Cup RACE thread --- Richmond

Can they quit calling this place a short track? The only yellow have been for a downed tire and a driver locking the tires up. There has been zero action.

With a length of 0.75 miles, what type of track is it then?
Both fair points. It’s technically a short track, but surely don’t seem to run like one.

Appreciate Dale Jr subtly telling Rick Allen to chill with the gap and fake drama.

Can you believe Rick Allen trying to pretend 3 seconds isn't a massive lead?

This. The racing gods must be appeased.
Well them racing gods are surly not happy now, I don't think sacrificing some goats is gonna be good enough

Oh shut up Rick..not that long ago?

Truex has been a top 5 driver for 7 years now lol

Maybe they accepted Chase shooting himself in the foot two weeks in a row? I dunno, I just watch.

Distance be damned, it’s raced like a Michigan or a Kansas for about 10 years now. These cars just suck here.

I don't have a problem with it, or at least I don't have the same problems with it that are being expressed. However, it really does race like a model of an intermediate built to half scale.

I don't think it is all the track. The Xfinities put on a decent race this afternoon....but they had a much sturdier car that is resistant to damage.

Can't even compare the 2 races. Xfinity was once again head and shoulders above cup

Does Truex get to 40 wins before retiring?

I often wonder how in 70 years 9/11 will be viewed, and how will Pearl Harbor be viewed then?

The same, I'd guess. Both days are etched into American history.

True. Helps that the bodies on Xfinity cars aren’t made of paper mache.

Talking heads are working their tails off trying to make it an interesting post race show with the honker it was

I think Nascar and teams kinda dropped the ball on 911 tonight. Yeah they did some good things at the start but the event was literally 20 ago today.

The lack of patriotic/remembrance schemes and why did they not put names of people that lost their lives on the cars?

Kyle made a good point though, they pretty much couldn’t get wide open at all out there. Tires were pretty much worthless after 50 laps on 3/4 mile track, that’s insane.

The car/track combo clearly isn’t working because those guys looked like they were driving in light rain tonight. And only 9 cars on lead lap? Whoa

Race felt, I'm not sure how to describe.

Oh yes, it felt honest. That's what I mean, not every race is a barn burner. No gimmicks or anything.

Also s/o to Chase and Blaney getting this track down pact. They looked better than they usually have at Richmond.
Perfect way to describe the race. Have I seen better races in person? Of course but I really enjoyed watching guys come and go and watching the numerous battles throughout the field. We all wish every race is a barnburner but even still it was very enjoyable

They race the track and the equipment so much here that it’s hard to race the other cars for that long. They lose over two seconds a lap from tire wear over not even half a fuel run.

Bodies aren’t forgiving either and no one wants to screw up a playoff driver’s race. Chastain barely got into Larson and probably almost cut a tire down. Thankfully contact shouldn’t be something to be so afraid of next year.

“Honest” is a pretty good way to describe it though, at least you can clearly pass or fade through the field if you’re fast or slow, and can’t count on any aero tricks to maintain track position.

When did you start watching NASCAR?
