It's a done deal. My buddy has been there doing a lot of surveying for the past couple of weeks. He said as soon as this race is over it will be all hands-on deck. This is going to be a much larger project then I imagined.

I don't see how this can be done with modifications. Seems to my ignorant eye that they'll basically have to rip out everything except maybe the grandstands and basically start from scratch.

Auto Club Speedway President: No Timetable For Converting Track - SPEED SPORT

The president of Auto Club Speedway gave an update on that status of converting the 2-mile speedway into a short track.

I don't see how this can be done with modifications. Seems to my ignorant eye that they'll basically have to rip out everything except maybe the grandstands and basically start from scratch.

My understanding is that they are taking out both ends of the stands that are not under the suites. They are moving the tunnel and are going to park the haulers on the outside of the track and have the teams pull pit boxes to the inside the track like the local short tracks do. They are also constructing other buildings on the property for other businesses to lease. He said that a lot of the leases are already filled.

That was the master plan coming in to do all of that. They said they had some legal hangups or something along those lines, but that was a couple of years ago. I bet we will hear something concrete pretty soon if it is going ahead.
