What’s Going On At Richard Petty Motorsports?

I think it's about as close as you can get without being officially under the RCR banner - chassis, engineering support, ECR engines - which makes it a mystery as to why they're so much worse off than before. It's not like Roush chassis were blowing people out of the water, although Roush-Yates engines are probably better. But it seems like much more setup and handling than power. Dillon is trending up so far this year, so somewhere on the RPM side they're not doing enough with what they're given.
I wonder if RPM just re-skinned the fords and changed the front clip for the ECR engine, much like they did when they went to Fords.
Good teams are building new (improved chassis) and I think RPM is running used cars from the junk yard.

Pretty sure he was a part of the " drive for diversity " program, that should help keep him in a car.
I wanted to edit that and my ISP lost track of the URL or IP for this site.

I wanted to add that I didn't think Bubba would be handed his walking papers, but that the #43 might evaporate out from under him.

Why would it not be hypothetically possible to buy a roster spot on the Jacksonville Jaguars or the Phoenix Suns? I'm sure there is an acceptable price that some owners wouldn't turn down.
Okay, I'll jump in this end of the pool.

An owner could pay the guy one dollar so he doesn't go against any salary cap. That bribe might even be big enough for the owner to lean on the coach to play the stiff. But I don't know how much it will take to get his teammates to keep the defense from running him over, or to get them to pass him the ball. How long is spoiled Jr. going to enjoy that? The fans are going to figure out pretty quickly that he stinks and wonder why he's there, and the other owners may well take action if they learn what's going on.

But let's tackle this from a NASCAR perspective, because the charter system comes into play. If the only reason a driver gets a seat is because he's buying it, he's going to tear up some hardware and rack up the lousy results. Assuming Momma and Daddy can afford to keep pouring money down the rat hole, three consistently, truly bad seasons and NASCAR will yank the charter. So this leaves Jr. either driving for an unchartered team, or Mom and Dad running an entire team out of their own pocket. That might work as long as the number of teams on the entry list stays below 41. Even then, it's going to be difficult to hire and retain crewmen good enough to crank out cars that an inept driver can get up to minimum speed.

Anybody who's made the money necessary to pull this off long-term will have the business experience to know how and when to pull the plug on a losing venture. Anyone who inherited the money necessary without the skills won't be a long-term problem once they go broke.

Good theory, with supporting history. I'd love to see it confirmed or refuted.

Seems to be a wild over-generalization. Which pro sports? Like tennis or golf or any number of individual athletics, where most modern pros and serious prospects are starting right out of toddlerhood with expensive lessons and training regimens? Other than soccer and perhaps basketball, which have been known for having a low barrier of entry, most team sports require major family investment if one is remotely serious about making a 'career' of it.
Dumbest thing I ever heard. Only sport u can buy a position is nascar.. no matter how much money ur family spend on training if u suck u suck.. stop giving excuses for nascar .. I get sick and tired of all the excuses for nascar don’t compare basketball or football or any other major sport to nascar.. nascar is a car.. all other sports is based on the human 100% percent ! Money can’t buy that..

nascar is a car.. all other sports is based on the human 100% percent !
Inflate-gate. Spit balls and corked bats. Steroided cyclists. Knowing where the floor is warped at Boston Garden. With the possible exception of naked Greco-Roman wrestling, no sport is 100% based on the human. It's just a question of degrees.

Oh, and based on recent arrests, it's possible to buy your kid a slot on a college team.

Clueless smh.. your not buying ur way in no other sport .. half of y’all in here don’t even watch other sports. Knowing where the floor is warped wth does that have to do with buying ur way in a sport? Makes no sense.. only way u can do this mess is in NASCAR! Corked bats smh.. so u mean to tell me berry bonds and mark McGwire and Sammy wasn’t good before that? Yes steroids helped but still good players.. berry bonds GREAT!! Even before that so carry on please.. let me guess Lebron James paid his way into the NBA too haha .. you have to be kidding me with ur logic.. it’s a car.. half y’all seem to not realize it’s the car.... I love watching these powerful cars and the sounds but 95% in today’s nascar 97 -98% is the car.. y’all act like these drivers top tier athletes

No, if you'd read my whole post, my point was that no sport is 100% human effort, as you posted. There are tools and equipment involved, be it cars, bats, hockey sticks, skis, bicycles, balls, fields, courts; most legal, some illegal. Someone is responsible for maintaining that gear, be it the participant or a equipment manager. Somebody somewhere figures how tools are managed affects the competition or there wouldn't be rules regarding them. As I said, it's a question of the degree to which the gear is involved.

As to buying a ride, see my post #84. It may be possible short-term but it's not sustainable.

As to drivers not being top tier athletes, that's another discussion. Football players who are active for 15 minutes a game at best clearly are, as are baseball players who stand in the outfield for hours on end waiting for something to happen.

Please don’t compare nascar players to football players and baseball .. you seem like a smart person lol

Why not? How many football players can navigate Talladega traffic while enduring the temperatures reached in a car for several hours? How many baseball players can hold their heads up and focus their eyes ahead of them after the first several dozen 5-G Bristol turns keep slinging it to the right, with several hundred more ahead? Have any of those spend hours wrestling a 3400 pounds after the power steering went out? Can I assume we don't need to discuss the over-the-wall pit crew, since many of those started as 'athletes' in other sports?

How about you make the case why drivers AREN'T athletes? Start by defining 'athlete', please. Feel free to start a separate topic.

And let's avoid the condescending personal remarks, shall we? They don't help your case. Discuss my posts, not me.

That’s his MO. I’d steer clear of it if I were you. Just say Jimmie Johnson isn’t washed up, he loves that topic. “I told y’all”

So if its a car & all other sports are 100% human skill, Jimmie Johnson isn’t washed up right? The team engineers just havent found speed.

Glad you finally saw the light.

Off topic kind of......Mr. Henry Aaron is the Home Run Champion. I will never accept anything else. He is also a gentleman, and not just an ambassador for baseball, but for all of humanity. Carry on! Miss ya my brother!

Back on topic....You are right. It is completely stupid to compare stick and ball athletes to drivers, and that's what makes NASCAR great. See, if we compare athlete to athlete, we are forced into asking ourselves the question, "Who is the better athlete....Lebron or Jimmie Johnson?" There is no question here. HOWEVER, if we accept our great sport for what it is, we realize that this car you speak of is the great equalizer. Lebron could kick Jimmie's as in just about every test of strength and agility, but when you bring a car into the equation, Jimmie would destroy Lebron. What the hell are we trying to prove by suggesting that our drivers are as good as stick and ball athletes?

BS. @Thegeneral23 is a great guy who happens to have little patiences for this kind of a post. Good dude. Thinks deeply about this stuff, and definitely has an opinion. That's what this place is for.

I said the same thing awhile back? but I add it's about like comparing walking and flying, they are both forms of going from one place to another, but that's about it.

Yeah, but what is stupid is that some don't get that the fact they are so different makes NASCAR that much more awesome. Donnovan McNabb did us a favor, and instead of embracing it, some fans fight it. Accept this great sport for what it is, and quit begging for acceptance. Grrrrrrr.....

It seems to be the fall back for some when everything else fails or an epic fail..compare stick n ball to racing. ;)

If I read your post correct then Fail = comparing stick and ball to racing. Glad I quoted that.

They're different kinds of athletes. Each has worked to develop his body to the condition that best suits what he does.

I thought Bubba would be a top 15 machine in 2018 with the purple Clicklist car. Once he lost that and Smithfield everything seemed to crumble for them. Even before losing them he didn't yield the results I thought he would. What a shining example of how Daytona and Talladega are the great equalizer on equipment.

I'm not as high on his personality as I used to be either, he's been quite dumb and defensive on twitter lately.

I wonder if you could put kurt busch in a petty motor sports car and if he be able to put it in the top 10 every week cause Kurt has work mircles look what he done this year with the 1 car and he also took the 78 team which was a backmarker for years and turn them into a contender.

GOAT miracle worker, if Kurt could do that.

I see your BS and raise it by saying your post is BS. It’s a Toyota/KB thing, you guys stick together.

Yes, it mostly is. One poster decided to use a thread about RPM and Bubba Wallace to do that and 'compare' the two in a way that is unflattering to motorsports, whether he admitted it or not. I and others disputed his unsupported claims. Your "great guy / deep thinker" buddy apparently started reading the thread about 50% in and missed the context. Then he engaged in his own half-assed comparison.

You still never provided any credible evidence of the stark difference you claim exists. At this point without empirical examples, we must conclude that you were just speculating on what is theoretically possible, not observing the actual Cup series as it exists.

But it's okay, you had fun and I had fun kicking the subject around.

I'd like to see Chastain and Wallace switch cars for a few weeks and see the results. That might reveal how much each driver means to each team (I'm not saying either is better than the other, because I really don't know.)

I agree it was fun kicking it around and I respect the opinions of others.

Thanku my brotha! If you don’t agree with them your wrong lol.. I just said you can’t compare the two that’s all.. thanks for having my back

I don't know if swapping between two mediocre cars would tell us much. Putting either one in ... oh, let's say the #42 or the #12.

Dementia is the wall I can't get over but if you can read articles from when Petty switch to Ford you will see that Roush was in the toilet because his computer program for setting the car were junk. RCR had the same problem and spent the money to buy a new one.
One of the articles described how Petty had to cut off all their front clips because the Ford engine
(large oil pan) would not sit down in the car.
Sorry, that's all that is left in the memory bank for today.
