Utter poked the bear and messed up

How large is 'large'? Are we talking in global terms, or in comparison to other English-speaking sports commentary web sites?

#6 largest podcaster in America and have 7 million listeners a month.

Honestly love the Fore Play(Golf) one, Pardon My Take, and have big hopes for Rubbin is Racing with Bowyer and Portnoy. Their schtick is basically Sportscenter in the 90s with cursing. But that laid back, joking style gets athletes to be super candid with them. I’ve been a big fan

Funny when Harvick criticized Jenna fryer either last year or 2 years ago people loved it but barstool calls out utter and omg how awful

No, I meant to convey that you're good people, and it is thus unfortunate that Barstool attracts such trash.
Got you. I honestly had to reread a few times. I figured you wouldn’t go there on me, I’ve always had pleasant interactions in the past. I don’t know much of Barstool’s fan base guess I should read the responses to Utter, but like I said in previous posts I just watch Dave’s pizza reviews.

Harvick has a status unattainable by Mr. Portnoy or any of his “associates”.

Did Ms. Fryer unleash a pack of keyboard jackals to hurl vitriolic bile at anything with a pulse after she was verbally assaulted by Kevin Harvick?

You all need to relax. Lol Barstool is great because they mess with people, it’s nothing to take serious. That’s why when other media members are super critical of them, they look like morons.

The memes they did about Jim Utter on Vindog’s account were hilarious. One was of WWE with Jim getting the chair

He deserves it. He called them “misogynistic and lewd assholes”. Jim Utter went immediately to the weird Joey Logano question being a “stupid barstool thing”.

I don’t want to hear all this crying when these people openly attacked Barstool on Twitter and then are complaining about the mob. That’s like me yelling the Dallas Cowboys suck outside of the stadium and then complaining they hurled insults at me

Look, I've had very heated arguments with both Jim and Matt. I've had very very heated arguments with Matt. I know they've both made enemies because they're very outspoken about the sport, but that's because they're passionate.

I know what Matt Weaver sacrifices for this sport. If he had his choice, he'd spend every single weekend at a short track somewhere -- all 52 of them. He lives and breathes racing. He's slept in a 20-year-old pickup truck before in order to go to Daytona or cover a big short track race somewhere. He's crashed on my couch before in between races.

The venom being spewed at one of auto racing's biggest advocates is disgusting. Yes, he's a real-time journalist who has sometimes provided information where the context was not known or information that may have been unfavorable to certain drivers during a developing situation. Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo. Multiple media outlets reported inaccurate information during the rapidly developing events of 9/11, and Hurricane Katrina, and the recession, and the Boston Marathon bombings, and Sandy Hook, and so on. **** happens.

That said, Barstool Sports does have a pretty awful history in terms of being lewd and borderline misogynist. When cyberbullying becomes the norm, I'm not okay with it.

Ever heard of a Kiwi?
Oh yeah, both the bird itself and as a nickname. Notable for unusual feathers, evolutionary flightlessness, and having the highest ratio for egg size to body mass. Birders hope the country is successful at running all the invasive predators out, to benefit all of NZ's threatened endemics.

Alanis King is another name I hadn't encountered before this discussion. At the risk of shredding what's left of my naivete, is she another supposedly high profile globally recognized icon? 25 words or less, if possible, please.

Yes, we have many flightless birds because there no predators prior to colonization.

On second thought, don’t bother. I’ve reached a couple of conclusions.
  1. This has nothing to do with racing.
  2. This is another social media kerfluffle that, as @ChexOrWrex pointed out, only 2.5% of Americans are aware of (est. 8 million listeners out of an est. 320 million population).
This has been mildly entertaining and informative, but it sounds like if a bear was poked, it’s one from a Build-A-Bear workshop.

Thanks. “I hope you have a good race weekend.”

How do you feel about Clint being a Regular on the show?

I already swore I wasn't going there.

From what I can tell by the context here, a 'traditional' reporter made an off-handed reference to a 'social media influencer'. That upset the SMI, who passed his unhappiness along to his / her influencees. Since all this is happening on the Internet, the basement-dwelling portion of the influencees has taken their umbrage on line. As is usual with the web, that umbrage is being expressed in the most vulgar and violent of ways.

How'd I'd do?
Perfect You aced it

P.S. I have Followed and Unfollowed Jim Utter on twitter so many times I've lost count. I never heard of Barstool. I have no dog in this fight. But, I'm agreeing the internet has become a cesspool that I would rather do without.
Nah, it just requires selectivity on what you do. In that respect, it's not much different from cable TV. There are some channels that are pretty good, and some that are LifeTime Movies and E!

Barstool fans will claim up and down that the years of accusations that the company promotes harassment in public and private are all untrue. Curiously, they are also extremely sensitive as to what constitutes an "attack" by a critic.

The new owners, who want to build a sports gambling empire using the Barstool brand, keep pledging that they intend to end all of this harassment that doesn't exist.

Yes, like this place is good. Still, I know it has a toilet. I just don't go there.

The Barstool people, like Dave are those college frat boys who never grew up, still living the college life in their 40's and I would guess their website appeals to current college kids. Being 35 I dont know what appeals to 20 year olds and dont claim to know. I just find the guy's reviews on pizza hilarious and thats all I really know about it. I never even have been on the website, just Dave's Youtube Channel and listened to his racing podcast a few times. I probably would have frequented the website and been a bigger fan if I knew Barstool existed when I was in college (03-08) but even though it was around had no idea. Would I be a fan now? Not sure I am sure with Twitter the way it is now I would have found my way over to take a gander at the site

I don't really have an opinion on that.

Yeah, Bowyer, Hamlin, and other drivers who have appeared on Barstool shows aren't the problem here. They aren't going to direct their Twitter followers to harass a reporter who writes a negative article.

If Barstool and Portnoy value their relationship with NASCAR at all beyond the payment they are receiving (questionable), they will be more likely to temper their behavior if they have mutually beneficial relationships with people in the garage.

What is a podcast?
21st Century term for a audio file, usually dedicated to a specific topic, with new content released on a semi-regular basis. Think of it as a radio show you can download and play at your convenience. In fact, some conventional radio shows release their recorded broadcasts as podcasts a couple of days after the original air dates.

I like the podcast he has with Bowyer and a lot of Barstool's individual content creators are very entertaining to me. They got a guy who's their "foreign correspondent" who does international travel videos, and a duo that makes satirical documentaries and films absurd stuff from celebrations after teams with championships. I'm not big on their overarching "brand" and the "wars" they get in and wouldn't wear their logo on a jacket or shirt like I've seen some people do, but they have some very talented people working under their umbrella. Some are far better than others IMO.

I also think their partnership with NASCAR is positive for both sides and it seems they have a genuine interest in it. A lot of NASCAR's young audience aligns well with the frat bro demographic they really strike so the partnership makes sense to me.

was the guy that was asking the weird questions to Logano on Sunday, was he even with Barstool?

Dude stop. I mean come on these people WENT AFTER BARSTOOL FIRST. You can’t complain about cyber bullying when someone else started the name calling first. It’s like a little sibling complaining their big brother was being mean after they called them an a**hole. Lol of course something went down, you intentionally provoked them.

Then these same reporters use the Barstool response that they provoked to write stories about how bad Barstool is in an attempt to be profound and morally superior.
