Cup banquet moving to Nashville

I wonder if the move east will enable Nascar to feed the invitees again or if they will still have to brown bag it? I’m not sure why they don’t hold the event in Charlotte at the HoF or somewhere closer to the teams.

I believe the Queen City doesn't have enough sparkle, glamour, pizzazz...

But TBH, I can't bring myself to watch these events live, just excerpts as they leak out. The dressed-up jockeys and their WAGS amuse me, but it seems like good fun to close out the season.

I hear ya as the last time I saw one Kyle Petty was at the main table!

Surprised that they don't have it near Corona, CA where Monster Energy's headquarters is...

That's awesome. This is a good move getting back to the southeast where your core always has been. Only a 90 mile drive for me and Nashville is a fun town. Getting trucks and Xfinity back to the fairgrounds would be nice too.

On a more serious note, I view moving it to Nashville as returning the sport to its Southern roots. As regards the younger / potential fans, I'm not sure whether that's a good thing. I don't know how popular country music is with the younger demographics these days, or how many pay attention to the banquet. It could be a complete wash in terms of fan impact.

Nashville is booming with population and economic growth in recent years. That town has the traditional country music industry, but also a whole heck of a lot more these days. It's probably a better fit and will produce more enthusiasm locally than Vegas, at least initially.

Good news I suppose.

Just appoint Samantha Busch to head the NASCAR Prom committee.

NASCAR has drifted so far from its outlaw roots...

Charlotte?? I believe it isn’t Charlotte because a lot of people that live here including me isn’t from here and prob not interested.. and it’s prob a ton of other things going on and they prob just don’t want it here since the shops and everything else is here .. they prob just want to get away for a bit.. you do know the NBA all star game is here and will bring a 100 million dollars to the city .. so I’m really confused where that statement came from. If it can hold an NBA All star week it can mos def hold a nascar banquet lol

No offense, but to be honest it is a bit dreary.

Now I don’t go chasing the bold and beautiful in Charlotte, so perhaps I haven’t seen it’s better side. YMMV.

https://www.bisnow.com/charlotte/ne...-city-does-charlotte-beat-nashville-81423#ath I don’t think people understand how far this city has come along and how many people actually live here and how much money is here.. a lot of race fans don’t even come to the city when they come here.. if so it’s to the hall of fame and back to wherever they are staying .. they had a light rail train system here which has been extended to the university area and this is big..

Don’t hate me for having an opinion...
Don’t hate you but people throw stuff out there without knowing facts just to be talking. You still haven’t said where u been in Charlotte and why u think that? I’m waiting. Concord where the track is isn’t Charlotte

North Georgia

I ride motorcycles throughout the Southeast and up the Eastern Seaboard. I had the pleasure of buying one of my new motorcycles in the Charlotte area, so I don't hate the area, residents, or businesses. But to be honest, the place was too urban (small downtown blight) and suburban with awful traffic and all the strip malls; and downtown in the winter was not pleasant for the few days I was there on a trip where the ice storm shutdown the airport. Yes, I've been through your airport, both for trips to Charlotte as well as transit. I don't stay in Hotels, so I'm typically in a rental car living in a motel if I'm not on a bike. Charlotte area is good to cruise thru on the motorcycles, but no reason to stop except for fuel and chow; even though I love to stop in Asheville on my rides or for when I'm hiking the local mountains -- so maybe I'm just more in tune to simple folks, than others flocking in towards the money. You couldn't pay me to watch a basketball or football game, and I don't care what super-corporation owns my local politicians.

Anyway, sounds like your beef is with the NASCAR Party Planners, and not me.

And Nashville isn’t even bigger than Charlotte so how can you say it’s small and that’s one of your reasons not to like it but like Nashville lol I just don’t get it ..

I don't care much about the banquet itself but Nashville is a booming market for sure and I think it's a good sign of things to come as far as realignment. I'd be more surprised if Nashville Fairgrounds weren't on a national series schedule in 2020-2021 at this point.

Not to prolong this dialogue -- but I didn't say one of the reasons not to like Charlotte is because it's small. It does (IMO) have some urban blight in a small downtown area. :D

Anyway, I'd say make the case with NASCAR Party Planners and go lash a bunch of million dollar pontoon boats to each other on Lake Norman for the 2019 Banquet! You're welcome.

Step up and bring The Banquet to Charlotte. You have all the answers -- so make the better argument. Nobody is stopping you.

How dare NASCAR take their party to Nashville... :D

I think you do. Nashville is the preferred ven
Idc where it is as I stated plenty of times.. I don’t give a damn about some banquet
ue and you are exorcizing your frustrations. I find Charlotte dreary -- that is my opinion. Sorry you had to read that again, but that is my opinion.

As for the NBA -- wtfc. :)

No I’m wasting my time with u lol have a goodnight my friend

Back when Winston was the series sponsor they used to have pre-season shows in Winston-Salem (home of the RJ Reynolds headquarters) where most of the big names came to sign autographs and talk to fans. But they quit doing that and instead switched to season end banquets in big cities (starting with New York) because Winston-Salem was considered too small and boring. Winston-Salem has actually gotten a lot better since then, but it still isn't as jumping as New York or even Charlotte. Still, NASCAR was a fish out of water in places like New York and Las Vegas... makes sense to me to try Nashville now.

Heres why Nashville and not Charlotte- People want to go do something different, the people who race see Charlotte enough. I dont live in Charlotte but my girlfriend does so Im there a lot. Uptown is cool but I hate that its so compact and no where to park unless you hit a garage for 30 bucks. We ride the train from her house to the football games during the day but I'm not riding back after 8

Nashville is a great town but if you haven’t been lately a ton of people have moved in and beware of traffic jams. I think they are trying to catch Atlanta in terms of stop and go and stop and stay stopped traffic.
