As Danica Patrick enter her final race, I just want to thank her. Thank you for not giving up despite all the issues, crashes, bad luck, criticism, etc. Thank you for giving it your all. Thank you for being a great role model for little girls everywhere. I hope for nothing but the best for your future.

Danica, on being seen as a positive influence for women in racing:

“That’s an honor,” Patrick stated. “At the end of the day, just as I have had to do and anyone that comes after me will have to do, they’ll have to prove themselves. They’ll have to bring a lot to the table. They’ll have to work really hard so, you know, what anyone after me brings will be just simple and easy, it’s going to be work.”

[...]

“It’s work for every guy too,” Patrick continued. “You have to catch the right moment with the right ride and the right sponsor. When the opportunity presents itself, you need to be ready.”

Never was a fan of hers what so ever, but I got my picture with her so i thank her for that. On the racing side of things.... I’ll let this thread handle that

I mean yeah good on her for what she did for the sport and for females everywhere and what they can aspire to be... But how did she not give up? I'm sure if she really wanted to she could have found a ride and tried to climb through the ranks through performance like everyone else.. she lost her top tier ride that she earned simply by being female and refused to go to a lower tier team.

Seems to me like she was still throwing shade at her ride?

I have nothing good to say about Danica, instead I'll just laugh at Blue guy for making 2010 Danica jokes.

How about that.... the #10 wrecks and Danica finishes her race and still has a car for the 500.

I miss talking about Danica...had to bring this one back.
After watching Race Hub last night, it sounded like Kevin Harvick was pretty happy that she finally moved on. He basically said that the 10 was really not part of the overall team at SHR. He said they would never consider looking at the 10 teams notes or setup. He is glad that AA is now in the ride and they now have a teammate they are willing to obtain information from and share with. I thought it was quite a jab he made at her.
Note, these are not the exact words from KH, but what I recall him saying in general.

Aric Almirola said pretty much the same thing when he was interviewed. He said his team had no notes to go by and was relying on Harvick to help his team get set up.

In 5 races, Aric already has 1/3 of the top tens she had in her whole time there. It shows it wasn't the car, but the driver. Danica never ran up around her teammates. Aric so far has probably been the 2nd best SHR car

Its no secret I am no fan of hers. But I gain nothing by bashing her. She's gone. I think she was good for SHR in one aspect. She brought GoDaddy cash to the table. Not much more though. Cash is the mothers milk for racing. She did bring that.

It paid for her to run in the top 25 for a long time. I wonder the income difference with Almirola even though he is running higher in the standings, I wonder if he and his sponsor's bottom line for SHR is comparable. Probably not for quite a while until GoDaddy bailed

My guess is, and it's only a guess, that where AA finishes is directly attributed to a sliding pay scale.

I have no idea how much Godaddy spent with SHR. My guess it was big. I've never heard an amount. My guess it was good for the bottom line at SHR. And I'm thinking Godaddy has deeper pockets than Smithfield meats. So the takeaway for me is this. Almrola is putting up better numbers on less money. That is nothing more than a guess on the money aspect though. There is no disputing he's been better overall for SHR from the performance aspect.

Well, the prize money is definitely better, although that's a smaller percentage of income than sponsor dollars. If he keeps running in the top 10, SHR will be able to find someone with deeper pockets.

I'm guessing his sign on was about the same or maybe a bit better then her sign off. They were really scraping towards the end of last season. Add in the intangible that the overall health of the SHR team is better this year and its pretty good going forward.

With Smithfield, there's a demonstrated record of the sponsor's checks clearing. That must be refreshing after Nature's Bakery and the checks not even arriving.

Natures Bakery reminded me of the "Tobasco Fiasco". That whole deal with Natures Bakery struck me as odd. Seemed like a "mom and pop" outfit coming in as a major NASCAR, on the heels of a major corporation like Godaddy. It seemed odd that the financial committment could be anywhere near the same. Apparently it wasn't.

meanwhile the car kept running and the driver checks continued. The whole organization knew what was happening also, not great for morale

Most assuredly I say Tobasco is not even in the same league as the fig people and not even the same game. It was never about funding with Tobasco as it was thinking Todd Bodine was the driver of the 35 Pontiac and then tuning in and finding DW was the driver of the 35 Chevrolet. Tobasco was dicked around and had enough. A direct response to the thread quoted I might add.

No biggie for Gene as he has more money than God so he can afford to sponsor his own teams.

My comparison was that both looked like a train wreck. Nothing but mixed news. Bad optics for potential sponsors. I think SHR just took whatever they could in order to keep the 10 on the track.

considering the horse dropped dead in the middle of the season, they were left holding the bag, contract or not.

Yep, not a good thing for anyone involved. And Natures Bakery is still getting some mileage out of it, kinda like Tobasco. Their problems were different, but both were a mess.

The math didn't line up, SHR questioned it, Nature's bakery kept saying that they could afford it, and the checks kept coming in light. If ya ask me a con man was involved. SHR called him on it before it went even farther and they settled it in court. I don't think Natures Bakery broke it off in SHR as much as he was trying too. SHR could of acted like nothing happened until the end of the season and really been stuck with a bill.

I have a Polaroid in the office of me at Darlington, sitting in a #35 Tabasco show car (please note the proper spelling!), combining two of my favorite interests - auto racing and hot sauce. The photo sits on the same shelf with the appx. 120 different empty bottles.
