Return of the XFL???

Virginia Beach should have some sort of professional team seeing how it's the 41st most populous city in the nation.
That's why its the area not just the city when you include Newport News and Norfolk you get an area with a population of 1.7 million which puts it ahead of several cities that host professional sports teams already.

Yeah, it's hard to believe that area doesn't have a single professional sports team. There are definitely enough people there to support one.

In getting star players the XFL is already having setbacks:
1. Former NFL WR Dwayne Bowe would play in the XFL if the money was right, just like Greg Hardy. But also just like Greg Hardy he has a criminal record.
2. Tim Tebow didn't respond to a question about possibly playing in the XFL. He's probably staying in baseball anyways.
3. Terrell Owens has been trying to stage some sort of comeback into pro football for years now. Unless you count the warrant that was issued for T.O.’s arrest back in 2011 when he missed a court date regarding child support, McMahon’s eligibility requirements don’t expressly exclude Owens from playing. But Owens is ticked off by the fact that (just like everyone else) it seems the league will be filled by a bunch of happy do-gooders due to the arrest rule, meaning he probably doesn't want in.

Not quite the best start for a new football league.

Owens is done, too old, and wouldn't have that big of an impact anyway. Tebow isn't going back to football, he's got one more shot at a professional sports career and as slight as it is that would be in the MLB. There really aren't too many big names to lure to the XFL, it will end up being pretty much what it was before, a has been league.

A competitor to the competitor...in this case, the league already has a deal for CBS to broadcast the season opener and the championship game. Live mobile streams for all games. No kickoffs or PATs, shorter game windows, other safety measures...

Maybe the XFL, might of worked on it's own , but another league? I can't see this working.

They can put their headstone right next to the XFL headstone. Each destined for failure.

There are thousands of em flipping hamburgers every year who would play for peanuts. It's gooned up a bit more like a pick up game. Who knows, hard core stick n ballers will probably go for it. The NFL will be sniping the good players that hopefully would be under contract to the league and making headlines and money with the trades. Hell of a lot cheaper on the taxpayers paying for college scholarships that aren't going anywhere.

Yeah, these competitor leagues never last more than a year or two. The only minor football league that's managed to survive is the Arena League, and that's because it's a completely different style of football and isn't trying to emulate the NFL.

Not in this town. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that each of the season ticket holders new their fellow fans on a first name basis.

Bumping cause like, the cities been leaked or something? Will be made official this coming up Wednesday

Dallas
Houston
Los Angeles
New York
St. Louis
Seattle
Tampa Bay
Washington, DC

Hmmmm, I know for sure I won't cheer for the New York team, cause I don't like any team from New York.

Yikes.

I legit think this could work in no more than two markets - Seattle and St. Louis. Every other city is some big market where they'd be a twelfth priority or something or just a generally ****** sports market.

Yeah LA isn't showing up for Chargers games they aren't going to show up for the XFL

Yeah, the St. Louis one is a good idea, cause they seemed to love football up until they lost there team last time. We'll see how it works out for them, but not looking good based off the cities.

I understand putting teams in the two big TV markets, but geebus, Cali has four NFL teams, plus I think they a few Indoor/Arena teams as well, talk about Football saturation( I understand IFL/AFL are not the same as NFL/XFL). I agree 100% with KKfan91 , if people are showing up for Charger games, what makes the XFL think they will show for their games.

Question, how well do the Rams do in LA with tickets? Could be people don't go to Charger games because they are Ram fans??? Which means maaaaaaaaybe they could support an XFL team since it wouldn't be going against them supporting the Rams?

That is a LOT of games on broadcast TV.

I was a huge AAF fan & probably a huge XFL fan and I'm disappointed team names aren't announced yet...

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but Renegades, Roughnecks, Battlehawks are all pretty good. Dragons & Vipers are OKish. I don't hate Defenders & Guardians like some seem to.

Only awful team name is Wildcats.

XFL-we want to bring back the Oilers
NFL- Over our dead body

BattleHawks for sure a kickass name.

Is it to soon to start the 'Demise of the XFL' thread?

Asking for a friend.

At least the XFL will probably make it to the championship game unlike the other league, and has a better TV deal (more national TV games) than the AAF.

I guess I like these against the grain/spring football leagues and don't want to root for them to fail.

Not sure anyone is rooting for failure. Simply saying it's destined for failure. History tends to repeat itself.

I suggest:

The Dallas Buyers Club
The Houston Problems
The LA Xitives
The New York Minutes
The St. Louis Homicide
The Seattle Seasonal Depression
The Tampa Baes
The Washington Bullsh!t
These names were much better......

My new word of the day..

geaux: (humorous) Informal form of go.
Geaux Saints!
Comes from the 2 years that I lived in New Orleans in 1967 and 1968. The Saints being formed in 1967 was a huge deal. I had to live there as part of the hiring on process for my new job. The Company headquarters was located there. I lived at 616 esplanade Avenue Apt C in the backside of the French Quarter.

Leagues really seem to love giving Tampa teams...fans seem to not care.
I never encountered (m)any people in Hillsborough County who actually cared about the Bucs. Most of their fan base seems to come from counties north and east of Tampa. The Rays have mediocre support and even those who do like them often don't go to the games because the owner's a jackass and the stadium is in St. Pete. The Lightning are the only real success story and truly likable franchise in the area.

I didn't see Bucs anything when I was down in Inverness, just Gators.

Well Vince is sinking some money into it & the TV deal IS better than the AAF's. I don't expect it to last too long, but I'm supportive of some decent spring football. It would be much smarter to take a month off after the Super Bowl & start in early March or so to generate more interest / better weather, though.
