Not a hate crime....

The rope appears to be of a larger diameter than other "door pulls" that have been pictured in the Talladega garages.
yeah Nascar photoshopped the background with the rain, Dega, hauler and all..better yet the FBI doctored it from out at area 51

I can. His job includes crisis management.

Mr. Phelps is running a billion dollar entertainment operation with a PR department presumably staffed with educated, trained professionals. He was very poorly advised by those people or he chose to make his announcement in the absence of their counsel. What's left is a PR disaster on an international scale. Inexcusable.

That's a valid judgment, and I can't dismiss it. Being a decent and caring human, which I believe Phelps is, and performing as a top executive of a multi-billion dollar corporation are two different roles.

In Bubba Wallace's CNN interview, he described in detail the scene in which Phelps informed him of the situation Sunday evening. Bubba described a man overcome by intense emotion. This is an understandable reaction from Phelps the person. Phelps the executive should have recognized the need to make official decisions and statements in a more careful and considered manner.

He owned this failure today enough for me, given the polarized environment. I can understand why it might be enough for some well meaning people. I do not think his error is indicative of his incompetence, nor do I believe that a sort of ritualized firing / resignation would be helpful.

I can see it now, 20 years from now some ol crusty geezer will be saying, I can remember back in 20 when Nascar hung a noose in the garage of Bubba Wallace..big cover up by the FBI and from then on Nascar is going down hill and they aren't going to make it another year.

What if someone slipped and fell on an oil slick and injured themself? If ifs and buts were candy and nuts we’d have a merry christmas.

All the other pulls are straight strings or loops. It takes conscious effort to tie a garage string into a noose, and who else but a racist would do that?
Are you serious? Nooses are a tool first and foremost. Just because it developed a use as a hangman’s knot does not mean it’s only used as a hangman’s knot from here on out. If someone sees a noose and immediately jumps to a racist conclusion without considering other innocent reasons, I feel bad for them.

Holding packages, roping animals after a hunt, a carrying device, etc.. it’s a secure slip and grip tool for anything. NASCAR is full of former athletes who came from humble beginnings, many of which started off on farms or in the countryside. Those families teach knots, firearms and harvesting at an elementary age.

WHY it was here nobody knows. But it was proven not to be used for intimidation and to perpetuate that it was *at some time* is demanding racism where it actually isn’t.

2 days to produce a picture that could calm things down in 2 seconds when you're getting eviscerated on all channels.

Just another drop in the bucket for the NASCAR executives.

My last reply to this, I just listened to the teleconference, Phelps was asked if it was a working noose and he admitted he didn't know, he never saw it in person only in the pic they posted, are you kidding me? So know one knows if it actually was a noose and not just a knot that looks like one and I would think in the climate of whats going on they would want to know if this thing was real or not, anyway Texaslady is right time to move on, peace out.

A slip knot , AKA noose, is commonly used every day throughout this country with no racial implications. I can understand how it's intentions were mistaken. But now that we know it's been there for some time, acting like it's still racist is just being silly. Digging for racism that isn't there will only further drive a wedge through this country. I'm very afraid of what's going to happen when the majority in this country become tired of being falsely accused and decide to fight back.

Occam’s Razor: The simplest explanation is usually the right one. Why was the loop tied in that manner? Because someone wanted a loop in the garage door pull rope and that was how he tied it. Other photos from garages for several years have similar loops. Those surveyed by NASCAR found 11 knots on ropes.
Simple explanation.

The rope in the most recent pic appears to be larger in diameter than other pics of pull ropes attached to Talladega garage doors. I made that observation and posted it. I had an eye exam on Monday and my new glasses will arrive in a few days. I’ll take another look then.

Area 51 ...isn’t that your postal code?

“The FBI will get to the bottom of it. Just trust them.”

FBI: It is a noose...

“I TOLD YOU”

FBI: A non-functioning noose...

“STILL A NOOSE THOUGH!!”

FBI: Being used as a garage door pull and no hate crime was committed.

“SSSHHHH NOOOO NOT THAT PART!”

If we are to believe the FBI, we have to believe everything they report, not just what you want to hear.

you need some serious help bud, but keep digging

Ray Charles can see that that's a misleading close up shot of a small rope used to close the garage door. It wasn't evil and racist in October of 2019, and why was there no show of unity for Paul Menard if it is truly a hate crime? The gaslighting has reached extreme levels

The knot is the problem

and some don't know the difference between their Knots and a hole in the ground  But keep digging

Is that not more reason to call "WTF" on the fact that it's there in the first place? Who goes out of their way to tie a hangman's knot into a small rope that has no function?

That lends legitimacy to the idea that somebody came by and tied the knot as a symbol. Not to threaten Bubba, but just being a racist moron who thinks it'd be fun to make the door pull look like a noose.

"Don't worry, folks, it's not a "functioning" cross, no nails, cross bar not supported, blah, blah, blah. Nothing to see here, move along, move along..."

Just like everyone's a medical expert about covid now everyone's a knot expert.

The simple and only answer for me is that NASCAR should have kept this under wraps until the investigation was over. This whole thing could have been easily avoided. That's on them.

Going on don lemon and the view is what crossed the line for me.

What crossed the line for me is when #BubbaSmollett became a top trending hashtag and meme across social media.

I don't watch "The View", but you'll have to fill me in on what he said to the gals that could compare to what has been said about him with regularity.

There has been rightful indignation to how this event unfolded.

Obviously some awful people say some awful things with the anonymity of social media.

Do you think the people who made “Bubba hanging around.” Jokes are helpful? Cause I mean seems to me that’s worse.
I haven't heard or read any of those comments. But obviously not.

Stop trying to defend stupidity.

this has been round and round. How are you going to carry on an investigation without anybody knowing about it? Can ya tell me how they interview anybody involved and keep it "under wraps" , nonsense, they went transparent, didn't try to sweep it under the rug. A life could have been at stake. One who could have possibly been on the premises.

You have an internal investigation and you don't release a statement until you know what it actually was and you especially don't release a statement like they did proclaiming what they thought it was when they really had no idea.

It's really not that difficult, especially for people who are paid very well to run a professional organization.

ya got your so called facts twisted again. It was a one day show, cars weren't in the garage unless they failed inspection..there wereN't hundreds of people milling around. I guess if you have your head up your ass you would think there was no problem having a noose in the garage.

1) The noose was there LAST FALL when there WERE hundreds in the garage area, and almost nobody noticed it or thought enough about it do something about it or at least SAY something about it. Heck, it MAY have been there a lot longer than THAT.

2) SOMEBODY opened that garage up when the cars were unloaded last weekend. NASCAR official, track employee, team crewman? Whoever opened that door would have been completely blind to not see the pull rope, yet NOBODY said a word. Must not have been have even crossed their mind that there might be a problem.

3) If I see a noose hanging conspicuously serving no valid purpose, yeah I would DEFINITELY think there was some sort of problem. If I see a noose hiding in a corner serving an actual function, I don't think ANYTHING about it., in fact I probably marvel at someones rope tying ability, because I suck at it. I have to look at drawings to do most of the fancy knots.

4) There are people in this world who are hung up on reading some hidden meaning into every little thing that is said and done. I find those people positively exhausting.
