When will NASCAR go EV?

"Using electric cars in NASCAR is not going to be feasible until someone finds a way to recharge batteries in just a few seconds."

Instead of recharging the battery pack in the car, they could swap it out... if they designed it right it would be faster and easier than when they used to swap engines during a race...

"Full speed is only with fully charged battery . As the battery runs down speeds drop. Range claims based on flat ground, battery saving speed and nothing else turned on like heat or ac .No one mentions the cost to charge either."

You need to update your information. Full speed is available until the battery pack gets nearly depleted. Range is measured using Federal testing guidelines that are more stringent than what you claim. The cost to charge is pennies per kWhr - most people see their monthly electric bill go up less than $20 per month for charging... $20 won't even fill most gas tanks once nowadays...

Have you seen a Formula E race? At about half distance to the car change they slow down. EPA range estimates have little to do with real world conditions. Have an old friend I've known 50 years who is an avid car guy and collector who has a new Tesla . He says 160 to 175 miles is all its good for. I've seen that its not as fast with a 30% charge. He drives a '49 Packard Woody when he's going long distances

I'm not sold on electric cars being the future. Just like how a few years ago 3D TV was going to be the new big thing. Lol never took off and instead everyone has 4K

Yeah I've seen a Formula E race. Just like race cars with conventional engines, they slow down more due to tire wear than anything else.

I'm sorry your friend has problems with his Tesla. He should get it checked out. I know several people with Teslas that get better range than that - a couple of them are original Roadster cars with battery packs that are approaching ten years old. None of these Tesla owners tell me that their cars slow down at half range. The system is designed to start limiting power when the battery pack is down to about 5% charge remaining - not 50%. So either there is something wrong with his car or he is misunderstanding something.

I guess if NASCAR goes EV they might as well go driverless at the same time. Would people watch 35 robot cars at 200mph around the oval track?

I believe Formula E is starting a companion seiers with Jaguar I-PACE electronic cars. Im sure NASCAR will be keeping a close eye on that market and might consider a EV Series at some point but I'd hate to see Cup got that way.

People already watch drone races. They also watch other people play video games. I enjoyed the heck out of Battlebots.

120 years ago horse racing fans thought the same way about auto racing. In less than 20 years, innovations allowed 200 to 500 miles worth of racing, while horses can barely do 1.5 full speed without dropping dead. At some point, if a more open formula style racing develops, they’ll engineer quick changing batteries, and have cars flying around speedways at 230mph. You may even see the competition change from who is the best driver, to who can design the fastest driverless car.

Fun fact, but the Kentucky derby has nearly double the ratings of the Daytona 500.

seems to me they both are continuing irregardless of Nascar having anything to do with either if them. All kinds of different horse racing today, same for racing series. Electro demo derby might be good for California, plenty of Prius's

This thread is certainly entertaining so that has made it worth the read.

Will it happen ? Not in my life time, so no need to ponder it for me.
