Bristol RACE thread

I pointed out this issue in 2017 when the system was announced. They don't matter more than winning, but collectively they matter more than the finish for all other positions. Points as they've always been understood are fully broken.

Math is still not a strong suit. I'm not even very adept at it, and I saw it.
For instance:

Kevin Harvick finished P11 with 39 points. He scored more points than Jimmie Johnson who finished P3. Hell, Elliott ended up P22 and tied Jimmie for points.

Chase might as well have finished P3 today.

4th in points after Charlotte, Maybe you are forgetting he won a race? At any rate, he is going to drop after Bristol
You responded to the comment where I acknowledged his win. Come on StandOnIt..read ;)

I'm just shocked that we have a points system where one of the top drivers in the standings only has two top 10 finishes in 9 starts.

The concept is to reward drivers for racing hard the whole race. Opinions are widespread. I can't follow the points in my head anymore is my bitch. Then again at Bristol the end of the second stage had some very hard racing. So it looks good on TV.

besides forgetting the win, Bowman also has two top 5's speaking about reading.

Folks..Alex Bowman leads (or was leading) the series in stage wins. Top 5 in points+++ Alex never has led the points

He has ONE top 10 finish outside of his win. One. ++++nope again. He has 1 win 2 top 5's and not one but 2 top tens and 6 top 20's

This was a heck of a race. That said, I don't understand why nascar didn't throw the yellow. That decision is baffling. Two cars hard in the wall. They've thrown cautions for much lesser things.

Elliott didn't lose a place wrecking out, neither did Logano and Hamlin gained a spot.

The rookie points are interesting. Reddick leads with 186 and Bell and Custer are almost tied 139 to 140 with Nemo in the middle at 165

Definitely a dnf is going drop him a spot or two...but after a couple of good races I think he will be right back up front again. The 9 and 88 teams have made their share of mistakes this year but once they stop making so many mistakes they will be very tough to beat.

Wow, Bowman and Elliott are still in the top 5. I figured with a dnf Bowman would have fallen further back. He is in a much better position then I thought he would be. Now HMS has to put these bad races behind them and go win a championship.

Kez got another gift - it must be his birthday. Chase did a Kyle.

I think with no practice we are seeing how driver/crew chief communications are working.

Yeah they are still top 5 drivers, helped a bunch that Harvick and Logano didn't have good days. Bowman got taken out, and around the same time he was telling his pit that the clutch pedal fell off.

Imagine Chase Elliot was leading with 2 laps to go, ended up losing the lead then and Brad Keselowski won. Now imagine that happening twice!

“What if I told you...” *30 for 30 music intensifies*

One top 10 finish outside of his win is what I said. Which was a top 5 finish. Bowman has a win, and a top 5 finish. That is 1 win, 2 top 5s and 2 top 10s. Get it?

I said he was leading in stage wins. Most stage wins. Never said he lead the standings.

StandOnIt, you know a win counts as a top 5 and a top 10 on the stat line, right? A 2 top 5 and 1 top 10 stat line isn't possible. Top 5s count as top 5s and top 10s.

Bowman has a win at Autoclub and a 2nd at Darlington. That first and second counts as two top 5s and two top 10s. What I said is 100% accurate lol

Not this time. Chase made a poor decision
I disagree. I disagree with everyone. It wasn't a decision. He lost control. The rear end swung up the track into Joey. It was not intentional.

He gave Joey a tap several times before then...

Agree with Pat.

You don't "decide" to overdrive the car at a critical moment during the race. You just do it and then you kick your own ass for a week.
He decided to keep that right foot planted a little longer then he wanted.

Yep. Chase sent it and it didn't stick.
This. Watching live, I fully expected Joey to get sent up the track and chase scoot through, then deal with fallout. Turns out Chase went too. We’ve seen that move a thousand times, this time it didn’t work and was too much. If you recall, the 22 did the same thing under Chase in turns 1 and 2 earlier in the race and it only resulted in a small bit of sheet metal damage. (And I acknowledge Joey’s slip earlier was a slip, not a “lick that stamp and send it!”)

Kenseth with practice will be dangerous IMO.
Race turned bad for the 42....started towards the middle of stage 2 when the crew put the left side tires on the right side by accident...almost got lapped before they could rectify it. Then they under adjusted to get rid of an overly loose condition...so with the now proper tires the car started to get all messed up as the balance turned to cow manure. Then a hit in the right rear quarter panel took away what little was keeping the rear end under the car...eventually causing Kenseth to lose a lap...he gets back on the lead lap and the crew forgets that he is pitting and at the same time Kenseth drives three pit stalls down because no one is expecting him....go figure. He was lucky to finish 16th.

Chase Elliot is young, so maybe he got a little excited towards the end & flat out missed the corner on accident. It can happen to anyone.

Okay but when Joey went up to him he said "well you've done it before" .. that's not cool imo.. I would have slapped him silly lol
