2:

Yeah, I disagree with the call, but Aliyah Boston is an aggressive player too. Like you said the other day, anyone who is assigned to cover her has a very unpleasant two hours ahead of them.

I agree with Sophie on the Paige whistle, but Sophie's rarely innocent herself. She ain't called Spicy Sophie for nothing.

I believe that I will go with Rebecca Lobo's assessment of the call. She has a might more knowledge and experience in these type of things.

You go with whoever you want, Muggle. I apologize for my dumb, inexperienced, and very mildly contradictory, if even that, opinion on the call. :lol2: 🤦‍♂️

I started laughing when I saw the beginning of the clip, which only showed the last portion of it with AB's arm extended straight up and in Li Yueru's armpit. I was just like "how? How did you end up in this position?" :lol2:

Ain't no slackin' in the post when AB is on the court. She earns her money every single game and ensures that her matchup earns theirs, too. I get tired just watching her wrestle for position sometimes. I love it.

Aliyah Boston don't play. 💪

Okay, I'm finally starting to see what you guys have seen in DiJonai Carrington all along. There's a clear pattern that has become much more apparent to me this season. Too many hard hits on players going up to the basket, too many reckless closeouts, etc. It's not cool.

This is an old clip from the beginning of June, but what is this? Come on, man.

I see DiJonai as the WNBA's Bruce Bowen. She's a great defensive player with a really unfortunate habit of doing dirty stuff. Even if it's all unintentional as she often claims, the girl is just outta control. She's gotta chill.

Stick with us and you will also see the dirty playing by Plum and Mabrey

As a great man once said, prepare for disappointment. I still like DiJonai. I just don't like her recklessness.

IMO, Plumber and Mabrey are competitors, period. If either of them played for Indiana, you'd love them just as much as you love Sophie.

Fortunately neither of them will play for or fit in with the Fever..

All right, you're hating just to hate at this point. I'm sorry that I happen to like players you don't like, brother. :lol2:
You assume too much, I have said from the beginning that I didn't like Carrington Reese, Plum or Mabrey, all for specific reasons. You may like any player you choose even if they don't agree with my likes. I have my own favorite players and they do not have to agree with you choices.

Muggle, I've long since made the bolded clear on here, and I've long since known who you like, and vice versa, yet here we sit, going back and forth all day about it. This is just silly at this point. Respectfully, please, can we just let it go?

The Indiana Fever disrespect is so wild to me.

Kelsey Mitchell should be right up there with Napheesa Collier and A'ja Wilson ... and above Wilson.

So, Kelsey Mitchell is better than CC? :lol2:

In all seriousness, it's a video game, and it's a 2K game on top of that. No one is ever completely happy with their ratings.

Kelsey Mitchell is the best scorer in the league right now.

🤷‍♂️
Does being the current top scorer in the league make her better than CC, though? I dunno about that one. 🤔

It's all subjective, and it's not really a competition between them IMO. That said, from where I'm sitting, Kelsey Mitchell is a great player, but CC makes everybody, including Kelsey, better when she's on the court. I would say that makes CC the better player, but YMMV, of course. There's no right or wrong answer.

Agree with all of this, but I will say, I would not like Sophie Cunningham as much if she wasn't part of the Indiana Fever.

She earned that "Spicy Sophie" moniker and not from being fine as hell.
I appreciate your honesty on that. I get why some of you don't like players who are like her, like Marina, Plumber, etc., the spicy, fiery, trash-talking uber competitors. I used to feel the same way back in the day, to an extent.

Agree, Kelsey should be ranked #2 this year after Collier.
