Chase spec motor?..anybody?

Agreed that anything could happen. This new Chase format makes so much possible. Any cut into Hendrick's advantage would put JGR in the game given their talent. I believe that the Chase spec motor motor will be unveiled this weekend. This will tell the tale to an extent IMO.

Yeah, I have been back and forth on this since the failure. The ESPN crew kind of insinuated that it was experimental when Kyle said, "You know what it is...it's a piston...." to Dave Rogers. That made sense because Kyle wasn't totally freakin' out, and he was specific in his description. Of course, when they interviewed him, he said the problem was "...between the frame rails." Dave Moody put it out there on NASCAR Radio that he used the wording he used because Toyota has given him the word that his rants about the engines won't be tolerated any longer. Brian Pattie said today on NASCAR Radio that another spec is coming for Michigan and then a final one for Atlanta. Soooooo, my feeling is that there is a possibility that Kyle was running an experimental piece (not a different spec, perhaps a piston) on the assumption that it had a more than reasonable chance of holding together while producing more power. Kyle wouldn't run a Hail Mary IMO. It had to have been pretty much sound. I would assume that they could have been making some decisions on the Chase spec motor--probably too late for Michigan if they were experimenting. Equally possible is that Kyle has been given the gag. Why would he comply? Easy. Toyota is totally floating KBM, and he knows it (check out the truck sponsorships lately). Kyle has one more year on his contract. There is a significant possibility IMO that next year will be better with the horsepower reductions. The cars should suit Kyle, and if he gets on a roll and happier, he would re-up with JGR with the continued Toyota support for KBM. If he remains in the same frame of mind he is in currently, I believe that he will leave JGR next year in favor of anything running a Hendrick--maybe the Danica experiment goes away and he joins his brother at SHR. Without Toyota, KBM will go away. I doubt that Chevy and Mr. H. would float KBM. Overall, probably a combination of an experimental piece and the gag IMO.

So where is the hard proof that this engine isnt a reality ??? At this stage in the game I bet you have no clue

oh passo agress o, it was not I that said it was so, the motor appears to be a figment of the Revman's vivid imagination, wishing for something to ease the pain, a chase spec motor. but alas, almost all the yotas were at least a lap down. Sometimes a dose of reality will bring the afflicted back into the real world.

What is your point? I said that the Chase spec motor would be in in Atlanta, and to my knowledge it was. I'm not getting it, but thanks for reading. My source is Brian Pattie, Crew Chief, on the #15. He spoke to the timeline on Dave Moody's NASCAR Radio show. Now, crawl out from under the rock, and go get some sun.

I want you to know that I appreciate any and all name calling...... that said its obvious that the Gibbs cars suck, a blind man could see that. Surely you could also see that Kyle Busch out performed the rest of the JGR clan....................... perhaps he possessed the engine Revman speaks about ??? we will never know will we :idunno:

Thanks loads Revman....................... I been trying to get him back under that damn rock and you screw it up

ah yes..Chevy had a "mystery motor" and Toyota has revman's "chase spec" motor. Chevy really did have one though.

The Mystery Motor refers to Junior Johnson’s most famous car, which was a 1963 Chevy Impala SS with an extremely rare Mk II engine. This engine was a very limited production model that was wedged between the Mk I 438/409 engine and Mk IV 427 engine. This engine only saw roughly 50 total units produced, though some claim there were only 18 ever produced, making it one of the rarest GM engines ever built.

Mr. Gregory, you have a well delivered excellent point I had not considered. This post should serve as a model of disagreeing with somebody in a respectful way while delivering one's point powerfully and intelligently. Big respect Mr. Gregory. Thank you.
Gregory is a hard nut to crack, he has yet to call me any filthy disrespectful names :idunno: I have all but given up on him :(
Thanks for the endorsement, fellas. I appreciate it. And yeah, Kyle18, I'm no saint but I try to stay above that lowball stuff. That being said, I seem to have developed the strangest affinity for popcorn since I joined this place. :D

You should be used to it by now, oh I forgot a Kyle fan. they can't take it, but they start it.:growl:
I know you're probably just joking, but I actually think the opposite and would say that these two guys here take the ribbing very well. They seem like they're smart enough to know what they're in for as Kyle fans on a NASCAR forum and don't get all bent out of shape over every little negative comment.

You running for office or something?

Yep and yep :)

A fine piece but a bit weak in the bottom end

it doesn't look any better on a Toyota as it did on a Ford, rolling bumble bee billboard..there is a race car under there some where.

sdj, that's exactly what I was telling my wife at lunch today. "Hey, my old t-shirts are right again!" I'll duct-tape over the #17 and be good to go!

Nice to see Matt getting some love here. I've been pulling for him since he shoved Tony Stewart out of the way to get his first Busch win at The Rock, driving Robby Reiser's unsponsored car. I was also there that late afternoon in November '03 that Turn5ive included above, doing something that isn't possible in the Chase era - locking up the title a week early. I love the comparison I heard either Buddy Baker or Benny Parsons make - that Matt drives like David Pearson.

If you're ever near Cambridge, Wisconsin (close to Madison), Matt has that unsponsored Robby Reiser car in his museum. Of all the cool things in that place, that car is by far my favorite.

Duct tape on the hat too right?

Matt ran well at Phoenix this time around, to bad he had no chance of winning the race

Well no, but Hamlin went winless last season all the way to Homestead where he got that much needed win. That win seemed to set him up for this year.

Thats true I guess, a winless season cant be to good for a drivers attitude

Kenseth hung in there till the end. Every time I looked around he was in the lead pack, and came in third in the race. I was surprised he didn't make the cut. He's done really well the last couple of seasons.

I'm extremely impressed with Matt's ability to run well when it mattered all season. If not for problems in Texas, he may have walked into the final four comfortably.

New package next year may change everything. JGR could be dangerous again next year.

Thats what I am hoping for

Yep, its not like JGR had much to work with this year, but Matts improvement at Phoenix is worth mentioning IMO

A very interesting year indeed. Amazing that JGR never got a hold of the 0 Ride Height Package. Of course, much of the finger pointing went to TRD--and by its own admission, they were conservatively tuned, but I really believe that the chassis was a mess all year. Having said all of that, I am impressed by JGR's (and TRD's) sensible improvement over the last 1/3 of the season which has them with one bullet left. Horsepower is better. Short run speed is finally there. However, it is clear that the chassis goes away throughout a run. If Denny can hold onto the thing throughout a fuel run, he will contend on Sunday--and maybe even win the damn thing. He was stoked after the recent test, and I believe that he thinks he can win this.

I am glad that JGR finally got things straightened out at Phoenix. They had nothing for Delana's wife, but they were solid top 5.

I do believe that the tapered spacer plus the reduced downforce will result in a throttle on looser car which should play into the hands of all four of JGR's drivers. They will be a force IMO.

I was pissed when Race Day said that Toyota's fans were frustrated with this season. Okay, I love winning all of the time, but this sport is brutal, and in some respects, we got our asses kicked. Having said that, a true fan doesn't cut and run, and I certainly never will. I know with 100% certainty that the TRD crew in Costa Mesa is busting their asses to give JGR everything they need to win. It isn't just important to them--it is essential. I take a great deal of satisfaction in knowing that they want to win as badly as I do. Pretty gratifying actually. I also love Toyota's commitment to Kyle Busch. We all heard Kyle mention that without Toyota KBM would have been history a long time ago. Pretty good business strategy on Toyota's part IMO.

If winning in this sport was easy, I would be bored. This is a fascinating and awesome sport. I love all of it, and really, love coming hear to bull**** about it. Thanks to Kyle18fan for bringing me in. It's a great place. I will be dreaming of a TRD powered champion this week!

IMO, the #20 team gave up their shot at the cup with a questionable late pit stop at Texas. Hopefully he and Hamlin can finish 1-2 again at Homestead, but with the order reversed :)

My man Matt gave it his all every time out, with a little more HP who knows where he would be. At least he will be in the top 10 this year and that ain't all bad.

HP is fine man. The chassis....and especially the chassis at that place has been killing JGR. It is my understanding that TRD enlisted the support of BK Racing to get some extra testing in, and that was the difference maker on Sunday. I would assume that TRD picked up the testing bill for that team in return for some bits and pieces. Pretty damn smart for builder with the smallest fleet in the field.

Looking back on Kenseth's three Eliminator Round results, it's easy to pinpoint the race that ultimately doomed the Joe Gibbs Racing driver's title hopes.

Kenseth finished third in Sunday's final Eliminator Race at Phoenix International Raceway, and came home sixth in the Eliminator opener at Martinsville.

But a 25th-place finish in the middle race -- Texas, where Kenseth actually started on the pole and had one of the strongest cars before late-race contact with Ryan Newman -- proved devastating to his championship bid.

So while the 2003 Sprint Cup Series champion certainly regretted coming up short in Sunday's showdown at Phoenix, he tried to focus on some positives -- one of them being that Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Denny Hamlin will be among the four championship finalists at Homestead.

"That was a great run for this Dollar General team," Kenseth said after trailing only race winner Kevin Harvick and Jeff Gordon at the checkered flag. "We exceeded our expectations here. It was great run for us and I'm proud of the guys for being third. I wish we would have made it in, but last week was disastrous, so it was fun being here with a shot -- just wish we could have come through. We just have to get faster.

"Fortunately Denny is in, so hopefully Denny can go take it home at Homestead. Definitely disappointed we didn't make it through, but it's just been so up and down and our downs weren't good enough and our highs weren't high enough to make it into the next round. These guys did a great job -- this is the best we've ran here in a long time -- so I'm looking forward to Homestead next week."

One of three winless drivers to make the Chase based on points, Kenseth admitted late Sunday that he never felt like his team had the horses to make a serious run at this year's title, despite showing improved speed in all three races of the Eliminator Round.

"In a way it's been that way all year," said Kenseth, who notched a career-high seven victories and finished a close second in the standings to Jimmie Johnson in 2013, his first season at Joe Gibbs Racing.

"I was pleasantly surprised that we've been able to advance from round to round, because we just haven't been that fast and we've had a lot of bad things happen. We got wrecked out of Loudon (in September) and had a lot of things happen here or there. Glad we were in, and wish we were still in it."

Kenseth at least takes heart in the fact that he ran so well at Phoenix, a flat 1-mile track where he hadn't posted a top-five finish since 2007.

"I thought we had a top-10 car all day," Kenseth said. "I could never run with the 4 (Harvick), but there were times when it was kind of equal to the 24 (Gordon) and the 2 (Brad Keselowski) was kind of even. I thought we had a top-10 car, and if we could get into the top five, I thought we would have a shot."
