IMSA 2020

As poor as the circumstances are, it’s good that new leadership at both NASCAR and IndyCar have used this as a catalyst to get their gaming programs up and running. NASCAR was already ahead of the curve on this.

No doubt mid season could have been a disaster, but now they have time to get organized. Hard to believe Muttlymatic are going to do a better job than Joest, but I've been wrong before.
Most of the Mazda program has been run with Multimatic leading the way for a while now. Joest have been getting phased out for over a year and this was just a formality. Mazda had to let them know six months in advance of any formal break and they were notified sometime around Laguna last season.

I still don't understand why Madza wanted to dump Joest just as the program was coming together. Everyone knew the first year was going to be a waste, and in the second they start winning. It's working. Leave it alone.

Well, here's something to think about. Rebellion was going to run Peugeot's WEC program, but suddenly dropped out of the sport completely. This leaves Peugeot without a team, and Joest without a car. What are the odds those two hook up?

Would be a pretty huge week at IMS. The IndyCar race was already adding to the Indianapolis 8 Hour event and three other SRO America series. But in the press release they did say the schedule would include track activity Wednesday through Sunday.

Lime Rock and Watkins Glen move to October, sprint races at Daytona and Sebring added to July, Mosport cancelled.

I guess we’ll see how this goes but I think there are going to be a lot of issues with international travel. Obviously many in the IMSA paddock reside outside of the U.S.

Mosport might be lucky to get any type of action there this year. Especially, with the travel ban there and Watkins Glen might be the road course replacement for the truck series. (Rumors, I have to find a source for that.)

Unfortunate as hell, but the schedule looks good and from a logistical standpoint it looks solid.

I would have preferred losing Lime Rock over Mosport but that's the way the international border crossing bounces.

The Mosport Truck race is one of the high points of the season, to me even more anticipated than Eldora.

It's a great race, for sure.

I'd like at least one more road course on the schedule. I'd like to see the truck series be a support race to IndyCar in Portland, it would be a great addition to add it back on the schedule. Or Watkins Glen. I've always like these quirky races the series has.

I see the same thing coming for the Honda Indy Toronto too. They just cancelled The Ex at Exhibition Place and with the international aspect I just can’t see it happening.

I like how the schedule shapes up so far too, I hope it comes to fruition. I’m not sure if it’s at night but it’s cool to have a bit of a throwback to the Paul Revere 250 and I don't think Sebring has had a sprint race since the late 90’s - so not anything I was around to see. They have potential to be thrillers.

well this is awesome. Will it be a 24 hour race? Im sorry im working and cant read

Was hoping for fans so I could head over for that one. I'm starting to think the August cup race could be in jeopardy of not hosting fans now.

Standard “sprint” length of 2:40. I hope they run it at night after the Xfinity and IndyCar races at IMS; would be a big day across the NBC networks.

That’s a pretty reasonable possibility, especially with how big of a crowd the 400 would draw. A lot can happen in over three months but closed-door sporting events will probably be the standard for some time. And with how well the TV contract pays it’s really less imperative for NASCAR to welcome fans back than it is for a series like IndyCar or IMSA.

Good interview with John Doonan. IMSA is evaluating allowing fans in attendance, with strict guidelines, for the July 4th Daytona race.

This might be the dagger for GTLM. Ultimately I think they’ll wind up turning it into a pro GT3 class. Corvette build a new car only for the class to fall apart..

**** 2020.

What about CORE Autosports? Dude, this is not good at all. All the momentum IMSA has built the past couple of years for this to happen. **** sakes man...

Plans still TBD for CORE.

I am hopeful that they are just big on LMDh - they were the first to announce a formal program evaluation - and with the economics involved figured it would be best to cut one program ASAP instead of run two together. But I suppose we’ll see. Otherwise...ouch.

I wonder if Volkswagen had something to do with it since they wanted to get out of internal combustion engine racing series altogether, I would be crushed to find out if they are trying make Porsche fall in line...

I think the people at Porsche, and their devout customers and fans, would rather fall over dead before that happens. The big VW brands have a pretty fair degree of autonomy, and Porsche may have the most. They’re dipping their toes into electric stuff but I can’t say them going all-electric anytime soon at least.

Lets hope so.

This has literally left a knot in my stomach. I guess GT3 will be the direction, it will be cheaper for manufacturers, but it still doesn't make this suck any less. Between Chevy and Porsche, they are like the last of the breed. You could add Aston, but they are so inconsistent at times. Looks like Ford dropped at the right time.

Good news is that the C8.R reportedly can be adapted to GT3 spec rather easily. Aston Martin and Ferrari already have cars that are interchangeable between GTE and GT3 spec. BMW's M6 was as well, not sure what their plans for the 2022 M4 were. I think it should be pretty doable, base GT3 car gets BoP'd to a higher power level for the Pro cars, maybe with confidential tires as is the case with Michelin now. And keep the ABS disabled.

I just dont want the car count to drop off sharply. Lose a few, gain a few, merge a little etc. Just need 38 - 45 for a good show.

Damn on that Porsche news. Those GTLMs are the coolest race cars I’ve ever seen live. Nothing beats that Porsche sound
