The Attendance Thread

I am not trying to turn this into anything other than a discussion about attendance. If you have difficulty discussing attendance then I cannot help you

Was it cool and breezy?

I really liked the overall race today, and quite frankly I was worried after the Xfinity Race yesterday with single car leading all those laps. I saw they had plenty of seating and was about to ride down from the mountains, but ultimately ended up preparing for the freeze tonight so I missed out at seeing it unfold in person.

I should've had faith that the Cup drivers were going to put on a good show (even the pit road antics) like they did at Daytona.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to plan for Night Bristol and the ROVAL.
Yep it was breezy. Actually for most of the day it was quite was warm in the sun. I am gonna head up to the NC mountains tomorrow. My wife said it was 90 down home today...way to hot for February, and me. I am probably one of the few people that actually enjoyed yesterday's weather.

Naw, the stands were not close to 50% full. I have pictures that show it but don't know how to upload them here.

Good deal. My xfinity tixs at Daytona are $120 each. The clash is $120 too. Spring training games for good seats are about $50-75 each. I just spent $400 each for 2 courtside tickets to see the bulls vs magic. Daytona is selling a 10 min track walk for super cross which is $75 and you need a race ticket too and they sold half of the tickets already.
It is all relative...I paid $175 for NO Saints tickets. But when it comes to NASCAR, I have rarely paid $100. Actually the only other time I remember was Talladega back in the day.

I will disagree with you on this. I have been going to Atlanta since the late 80s and in person the speed reduction was not obvious to me. It is just my opinion though.
What were the lap times from today compared to last year's lap times?

I have no idea. I just stated my observation/opinion regarding attending the race in person. I will say speed at a NASCAR race has never been a factor for me. I enjoy the trucks just as much as the Cup cars.

I was just asking not trying to argue.

The stands were pretty empty. The racing was pretty good.
Actual speed doesn't matter.!

I am used to being jammed in the stands at a cup race, unable to move in any direction without hitting someone

Good job Las Vegas, good crowds for the races all weekend. Cup looked
like about 75 - 80% full.

They finally eliminated enough seats to make it look relatively full. Current listed capacity is 80k. I honestly had no idea the track downsized their seating as much as they have. Were the lower level seats gone in the fall? For some reason the dirt bank really stood out today.

Phoenix should attract a pretty good crowd next week. Cali is always a science experiment.

I guess they photo-shopped some fans in, looked like a pretty good turnout to me..See that little line all the way around the backstretch and all in the infield? Those are RV's /Motor homes. That parking is far from free.

I only like sell out crowds when I'm watching the race on tv. I don't like large crowds if I'm there because I hate standing in long lines.:D

There used to be seats from halfway through 3 all the way through 4.

I sandblasted and painted some parts today, ordered a pizza and had a nap.

I went ahead and watched after talking the wife into watching, it is doubtful she will watch another. a few years back, my whole family watched ..... until the stage nonsense started

There was probably 55k there. Some empty areas in the upper grandstand. If you lowered those tickets by $20-$25 it would bring in another 5,000-10,000 imo. Main grandstand cheaper seats was 85-90% full.

Not selling out at Vegas is a major black eye for the sport. This is the biggest tourist spot in the country especially during this time of year, and there is no reason why the stands shouldn't have been packed all weekend even if prices weren't "low". If I were a casual/new fan who tuned into the race and saw those empty seats, I would probably have quickly changed the channel thinking that this is a sport nobody cares about.

It always amazes me at how many people choose to sit on or near the start finish line and often pay more dollars to do this. My personal preference has always been to sit in or near a turn. In my opinion you have a less obstructed view and can see more of the track at a glance.

I think the middle is closer to rest rooms and concessions are a couple of reasons, Jeff Gluck said that the concourse inside during the race was fuller than he had seen it, he said people were everywhere. Good turnout.

You just be careful if you ever go to Fontana. You know where I am sleeping, and if you wake me up, we are done with the TRD sweater and Kyle Busch pump exchange. I need my sleep. Just check under the seat before moving around, and if you would be kind enough to grab me a beer and hot dog for breakfast, it would be greatly appreciated.

I never really comment on attendance because I don't care, and it is all about perception without official numbers announced (even then, it is about perception really), but I am thinking that Fontana is going to be packed. As I noted earlier, hotels are sold out (based on my informal survey), and I think he anticipation is high for the new package at this place.

Fontana should sell out as there are millions and millions who could travel to the track and return home the same day without breaking a sweat.

I think you’re correct about the two mile tracks here. Could really see some great racing at Cali and Michigan with this package

I expected the stages to crap all over the NASCAR racing we've always known and grown up with, but if yesterday is anything to go by, your family oughtta give it a second chance! :growl:

The worst thing is that PIR has priced us out of going to the races like we used to. We used to attend every NASCAR event there but can't do it anymore, plus, all the recent changes have taken the homey feeling of the track completely away. I loved that place, used to call it my " second home"

I enjoy racing and couldn't care less if the stands are full or not. I do care if I don't have to wait for the rest rooms.

Vegas is just like some of the other tracks, get 2 races and the attendance for the usual sold out 1 race they had isn't nearly as filled as it used to be. Personally from a casuals point of view, I thought it was perfect for them. It was 60-70% full, plenty of room to move around. Attendance was on par with 2018 spring. I bet the fall race will have more people than last year.

They'd bring back 5,000-10,000 by lowering these ticket prices just a tad and allowing snacks and drinks (what a lame policy for SMI).

Agreed. Sat in the Petty Terrace (1-2) with a great view of the videoboard/leaderboard so I didn't need a scanner. However I believe the center grandstand was cheaper at LVMS.

Similar experience here as we used to have a good sized group attend several races per year from the 80’s until around 2009. It was something we looked forward to and we all had a really good time.

We had a group of 6 that attended EVERY Dover race from the 1990 September race until the June 2004 event. My day and I continued through the 2010 races.

It was cool because we had the same seats year after year. So did a lot if fans at that time. As a result of sitting by the same people each year you built a unique bond with them. It was like a reunion each race. Things are so different now it's crazy. The live experience will never be like it was.

It's not, but it's actually freaking nice to have room/space to sit, parking lots aren't like watching paint dry for 3-4 hours getting out of a race. There's benefits to it not being an absolute 80,000-100,000+ zoo every week like it was.

I was in a group of 18 from Ontario Canada that went to the 500 early 90's A few of the group had bought trailers in a park there and stayed a few months. I would just go for 2 weeks. The one guy bought all 18 tickets after the race each year for the following season. We did have weekend parties at home with about 20-30 people attending an we took turns hosting. It was a fun time.
