Xfinity RACE thread --- Talladega

Just got off work and watched the highlights. Honestly, what are we doing??? I'm just happy everyone was able to walk away. That was hard to watch!

That #31 was involved in at least three wrecks and he finished 7th. He should buy a lottery ticket after that mess.

Every year we race at Talladega we get the same comments like "we should bulldoze it", "its crap" etc.... but the majority of the fans think this track produces some of the most exciting racing in the world as controversial as that statement may be. I love Talladega, what needs to happen is the people controlling the steering wheel need to use better judgement, quit putting themselves and others in compromising situations. You can race here without running over each other.

Ryan Sieg's post-race is the Dega approach, some guy's got a handle on how it needs to be done, he's one of them, great run by him and the 39 team, unlucky result getting caught up in the super late Hemric block big one, but mistakes will be made. Jeb Burton, elite clear defense for the win, Creed had some monster runs at him, that's a feel good win for them and Jordan Anderson's team.

straight up some of the hardest hits I've seen here, acceleration into the wall and angle, glad everyone's okay and another testament to the safety innovations of nascar, safer barrier thank you.

The drivers these days think they have to be aggressive on lap 10. It's completely unnecessary & the wrecks are avoidable. Joey Logano is one of those guys with that mentality. Talladega has produced caution free races on a harder to drive car, the gen 4. Infact, they did it two years in a row back on 2001-2002 on a field with much less talent than today.

I don't see how that can happen. This style of racing relies on the draft. That leaves the drivers little choice but to make drastic lane changes. Even when they don't, they can't avoid the effects of someone else' screw-up. As long as the leader has to continuously switch lanes to keep from being passed, sooner or later he's going to make a mistake. Break the packs up somehow, and I don't care how it's done. Knock down the banking, stick in some chicanes, or close the bottom 20 rows of seats and run the same engine package as the 1.5ers.

If these guys had better judgement, they'd be tax accountants.

Every year they continue to watch, like something is supposed to magically appear from the sky to change a herd of greedy, selfish, aggressive, drivers, into a kind considerate , no please, you go first, take my spot I don't care, go ahead and take my fender off, I don't need it. Now who are the crazy ones again?lol.

I watched 2 post-care center interviews that left me wondering how in hell these guys passed the concussion protocols.

One of them, Riley Herbst, is supposed to be racing again today.

I hope not if that's the case, better to sit it out than regret it later.

An update from the Perkins family:

“Blaine is alert, in good spirits, and continues to be observed at a local hospital. We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers. We will continue to provide updates as they are available.”

I agree. Superspeedway racing can be great, 30 cars under a blanket going 300 kph can put on some fascinating action but unfortunately too many of these races turn into crashfests nowadays.
I've seen some old plate races on YouTube and the drivers just seemed to race each other much more respectfully back in the day. They did run three and four-wide but the big one was not as common as it is today.
on a field with much less talent than today.
That is your opinion...

If these races didn't count, I'd ignore them like I do the Clash and All-Stars.

I figure if I boycott and quit watching these type of races, it won't change anything. I'd 100% prefer anything other than Dega or Daytona, but something is better than nothing, even if I do complain about it. Shoot, I complain about my job every day, but I still walk through those doors 5 days a week.

It smells, but I pinch my nose so it isn't so bad.

It’s ok to be critical of nascar. Especially when half the field gets wiped out.

Should we blame NASCAR or the drivers? Ultimately it's the drivers making the moves that cause the wrecks, but for over half the field, they know this is their only chance to win, so they'll do absolutely anything to make it happen.

The drivers wouldn’t race this crap if they didn’t have to. NASCAR makes the rules.
Listen to the driver feedback.

With win and you're in, drive a lap and park it. You don't need this race, especially if you have a win already. Nah, jk. Drivers sponsors may not appreciate that.

Why am I justifying my opinions and viewing habits in a sports forum? That's a bigger waste of discretionary time than watching plate races.

And you would think somebody that was locked in would drive to the back and ride around. That isn't how it works, these guys love to race.
