Saw his most recent tweet thread.

That's aweful. Brave of him to come forth with his struggles. I can't imagine what it's like for him to receive death threats and suicide encouragement. He's been clinically treated for his mental health, these threats probably hit harder for him than they would for us

And just want to add.. I've worked in the mental health field for some time, I understand how symptomatic someone needs to be for medication and I understand how symptomatic someone has to be for psychiatric hospitalization, whether it's inpatient, partial, or even outpatient.

So for Cody to go the race track every week, and have a successful career with the symptoms he has, he's a ******* hero to the mental health community. And he should know this.

Cody had said some slick **** about Matt D cheating on his wife. I think that's what set folks off, but to send death threats is beyond unnecessary. Cody may not be the best driver, but still should be treated with respect like any other driver. We make mistakes in things we post sometimes, but that's just social media and its make-up. Sickos claiming to want to kill him are sick in the head themselves. Leave the man be and I'm sorry to hear about his mental health issues. Its really cool to know even through all of it, he still gives it all he can. That's what counts at the end.

Unfortunately, that's how social media has come to work. People hide behind their anonymity and isolation, saying things they wouldn't dare say to someone's face. It's one of the reasons I'm only active on two forums, neither of them associated with any of the 'big name' services.

Being a participant in a sponsorship-driven sport has come to require participating on line. Drivers, crew chiefs, etc. can't avoid it. Dale Jr. was the only major racing personality who was able to get away with holding out as long as he did.

Twitter is a cesspool and so is Instagram. So many celebrities and people of profile have gotten completely off of social media because it's a ****** cancer.

Cody Ware talked all sorts of **** about Matt DiBenedetto. So he doesn't really get to claim any moral high ground here.

The approval process for racing in Cup needs to be stricter. Having money or being the son of a team owner should not be enough reason to land a Cup ride. I don't really mean this as a shot at Cody Ware either. The entire business model in NASCAR needs to change because it's literally not working.

I hope this man gets some help that he needs whether its from friends, family or medical.

Although I draw the line at the broad brush stroke of lumping “all nascar fans” as the absolute worst when the loud minority are screeching.

People who are mentally ill say a lot of things they shouldn't. It's the illness. This isn't about him taking the morally high ground, it's about someone with mental illness serving as a role model to those with depression who struggle to get out of bed here.

FWIW, someone talking "****" to someone else because he can't cope with himself is FAR less significant than someone who has tried to take his own life being clinically diagnosed (which I assume he has been) with depression receiving death threats and encouragement of suicide. Totally different.

Ware’s personal issues are very unfortunate.

His public comments about his fellow competitor are inexcusable.

Somebody should kick his ass for that.

not excusable. But normalized. And this is why people like Cody should continue to advocate for mental illness.

I had a client say some nasty things to me the other day, very nasty things. I'm thinking, "you little ****, don't talk to me like that".. but it gets compartmentalized. Some mental illnesses have a physiological effect on the brain which can impact cognitive behavior, and as a result, verbal behavior. Sometimes, that's just what it is. Dont think it warrents someone getting his ass kicked.

It's not as simple as just being a dick. A LOT of people don't get this.

If he is on the meds he seems to have to be on, how does Nascar even let him in the car to race?

Who is Cody Ware anyway? I must have been asleep.
Very good points.

I'd imagine it's because of prescriptions. Also, he's probably on medications with no clinical side effects. Well, that have no impairment side effects..

I appreciate your educated / experienced response.

Plenty of everyday people have mental illness yet still function and go through their days without trying to get sympathy on social media. They are the real heroes

Not making fun of people with mental illness but I think people don’t need to broadcast every personal problem they have for everyone to see. In my opinion that’s just trying to get attention

The only thing I could say to ANYONE using those types of social media outlets, ‘keep it vague’

Just keep it vague.

My only input is that if you have any sort of mental illness AND you take offense to the hurtful things that people say, staying away from social media is an absolute must. I have had many hurtful things said to me on social media, but to my knowledge I haven't had one person in public stop what they are doing just to insult me. In the real world, that just doesn't happen once you are out of school.

The big picture and paramount issue.

The social media was made to enjoy hawt wimmins, that have gymnastic yoga type skills.
Without hawt wimmins nothing else matters.
The reason MTV, VH1, and CMT became less relevant is because they do less videos with hawt wimmins.

History is going to judge F1 for getting rid of the grid girls. It is inescapable. Full grandstands in nascar was proportional to scantily clad trophy queens.
While fully clothed trophy queens will result in empty stands.

Cody Ware wouldn't have suffered as much on social media if his attackers would have had better priorities.

I dunno about your supporting position but I agree completely with your final conclusion.

I agree 100%. Social media is a cesspool, and I REALLY have to questions the motives of people that want to put their whole life out there for the world to see. Most of it just ends up being narcissistic and or self serving.
