Cable cutters... how do you watch the races?

I have an xbox one so I just started my free trial of sling TV. Just wondering who else on here has a way to watch the races.

I have YouTube.TV, which gives me my four local channels, plus NBCSN, CBS Sports, FS1 and FS2, as well as the other basics (FX, FXM, TNT, USA, MSNBC) and Smithsonian, and that's all just $40/month. I found TikiLive on MAVTV's site and their Indie package, which includes MAVTV Motorsports Network, is just $4.99/month, so I signed up for that yesterday. Unlike Fubo, you can get the Indie package separate instead of having to buy a basic package plus an add on package.

I use a Roku for all this. Both apps also work on The Big Bad Wolf (my laptop), my Samsung Galaxy tablet and my Samsung Galaxy Note.

I also have Pit Row TV on my Roku, which gives me all the CARS Tour races, as well as Legends Nation, which gives me all the big Legends races.

I just signed up for the YouTube TV free trial. The channel list is impressive; there's a lot to like for $40.

Mobile app and website is smooth too, since it runs off the YouTube platform. All the others I've tried have slow, clunky mobile apps and their websites, if you want to watch on a laptop, run off the archaic Flash platform.
 
I use an IPTV service. Paying $15/month for up to 5 simultaneous streams. If it's being broadcast, it's on one of many IPTV services. Take your pick.

Before that, I was streaming through Vue. They had my locals and all of the channels that NASCAR is broadcast on. DVR services included as well. I dropped them when they raised their base package to just over $40/month.

I just googled this. I pay $70 a month for Cable and some of these places are $15 - $40
a month. This would be great if I can record all the shows I want.

@AndyMarquisLive created a cable cutters thread over in the chit chat section. I don't want to pollute this thread with anything other than what it was intended for. I'll answer any questions that I can over there or just PM me.
 
I used to get a weekly e-mail from someone that provided a youtube link each week for the NASCAR races and Indy. When we travel it was awesome as we only have OTA channels. Late last year he stopped and said there were many others doing the same thing and we could hook up with them. Problem is I was never able to find any of those "many others". I could even link to it via my smart TV and watch just like a network broadcast. Wished there was a way to find one of those "many other" folks again. Once I remember Dale JR posted a link to a live stream of a race.
 
For most of last year, I had only my phone to watch races on when they weren't on an OTA channel. I would always just find a stream online. Pretty sure the sites arent legal, so I wont post the site I use. It's not ideal watching races on your phone, so I will probably be getting cable before the season starts, most likely through Dish. However, I think Sling will work just fine for you as it should have all the channels you need.
 
TikiLive premium package. 29.99 a month on Roku. I get Fox and NBC but I do not get FS1 and NBCSN so half the races I either watch the battle-cam and have MRN on, or I go to the track

That is the beauty of a smart TV, you can link directly to the internet and watch. I also have used an adapter that connects my phone to an HDMI cable that runs to the TV. If I am just sitting outside the camper, I don't mind watching on the phone, but if I have to be inside prefer the TV. Curious, how do you go about finding those sites?

Is that what 'Smart TV' does? I have one and have never researched what it does, much less how to use it. It was just another feature that came with the set that I didn't care about, like picture-in-picture or showing pictures from a flash drive.

Sounds like a 'Google' project for the weekend.
 
I have a laptop connected to my TV and a wireless illuminated keyboard that I use as my remote. I watch via network streams and some alternative streams depending on functionality. Best case scenario is when the race is on OTA and I happen to be home that day.

Yeah, I don't have home Internet. My tv has screen share that I can use without home Internet to watch my phone on my television, but there is major lag when watching videos through any site other than Youtube. But to find those sites, I simply search anything along the lines of "Free sports streaming sites."
 
Smart tv's are pretty nice but a much better setup is any HD television with a cheap FireStick. The variety of apps that can placed on a FireStick are almost unlimited. The FireStick runs apps that were created for the Android Operating System. They are easy to load onto the FireStick and open up many possibilities for streaming.

I bought a very good external hard drive and can't even operate that properly. That being said you know that at this time I'm sticking with Satellite/cable.

I think you have DirecTV. I had them for a long, long time before switching over to Dish Network. I used to have an external HD plugged into the Dish Network DVR for an extra 2TB of storage. With Dish Network, it was as simple as plugging it in. The Dish Network receiver formatted the HD to make it compatible. Bad thing was, when I dropped Dish, I was never able to reformat that HD. I never could figure that out.

I still have DirecTv and as long as I call them about once a year and threaten to leave it works out well. I DVR the races I want to watch and view them later free of all the clutter and commercials.

Threaten to drop service? If so, how much does it save you, if you don't mind sharing? Also, what about contracts? Thanks in advance.

In round numbers I beleive I was getting charged 100 bucks. I told them I was going to switch to another service for 50 bucks and they matched the price. The jacked it up again 12 months later and I called them again. I did not have to enter into any contracts

Yes. For some s this works great because many times where we camp there are no TV channels, but we almost always have access to the internet. So this allows us to watch on our TV all the shows and videos on the internet. Also I just enjoy watching some clips on the big screen better than the phone or pc, like Bells Chili Bowl feature win I think you posted.

It will probably respond to Windows' built-in DISKPART utility, or other low-level disk partition management tool. If you still have it and still care, peer message me.

I have no idea what I'd do with 2Tb of storage. I don't keep anything after I've viewed it.

Can I assume you're using a phone and an app to get the stream?

When I away from the home set, I DVR it all and catch up when I get home. If I'm so isolated I can't pick up any broadcast channels, I'm isolated enough I'm not going to learn any race results anyway.

Big Shout Out to computer man @Charlie Spencer!

I kinda gave up on that drive long ago. Could never get it to be recognized by my system since its use with Dish Networks DVR system. A little bit of research of the command you mentioned and troubleshooting with another PC..... And just 30 minutes later I now have 2TB of missing HD back.

That is what we do every year with DirecTV too, and the same with our ISP.

I use my phone as a mobile hotspot, no app involved. Just connect the TV to the hotspot like any wifi.

I have a Verizon prepaid phone. Their levels are $40 with three gig data-$50 eight gig-$70 unlimited. The website clearly states you can't use hotspot with unlimited. THEY LIE! I'm typing this on my laptop. So maybe i should try some type of Firestick? Just ordered a new OTA antenna Monday. It's supposed to be here tomorrow. My current flat indoor antenna is pretty glitchy with weather changes. Actually have it outside connected to old cable coax. Started to buy a motorized antenna but all the cheap ones seem to have issues with the motors. I'll mount the new one on a 10' pole and turn it by hand to find the sweet spot.

if someone you know has Direct TV, Dish, whatever cable provider
use their login to access individual TV apps

use whatever device you want, download Fox and NBC sports apps login and watch away

theoretically one person on this board could share their login and the rest of us could watch for free
not saying to do this but could work
