2018 Darlington -- Bojangles Southern 500 - Pre-Race Thread

Looking good!

30% chance Saturday and Sunday, no mention of rain Sunday night, high temperature forecast to only be about 90 both days!

The cheap backstretch seats (Colvin) are about gone. Turns 1 and 4 (Brasington and Pearson) are going pretty well, although there are some sections on the front in Tyler and Wallace that are still only about 60% sold. The forecast will definitely help late sales.

And Matt is the perfect foil for those puns --- absolute dead-pan expression.
I wonder how many takes they had to do before he could do it with such a straight face. :D
 
There's some great bird watching in those swamps on either side of that walk. It was even better when this race was on Mother's Day, but I digress. :D

For those who haven't been there, that's Tyler grandstand facing the front stretch, with Wallace built into the berm. Note the absence of luxury boxes. There still aren't any there.

EDIT: Actually, based on the sweatshirts and the NEXTEL banner, I'm guessing this was taken back when the track had an April date. Pat?

No wait, I think this was in November 2004. That is the create date for the picture.

The “Last Southern 500” was in November, was in the first Chase and won by Texas Terry. I remember this because I was cheering wildly for Harvick to win

November 14th 2004 was supposed to be the last but wasn't. Jimmie Johnson won this race.
 
At least he made it to the finish. I've seen people passed out in the stands before the race was half over. :D

Someone's already pointed out Dale didn't even finish the pace laps one year. :p

That post was a lot more interesting before I reached the part about Denny, when I was picturing Claire in the shower.

Interesting. This is the first time all year I've had a problem with the NBCSN stream on my computer. It keeps refusing my Dish Network credentials, even though I can log onto Dish's site with them.

Whaaaaaat??? Man, I was so happy to see Terry win that race. That's one of my favorite memories as a race fan.

Also, it was 2003, last year of Winston, pre-Nextel and the Chase.
 
I'd really like Keselowski to turn his season around. This place would be great for him to get that momentum into the "playoffs".

Hell, Penske in general could use a shot in the arm.

yeah like Hendrick, they just don't seem to have the speed most weekends.
