Why , because he reluctantly followed orders from his car owner? Or because he hasn't been on a Championship team ?

There's no chance SHR would back out of that, it would ruin Clint's career. Besides he's actually done a good job at HSM.

I'm really curious to see what happens with HSM next year. The 15/51 is losing their driver and all their sponsors, and the 46 was leasing their charter. I thought both teams, especially the 15, would take a step forward this year but it didn't happen. The future of HSM really seems up in the air at this point.

I think RCR is gonna lease that charter for Ty if they plan on keeping Newman around.

This year's silly season started last year with Bowyer's announcement. But it has been pretty quiet the last couple months when changes are typically announced. It looks like the top drivers are staying put and those guys tend to start the trickle down changes.

Can Ford buy a charter and lease it to any Ford Team it wants?

I know a team has leased a charter but wondered about a manufacturer doing it.

And when will they open up new charters? It seems like there is a lot of interest in them. Obviously this would mean more than 40 cars per race.

No.

Probably never and if they did, there would be a hefty price to pay because increasing supply devalues existing ownership of a charter.

It's easy to forget that NASCAR has little to do with this arrangement.

But increasing the price tag is why they have the charters. Agree that adding more charters means lowering the value of each charter, but at the same time it is growing the sport. Certainly a tricky game to play. These race teams just want something to sell as if they were a basketball team. They want their 2 billion dollars for Hendrick Motorsports or Joe Gibbs. (The 2 billion is a reference to the LA Clippers that were sold recently in case folks aren't up to speed on their basketball). And I don't blame them for that.

I don't either. I'm not too familiar with expansion in most other sports. I do follow hockey closely and new franchises are very expensive before the owner spends a dollar on anything else. Existing owners split the expansion fee dollars.

It's a business, after all.

-Bowyer to the 14
-Annett stays in the 46 for one more season before Newman joins HSM, loses a team/charter they were leasing
-77 team buys Premium Motorsports charter which HSM was leasing
-Ty Dillon to 95 for a season with increased RCR support before driving 31

Hoping to hear soon that Miller Brewing will renew with Team Penske and Brad Keselowski. The current contract runs through 2017, but the "normal pattern" for this deal would be to announce an extension this fall or winter. Miller has seen a change in corporate control recently, so that creates uncertainty even for this long-standing relationship. IIRC, Molson Coors Brewing is now the sole owner of Miller, and previously they were part owner. And taking on full equity, they probably also took on new debt. So that bears watching, IMO.

If Miller renews on the 2, it would not surprise me if Penske is interested in acquiring a charter for the 12 and Ryan Blaney. If that happens, the charter might be leased to Wood Bros. for 2017, and then brought into Team Penske for 2018.

If only Dan Marino and Troy aikman purchased teams again. Why did they leave ?

I am not a Ford fan, Chevy guy, but I am excited to actually see a real manufacturers battle between the 3 now with SHR at Ford. I'd almost say Chevy is the weak link with the lack of RCR success and Hendrick that has been off their game since 2014.
The pendulum has always swung back and forth . 2017 will be interesting . Toyota sure has the best people right now.

If your talking drivers, I beg to differ. But they do have 4 teams running about the same so I will say they have the top equipment of all teams.

Not being a Gibbs fan , I understand you bias . But , when Gibbs went out and got Edwards and Kenseth , they raised the bar .
They sure did but the driver is only as good as the team behind him and that is why all 4 cars are exceptional unlike HMS with 2 cars out of 4.

Anybody know anything about Austin Cindric?

Keselowski needs to keep him in trucks full-time for a couple of years or something. Dude is really a special talent being a "jack of all trades, master of none." I would like to see him develop as a NASCAR racer or see him get into sports cars full-time.

He's really freaking good at everything, he just needs to hone his skills in one area at least IMHO.

He's definitely going to stay in the BKR/Penske family. His dad is Tim Cindric, who is the heir apparent to Team Penske.

Yes exactly who he is I fully expect him to be full-time trucks or even possibly Nationwide next year he's only 18 right now

I think it would be pretty fast to put Cindric in the 12 next year. I kinda hope Hornish is given a shot to warm up the 2nd car for a year or two before handing it out over to Cindric or Reddick.

Isn't it at all obvious to you that Penske is done with Hornish. Part of the reason for the 2nd car is Ford's initiative to improve their driver development program.

I'm simply stating that I don't think Reddick or Cindric (the candidates for the ride) are ready for the ride yet. If Reddick gets it, I think it's a risky move considering the lack of success in Trucks, maybe BKR is off though.

Maybe Penske could try signing Bowman to the 12 and having a plan in place to move him to Cup (though some of that is dependent on Junior's health, but I can't imagine Bowman wanting to sit around)

Penske has given more than enough opportunity to Hornish as did JGR. The guy just doesn't have it in the thinking process and makes to many desperate moves.

I really like what I am seeing with this kid and I believe he is right there with Elliot and Blaney.

Hornish was/has been decent with JGR. Though I agree he had plenty of opportunity with Penske, which is what the 12 ride is probably all about is Cup opportunity & not an Elliott Sadler role.

I'm personally really hoping Bowman gets the call to drive the 12. Reddick does have some talent, but needs more time & consistency before moving up.
