Kyle Larson Appreciation Thread

I have no lost love for Hendrick. Hendrick was on house arrest for collusion and price fixing, somehow he got sick at that very moment he was found gillity and as soon as the house arrest was over, he was miraculously healed.

My interest is in Kyle Larson, period.
 
110 points behind, sitting in third. If only he was able to race at Dega instead of that silly engine issue he might be closer
 
It’s basically June. Long way to November. Anything could happen. HMS could easily have 15 wins this season and not even be in the race at Homestead.

Hamlin doesn’t even have a win and he has a 100 point lead. The Cup goes through that team right now. Anything can happen.

I am talking performance...and eventually the points and everything will sort itself out. Kyle Larson has been under appreciated for how good he as been. Denny and Kyle heads up....It's not that close IMO.

For all the talk about second place Larson, Hamlin still has more top 5s than anyone else and only has a single finish outside of the top 15.

Larson has 5 finishes outside of the top 15.

The #11 team is dangerously consistent. The #5 team is feast or famine.
 
You don't win the championship Kenseth-ing. Hamlin will probably win one and we will be having a different conversation or he could be shut out because of enough different winners. Points don't matter as much when it is much better to win like Larson and all of the Hendrick cars have and your in. Knaus is competition director, Fugle is working with the crew chiefs, and Larson is at the wheel. Anybody that thinks Hendrick hasn't improved recently has their head stuck in the sand and they are eating just fine over at the Hendrick shop.

Larson is faster than Hamlin. He only needs to be consistent enough to find his way to Phoenix. I think he is there.

Regular season Champion is in regardless of whether or not he has a win.

Line them up as they will in Phoenix, and Dennis simply does not have Larson's pace....and I am not sure you are going to find it with a parts/development freeze. Fortunately, there is hope as the fastest car doesn't always win. Our current Champion proved that as did the Champion before him.

This is why championships aren’t won in the spring. Not a single team will have the same advantages at Phoenix that they currently have now.
 
Larson did well a few seasons back with multiple wins but had a hard time in the playoffs. Hopefully this season he does better. I have always been a Mark Martin fan and see similarities between the two

Not a bad first practice session... Bowman 2nd fastest and Larson 3rd fastest. Larson with the fastest 10 lap average.
 
I wonder how long Larson continues to be sponsor less. Hendrick cars is not really a sponsor, it's just Rick paying his team..

Against your point: It's early in the season, Larson and the 5 team need to close out races. He's got 3 straight 2nds. That won't do it at Phoenix.

At Darlington, he ran down a car that had a 14 second lead at one point for about 10 laps before tirewear really effected, that was talent imo. Finished 2nd, 2 seconds behind the leader with a car that had no business even making it a race. That counts for something.

Dover, probably a win if the 48 crew doesn't annihilate.

Last weekend. Another 2nd and a decent run.

Larson has been dominant at every 1.5er this year, and as I've said before, he runs that magic JJ line at those tracks that no one seems to talk about - but you and I have in PM really late and wide corner entrys, shortens the corner, drives off the right rear, and a straighter shot on exit. He's got it going on.

Kyle looked real fast at Phoenix as well.


Things can change, absolutely without a doubt. It's early in the season. But in terms of pace, 5 team seems to have the field covered right now.

Really curious about what motorsports analytics has to say, and where Larson ranks in CSR and PEER

Larson is making HMS and Chevy look so good right now that they are not going to let him go anywhere sponsors or no sponsors. I have been gone all day so I could be mistaken but I heard he is on the pole for tomorrow night.

As always, appreciate your perspective. The thing that is impressive to me is that he isn't fazed by not closing out races. This isn't in his head. I wish it was. Tonight will be telling on both the performance side, and obviously, the closing out races side because this race requires staying up with the track. Larson's starting position could either mean that he is carrying the necessary downforce to negotiate traffic and he is mega fast, or he was trimmed out, and he will fall off. If it is the former, we could be looking at a Truex-esque blow out.
