I'm here now but won't be here for the race.:( I did have a lot of fun driving the simulator at the NASCAR HOF yesterday.:)
One of the highlights to my visit to Charlotte was the simulator at the mall. That is soooo kewl. :punkrocke

Looking forward to the changes to the cars and their impact. Love the experimental nature of this race. Any idea what the hood will look like with these radiator ducts?

So who do you all think wins the open stages and who gets the fan vote?
I think Larson, Bowman, Suarez win stages and Dibenedetto is the fan vote.

Here is the format for the 2019 race that will build on the excitement of last year.

Rules for eligibility for the Monster Energy All-Star Race:

  • Drivers who have won a points event in either 2018 or 2019 are eligible, as are drivers who have won a previous Monster Energy All-Star Race and compete full time.
  • Drivers who have won a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship and compete full time also are eligible for the event.
  • Three drivers will join the field by winning one of three stages in the Monster Energy Open (held prior to the Monster Energy All-Star Race)
  • One driver will also be added to the field by winning the Fan Vote.
Open format (20 laps/20 laps/10 laps)

All Star format (30 laps/20 laps/20 laps/10 laps)

Kids' tickets in ALL Grandstands start at just $10 for children ages 13 and under.

In the first sentence of my post click on "format". That format from the same source (Charlotte Motor Speedway) gives it as (30/20/20/15). They're contradicting themselves. Which is it? Damned if I know and I haven't been able to find out.

The 15 that's locked into the race.

I'm pretty sure it's 15. I recall reading they added another 5 this year.

Wish they had eliminations and/or alternated this race among the other Charlotte race tracks: Roval, Speedway, Legends or Dirt Track

The fans with motorhomes and camping trailers have been parking all day today. I didn't realize they would arrive so early in the week. I sure would like to be here the week the World of Outlaws and the 600 is here. That would be a fun week to be here.

Not sure how I feel about Martinsville for an all-star race. You'd have to make it at least 200-300 laps for it to be interesting.

I'll say this, the All-Star Qualifying wouldn't be the same if they were running at a short track. It's about the coolest part of the weekend and that would lose its luster if they tried it somewhere else they already go. They'd have to run somewhere different like Nashville for it to be worth it IMO.

I think the All Star race is right where it belongs, in the middle of NASCAR's home town.
STICK AND BALL ALERT.

If NASCAR insists on having an All-Star event like other sports, then they might as well move it between all the participating venues like the other do.

I think moving an event every year is confusing and makes it difficult to plan when to go to this event. But, that's just me.
If it never moves, there are lots of fans who won’t ever be able to attend if they can’t afford to travel to Charlotte. The rotation schedules are usually announced several years in advance. The schedule wouldn’t be half as confusing as the annual format changes.

Every year during the All Star race night, just after they announce the winner of the fan vote, they could then announce the next year's track to hold it. That gives everyone a year to plan a trip. If a year isn't enough notice, I don't know how you'd ever plan anything.

You have a point, however, some people like to spend a week's vacation in the area. Go for the All Star, spend the week touring shops and riding the go karts, etc., wrap it up with the 600. It is great for the fans and for the area.

Similar arguments could be made about many places. Indeed, having other things to do besides racing stuff would make a trip more appealing to those sacrilegious, infidel family members who (shudder) don't care about racing. Las Vegas, for example.

I'd move it to new venues... Road America or Montreal or Eldora or Gateway/St. Louis... places that would create a buzz of excitement for a cup race. The crazy format Charlotte uses for the All Star is proof that Charlotte is over-saturated, IMO.

Either that, or I'd kill it forever and put a permanent points-paying race at one of those new places.

Go to a short track (quarter-mile to half-mile) where running 40 cars and having a functional pit road wouldn't work (and aren't needed since it's all-star). Bring in some temporary bleachers to get seating up to 15k. Run 100 laps and caution laps don't count. The event would sell-out the day tickets go on sale, it'd be the highest rated all-star race in a loooong time, the drivers/media/fans would all be excited, and one of the many many "bullring" tracks that are the back-bone of American oval-track racing get one night of national exposure.

Harnessing my inner @AndyMarquisLive for this post :D.

My vote, get rid of it and run a points paying race, end the season a week earlier.

Yep Charlotte is oversaturated. Having 2 weekends a year is more than enough.

Rotating this race every year would create a lot of buzz.

Move the All-Star race to the Saturday Night before the playoffs start or something and run a race this weekend in it's slot.

Recently Nascar has been using the All Star race as a million dollar to win test race. They have plenty of data about the track, most of the R&D is close by, so let's test under racing conditions with a large field of cars. The Roval took some of the heat off of so many races at the track, and it's the home area of most of the Nascar teams by the way. That's probably pretty popular with drivers, crews, and other support personnel in the sport to have some home time.
