2017 Bristol - Food City 500 - Pre Race Thread

We did this several times. I'm not sure if they are still doing this these days but if you ever get the chance to do the Laps for Kids charity event, do it. I think it was $20 to take your personal vehicle onto the track to take laps around the speedway. They would take us out with about 10 vehicles at a time. As many people as you wanted in your vehicle as long as they are belted. No passing. Just a chance to take laps around interstate speeds in order to experience the banking and fell of the track. One word..... Awesome!

Getting put back together.

yes I agree looks like a monday race is possible but have to wait and see, At least there are lights so we could see a night race also

Whew - my go to weather forecast sites say 90% rain
for Fri,Sat and Sun. Oh well. I will hope it
moves out and we can get it in Sunday nite.

Worst part about this - bye bye VHT

Saw this same thing happen last year when they laid it down.

Havin' it go off as scheduled would be a good thing.

We see how folks get on off weekends. Ain't pretty.

I am so edgy I am ready to take a few special friends from here on a splendid one way trip to a lovely locale.

Glad I decided on Martinsville this year instead of Bristol. Last time I was at Bristol I spent most of the weekend in my hotel room waiting for the rain to stop. In fact, I was still in my room when they made the foolish attempt to start the cup race when it was still raining. One thing that impressed me about Bristol is they were well prepared with track and security personnel to handle the delay, unlike many other tracks I been to.

It is a track they can get into shape pretty quick and they have lights but it seems we ALWAYS have to sweat the weather this first race. It sucks. Got up one year to snow on the ground. It needs to move a little later in the year IMO.

I know weather is always something to be considered when attending a Nascar event but I always feel bad for the fans that traveled and made the effort to get to the track. In my situation it doesn't really matter what day or time the race takes place or even if it is postponed indefinitely but I know for many people it does.

Sunday night is looking better.

There is a front that's stalled out that's made for a wet week here. It moved north and gave us rain the last 2 days. They say it's supposed to drop back down over the weekend and bringing more rain. It may or may not happen.

It's weird that Bristol rarely had issues with rain for the longest time. But the last several races have been plagued by it and had their first ever rain delayed race in August. I guess moving their dates off previous times have not worked out at all.

100% for Sunday now. Grrrr....hopefully it moves through fast enough it's only in AM or early afternoon.

National Weather Service as of 2135 hours this evening:

Sunday. Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 66. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Sunday Evening. A 30 percent chance of showers, mainly before 2am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 47.

Monday is pretty but it'll all be different by then anyway.
