You're entering NASCAR as the next phenom. You're unsigned to a contract. You've got your choice of teams to driver for. Every owner's waiting to have you sign on the dotted line with a ride and sponsor lined up. What team do you choose?

Hendricks. You get a chance to learn from the best, you get quality equipment. Sure you won't be the "main show" but long term you will be set up better than some other teams without a marque driver.

If you're that good... you'll be competitive as long as ur on a high tier team. So I think I'd look at the Manufacturer and the money offered really. I mean if I had a choice for real.... I'd be picky.. why not? Go with the most money, favorite manufacturer and hell even favorite sponsor.. lol I'd even go as far as to say look at your team mates and factor your like/dislike for them in there.

I'd probably go with HMS though. The drivers on that team have the most cumulative experience in the garage and one could probably learn the most from them.

JGR has been outed as not being the best team mates. Other than Kenseth I think those guys are too selfish to help a rookie. So no.

Penske? Perhaps.... they would be a good choice but I'm not sure I would want to rely on younger guys like that as team mates if I could have Gordon and Jimmie, I think they have a lot more to offer from a wisdom standpoint. Plus with them you know if ur not running well it's you.. not the car.

Even if you already have a handshake agreement and Hendrick comes along with a way better offer?

HMS is getting a lot of votes, but here's why I wouldn't go that route. Despite being the best team in the sport for about two decades now, HMS always seems to have one team that's out to lunch. Those resources aren't going to be taken from Jimmie, Gordon, or Junior, so guess which car you'll be driving?

I somewhat disagree... Not sure its the car so much as the driver that's out to lunch.

Resources aren't an issue at HMS. It takes the right driver to do well in the #5 car. Mark Martin damn near won his first championship with that group. Kyle Busch was still incredibly young but had his 2nd-best Cup points finish in that car in '07.

42, 39, 38, 34..... Ages of Gordon, Jr., Johnson & Kahne. A team heavily leaning towards or into the later half of their career's. I'm young and I'm the next Big Thing entering this sport. I'm going to HMS. Soon enough I'll be top dawg there. The track record of HMS speaks for itself.

Agreed - I think KK is just as much of a reason for the 5's lack of success as anything. Besides Gordo, JJ, and Jr. won't be racing forever they are getting up there in age - if I am as good as dpk says I am then who do you think the focus will be when the big 3 are gone?

Beat me to it! Spot on tho

Is that you Chase? :D

Speaking of which..... I'd like to see him be JRM's entry into the Cup ranks but it's been said over and over by both Kelley and Dalr Jr. that a move to Cup is not in their future.
They also kicked their NNS program into a higher gear this year so it may be a test run for them to go top tier. And it's also been awhile since I've heard them deny starting a cup team.

It's been asked of both a whole lot of times over the past two weeks after the Chase Elliott's wins. The answer remains the same. Kelley is on NASCAR Radio every week on Dave Moody's show. Dale was asked again in the post race press conference this past weekend after both the Nationwide race and the Cup race.

I've been kinda out of the loop lately so it's no wonder that I missed it.

Whatever team Kyle Busch is on, nothing like learning from the best :waver:

Judging by how Matt Kenseth is as a teammate, I'd easily go JGR. Hendrick has some big stars in the twilight of their careers. I just feel as a rookie you'd be swallowed up in that garage.

That's true, but it wouldn't be long before someone else would be the low man on the totem pole.

Hendricks, duh! I mean who wouldn't want to drive for the Top Team in NASCAR?

You should have put restrictions on your choices dp.

Who on their right mind wouldn't sign with Hendrick if given the oportunity.

Hendrick is the best team in NASCAR, period.

Bet they have the biggest and nicest perks too. :booya:

hhmmm......maybe papa bill chose a sports agent 1st......instead of team. ??
he sure needed one in his racin career. remember harry melling.
note.....napa / nns deal sure happened quick ....media notice anyway. ?

maybe partial jrm cup schedule / full nns next yr .......cup team outa hms brain house. ?

hms
penske
gibbs
mwr
rcr

in that order, I wouldn't want to race for roush, might go to chip's team before I would do that.

One thing I know in motorsports, one can't be afraid or it just isn't going to work out.
Robby Gordon turned down a contract extension at RCR to start his own team, even had some nice sponsors, and ended up failing.

But Robby always had a thing for starting his own team. I remember back in his final season in CART (IndyCar), he started a "Team Gordon" and got sponsorship from his pal John Menard. Was equally unsuccessful as his later NASCAR team.
