The Story about Newman...
Well, it was Thursday... March 20, 2003... the day I was finally able to meet Ryan. After waiting in line for many many hours, the time came.. When I walked up to Ryan, he was right then one of the nicest guys I've ever met in NASCAR. You all know how he isn't very social and all that, but I was like one of the 5 people he actually talked to. All kinds of people that I walked around or over-heard was pretty pissed to the fact that he wasn't very friendly, talkative, etc.. but not to me... he was one of the coolest ever. He signed a few things for me, talked a bit, and then it was over. One of the things I told him was that I'd be there rooting for him in qualifying on Friday, and he said "Thanks, I'll be looking!" haha, he grinned and I left. On to Friday...
It was Pole Day at Bristol, time to watch all the cars attempt to qualify for the FC500. All went well... then it was time for Newman to come out on the track. As you all know, he blistered the track, and won the pole. Afterwards, while walking around, I came up on him and his PR dude. As he walked by, he waved and said "Hope ya liked that, thanks for rooting!"
For a dude like that to remember someone like me, pretty impressive...haha. I had no Alltel stuff on whatsoever, but he still remembered... thought it was pretty kickass.
Thats the story, and now I'm a diehard Newman fan..lol.
