What’s Going On At Richard Petty Motorsports?

BUBBA was at my job the other day with like 30 others lol.. Oh yea I work for Coca-Cola

... if you can read articles from when Petty switch to Ford you will see that Roush was in the toilet because his computer program for setting the car were junk.
I don't remember when that was, but I do remember hearing that Roush's set-up was way out to lunch when the COT came along. Something about a series of 7-post or wind tunnel tests that were set up with the wrong parameters.

Comparison? Of course not. Nobody would compare Tom Brady with LeBron James with Michael Phelps either. Different bodies for different disciplines.

I don't know that I completely agree. I would be willing to bet that Brady, James, and Phelps would all have some degree of proficiency in measures of strength and agility. Many of our drivers....not so much.

Petty's days have been numbered for over 15 years, and I'm surprised they are still around in Cup. My feeling is they should exit from Cup for a few years and start from scratch at the Truck/Xfinity level. Build some sustained success their and then move back to Cup when the time is right.

Richard himself said he isn't a good businessman and I think it is time for him to cut his losses (15+ years overdue). Ignore the Adam tragedy...Kyle should have been running the business since the early 2000's.

Back to the original question, I think what's going on is the same thing that went on with RahMoc, Stavola Brothers, Jacksons, Morgan McClure, and all the others that have ceased operations. They simply cant spend with Penske, Hendrick, Hass and Toyota. Money is speed. There's not enough to go around. Childress is still living off the past. My guess is he's helping RPM out of respect and loyalty. I'd love to see Petty and Childress thrive again. I don't think it's in the cards. Bubba may be a really competitive talent, sadly we may never know.

I just think RCR's problem is the drivers. Austin Dillon is an OK driver, Daniel Hemric has sucked (to be expected), Ty Dillon in the satellite RCR/Germain 13 has ran decent, the 43 has been trending down.

I'd love to see Kurt Busch or Clint Bowyer in an RCR car.

I will disagree with you in one respect and that is Newman seems to be running better in RFR junk than he did in RCR equipment. So is it the cars, teams or drivers??
I doubt the grandson will be the one who turns this outfit around and maybe it would be a good thing if the whole operation was taken over by a new manufacturer. They have everything needed to get into Cup racing including an engine shop. The big question for me is any manufacturer willing to spend like Toyota has???

Changing the flower might not make the bread any better.:rolleyes:
Clint is a support driver for a team where as Kurt is a builder.

Newman is running about the same as he was in the 31 give or take.

Pretty sure Bowyer & Kurt Busch's contracts are up at the end of 2019 so that's why I mentioned them, not that they would accept an RCR ride or not.

BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT the equipment was suppose to be inferior so if he is running the same then the driver is making a bit of difference in his case.
Clint has shown himself to be a team driver only. He can do pretty good with a good car but nothing with a poor car.
IMPO I think they could bring the kid up from Xfinity and do as well with that car.
Unless Tony does not want him.

I've never considered Roush to be inferior to RCR. They're equal & Newman will regress to the mean in the 6 (17th-20th in points). They're essentially both over the hill / out of touch owners with 2nd/3rd rate teams now.

Reading through this made me think of the Wood Brothers. They cut back to run a limited number of races for a few years, then were fortunate enough to hook up with Penske and Blaney , and even ran without a charter. I first thought that maybe Petty could do something similar and run part time, but it seems to me the charter deal these days pretty much nixes that. Sure hope they can find a way to keep it going. It would be a sad day for me seeing RPM run its last Cup race.

I sure have, RCR continues to field front running Xfinity teams, has at least one affiliate Cup team and appears to have all of them with stable sponsors. I personalty think Newman has found more reasons for motivation, as Harvick did when he left RCR. I don't agree with Bubba making excuses even if they are dead on, but compared to what some other drivers say it's pretty mild.

How is it an excuse? Remember during the fall Talladega race RPM did not even have a backup car. RPM is lacking funding big time, he's stating the situation as it is. Being upfront about the situation is refreshing. Its not smelling like roses right now and Bubba knows so. Also, remember when Smithfield left and Petty slandered them after the handshake agreement? That's a bad look for future sponsors to be slandered after spending millions of dollars.

Its a mess and its no secret. I can understand if the car is better, but with being behind with RCR this means lacking money for updates and other goodies for the team.

I wonder how that will work out with not only his team/owners, or more importantly with future employers? Everybody and their little dog knows the shape Petty's team is in.

If FRR closed when 5-Hour left, Petty can close tomorrow. Its bad because they downsized, lost Blickensdurfer to Front Row Motorsports, and has not really been able to secure other primary sponsors. Its a shame because that Click-N'-Close deal had a lot of serious potential. For it just to crumble like it did but it was not meant to be. Murstein has not used a Mediallion scheme and STP is not covering any races as a primary.

Its hard to attract new long-term sponsors and I think its only a matter of time until Murstein pulls the plug on his funding of the team.

RPM is the name of the Race Team, however my understanding is Richard Petty is NOT the owner and in fact is only a public relations stunt.????

Clueless smh.. your not buying ur way in no other sport .. half of y’all in here don’t even watch other sports. Knowing where the floor is warped wth does that have to do with buying ur way in a sport? Makes no sense.. only way u can do this mess is in NASCAR! Corked bats smh.. so u mean to tell me berry bonds and mark McGwire and Sammy wasn’t good before that? Yes steroids helped but still good players.. berry bonds GREAT!! Even before that so carry on please.. let me guess Lebron James paid his way into the NBA too haha .. you have to be kidding me with ur logic.. it’s a car.. half y’all seem to not realize it’s the car.... I love watching these powerful cars and the sounds but 95% in today’s nascar 97 -98% is the car.. y’all act like these drivers top tier athletes
You clearly dont know what you are talking about. That car is useless without the driver, the driver is the key ingredient.

It is either a very quiet news week or a lot is being made of the potential demise of an underfunded team.

What I’d really rather you do is take a disadvantaged youth and give him the time of his life. Better still take a group of them as you would love it too.
Thanks for the suggestion but I've take many people, young and old over the years and will continue to do so.

Graceful exits can be difficult affairs --

especially in professional sports...

I think a MUCH better use of Richard Petty's (and a few other guys) time and effort would be for them to be employed by NASCAR as ambassadors for the sport, and have them do fan and potential fan outreach both on and off the track. Since Richard went back to team ownership in 1986, he has done FAR more harm to legacy than he has ever gained by continuing on. Junior Johnson was smart enough to just walk away and move on with his life, when his team could no longer run up to his standards.

NASCAR should pay Bobby Allison back pay for the years he's put in coming to the track and making appearances.

Absolutely. Bobby as an active Cup driver ran more local Saturday night 200 lappers in the 70s through the mid 80s than anyone else. At least thats my recollection and l would be stunned if proven wrong.

I remember Bobby running a 200 lapper at GPS around 1980. He broke something in the rear end and they spent about 40 laps on jackstands welding it together. He could have just called it a night but he put it back on the track. He had to know that the people wanted to see him driving.
Butch Lindley didnt win the race, he blew an engine or something late in the race, he had at least two laps on every one at the time.
Bobby saved the show, he returned and battled Lindley intensely as if they were actually fighting for the lead. Watching two great drivers running door to door and trading positions is always just beyond words great, especially on a worn short track . It made me wake up on Sunday mornings and counting the hours to Saturday nights.
That was routine Bobby. If there was a guy that could build it, drive it, and rebuild it again on Monday it had to be him.

Petty the ambassador King.
Bobby Allison the blue collar ambassador.
I write this as a Petty loyalist through the years. But l have to say Bobby did a lot of great ambassador work too, it just did not get as much ink or coverage. I refer to him as the blue collar guy because that is what l related too or the lasting impression I got.
