Although I believe that NASCAR has royally screwed the pooch with this latest change in the Chase format, I'm slowing becoming resigned to it . . . . yet again.

What's just recently occurred to me is that this new format could have a dramatic impact on our picks in whatever fantasy games we might be involved in.

If a driver manages to win a couple of races early in the season, thereby virtually clinching a spot in the Chase, can we really expect him to continue to perform well, as if the old points system were still in place ?

I guess only time will tell.

I'm not going to worry about it. :) I'll pick my drivers the way I always do --- throw darts. ;)

that is the glaring hole I see in the latest. All they talk about is the importance of winning a race. After they win one, now what? Watch them to make sure they are doing 100%? Ya think they are going to go for the win, or will they ride around and have a top ten. I guess we will be saying, oh yeah, so in so has already won a race, so they aren't going to take any chances wrecking the car going for the win, they are already "in". If that is the case, I will be watching another series where they race cars, and tuning in later in the season for the "playoffs" when they start racing

So, under the 'one win and sandbag the rest' rule I guess we'll have 26 different winners heading into the Chase with the top 16 in points being selected? Of course these guys are going to race for the win week in and week out. That's what they do. That's what they're paid to do. That's what their sponsors expect them to do.

I certainly hope so.

I get the impression that numerous drivers have taken offense to the idea that they've just been "points racing" all this time and that now with the new championship format they'll finally start trying to win a race.

My thought now is that I figure I'll eventually come to accept Brian's latest brainfart at manufacturing an exciting finish to the season.

My hope is that NASCAR will quit with the manufacturing of exciting finishes on race day with the late race "bunch-up-the-field" phantom debris cautions.

Exciting finishes are so much more memorable when they just happen on their own.

I agree with what you said pjmolo. Manufacturing wins like a puppeteer pulling strings can backfire I believe. Johnson proved that last summer in the all star race. As it is right now they started racing for the chase the first race of the season, points counting, position driving, etc. If Nascar is so concerned with winning as they say they are, put about a 20 point bonus for each win after the first one, and screw the playoff crap. That is not even close to what they are proposing, win one and you are in the dog and pony sudden death elimination rounds at the end of the season, win 3 or 4 races? who cares. Same crap about the chase reset and whoopie, you get a whole 3 bonus points for winning a race.

Yeah, I think five is it. I'll add your list of five soon. I've been too lazy to compare the list against what was on the Yahoo site. Thanks for doing the work.

You have 37 so far, what is a full Yahoo Fantasy roster, is it 42 or as many as you can get?

I think we've had more that 43 before but I don't know that we ever reached a limit. I'm not even sure there is one. I wouldn't mind finding out though.
