NASCAR CEO BRIAN FRANCE BUSTED FOR DUI & OXYCODONE

... A corporation can't leave the ship rudderless longer than that.
I suspect Brian hasn't been at the rudder for a while. If they weren't looking for a Cup sponsor, they could probably run the rest of the season without issue. The possibility of selling a controlling portion of the organization might be a reason to delay. Who'd want an CEO job knowing he's likely to be out the door?

No, the head of the company was arrested. He's a major figure in the sports world and head of a multi-billion dollar company. He is the story.
I assume there's no reason they can't split time between the stories, but I've never listened to any of the radio shows so multitasking may be beyond them.

And whether or not he's actually the head of the company, or not, his last name is FRANCE. And in most
people's eyes that makes him the leader. Ordinary citizens don't know, or care, whether or not he's running anything but his mouth.
He's the one that carries the name and the one they see giving a "state of the sport" speech.

Just throw his name through the mud then.

He's done a phenomenal job of that. Its obvious Brian is just a face and does not do anything in particular anymore. He's not even good at being the face of the company.

Ok, you must work for the NASCAR or be a member of the NASCAR (cough, cough) press. He is the head of a multi-billion dollar sports entertainment business. Like it or not he is a national figure. He isn't your local baker. He is the story.
You run your business and Ill run mine. The story is all over the news ad nausem

People complain that the rules infractions get in the way of the week's storylines. This story is huge in the NASCAR world and outside of it. Bad for Chase, but Brian became the story once this happened.

We agree it is the story.

A figurehead that has degraded and embarrassed the brand and industry time and time again. There is zero positivity to keeping France around. He needs to be shown the door.

He was real handy for awhile, kept the heat off of the other ones. But now he finally did it.

Let's keep on topic, please. And leave politics in The Podium.

If you feel constrained by this being open forum, create thread in The Podium where
you can post as you wish.

I can't really explain how mad this whole situation makes me. I'm beyond angry with BZF -- he's
disgraced his name and dragged it through the mud.
Not only that he has disgraced Nascar.

Give him a case of Johnnie Walker, say thanks for nothin', and send him on his way

I wonder how under the influence he was when he came up with such great ideas like The Chase, Playoffs, Stages and whatever other "good idea" I am forgetting. In all seriousness this is a big story.... figure head or not its a bit of a black eye for NASCAR. This is like Bernie Eccelstone and his problems with the bribery/Tax issues.

And THAT is exactly why he must go. If people perceive him to be the leader, and he isn't really doing anything to BE the leader, and then goes out and does this stuff, he is a far bigger liability to the company than an asset. His being involved in NASCAR, even in a name only position no longer serves a useful purpose. You keep a figurehead around because they bring good will and good press to your organization. Brian no longer servesd that purpose either. If there is to be ANY figurehead in that family, it should be Jim France. I've never been totally convinced Brian that ever REALLY in his heart wanted to do this job anyway, and I think once things started to go south, he was less and less interested. He has seemed painfully disconnected from the sport for quite some time now. Of course substance abuse doesn't help.

These all werent Brian's Ideas.

Kyle Larson liked these two tweets, and it's not like Larson doesn't know how to use Twitter.

If you check Larson’s likes, he is the most passive aggressive driver out there lol

This will only make it harder to find another title sponsor.
I think it will make it far easier. IMO the NASCAR brass has oversold the brand and has asked way too much for too long. A realistic price point is long overdue.

I have an immediate family member that has been addicted to Opioids. It is brutal to live with. There was no rhyme or reason for them to become addicted, but they did. Jail got this persons attention better that anything. Rehab was a joke. We were informed the Bradford rehab facilities have about a 5% to 6% success rate. It's a swinging door in other words. Addiction is awful. It destroys more than just the addicts life. I may on an island by myself, but I do feel sorry for Brian. On the other hand I am glad no one was injured or worse by his actions. I've never met a person, who had a life goal of growing up to be an addict or an alcoholic. It's easy to label someone a "drunk" or a "doper, pill head" or whatever. The bottom line is they have a serious, life threatening problem. I liken it to cigarette smokers. How many of them do I know that have tried to quit, they know they need to quit, but they can't. They're addicted to nicotine. Probably not going to kill anyone else, but they're addicted just the same. I really am not to concerned with whatever impact this has on NASCAR, I hope Brian can conquer his demons. Addiction ruins lives, rich and poor alike, and everything in between.

Thats what I said. And you will see above where I said Brian needs to go.
Duh I saw that...what I'm saying is if you think the playoff structure is great and the stages are great, you have hanging out with France too long....I'm being nice when I say that, the other version wouldn't be.

Some seem to want to turn this into a personal fight. Please don't do it in open forum.
Take it private, or to The Podium thread.
It's beginning to take a nasty turn and getting close to being removed.

Complaining to me isn't necessary. I'll remove it when I see it. You want to fight or sling insults at each other, do it privately.

NBCSN's Nascar America treated BZF, not Chase Elliott, as the lead story. Nascar statement...

"... Brian France will take an indefinite leave of absence."

NASCAR Chairman Brian France: "I apologize to our fans, our industry and my family for the impact of my actions last night. Effective immediately, I will be taking an indefinite leave of absence from my position to focus on my personal affairs."

I hope it's a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG leave of absence --- as in years.

Letting Brian continue to represent Nascar and waiting until the wheels fall off was a stupid move by the family. Enabling him to do the damage he has done? I am not sympathetic one bit to the family that enabled him to continue to do what he does. He should have been gone from the Nascar business scene years ago. If he ever cleaned up and had a long track record of doing so THEN he should be let back into the company.
