Interest builds around possible changes to NASCAR schedule

With the way Covid is coming back and the way California is about it that's a big gamble to bring a race there hoping they'll let you run it. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if by November or so California shuts down to professional sports again.

All Star race returns in 2022. But with more Texas sized math equations and Texas sized gimmicks to decide the running order in each segment

I thought of one more… Indy car will run an all star race the same night Cup runs theirs at Texas… and Indy car will throw a formula together for how they determine their running orders in each segment

I am holding out hope, maybe its really naïve and stupid but holding out hope that somehow someway Chicagoland is back on the Cup Schedule. I'd even settle for a Trucks/Xfinity/Indy Car weekend (Open Cup weekend). Maybe Trucks on a Friday night, Xfinity mid day and then Indy Car at night.

A little late to the leak but THRILLED to hear Gateway will have a Cup race next year! Lots of fans in the area will witness a great race (my wife and I will head back there to see our friends from having lived there 14 years, plus bring our son and his wife along who still live in the Lou.). Will be interesting to see how the next gen car navigates such a unique speedway.

Bristol dirt at night makes a lot more sense. I’d like two races on the concrete again but that should make track prep more manageable. Also stoked that Homestead is back in the playoffs.

Looks like IMS is no longer a companion event with IndyCar.

yup. I am going to bet eventually NASCAR is going to rotate the Championship race between Vegas, Miami, Phoenix. Its awesome Miami and Vegas are Round of 8 tracks. Bravo to that move. Also noticed one off week? Holy wow dont think I've seen that before.

The Roval and M'ville as cutoff races are perfect.

It only takes a rainy Sun - Mon - Tue to make that single break go away.

I notice this schedule ends well before November, reducing the overlap with the NFL.

It will be interesting to see if running Bristol on Easter Sunday has any effect on ticket sales. Personally, I don't think it will, or at least not much. If the Easter race was outside the southeast, I'd predict it would have no effect at all.

It ends on November 6, the posted schedule above cuts off the final two weeks, which he posted below it.

I agree that there is definitely an initiative to end the season earlier and overlap less with the behemoth NFL. This is why there is now only one off weekend. I'm not sure how much difference it makes to end the season opposite NFL Week 9 rather than Week 11, but it takes two more races out of direct competition, and that is helpful on the TV side.

Packing the joint the first time is easy. Let's hope they avoid Kentucky Syndrome.

as long as the track at least tries a little bit they should avoid being in a category with Kentucky Speedway. That’s my home track, but they must’ve been absolutely terrible for folks in the sport to deal with. Never really heard many people who have garage access say much positive things about the track or it’s staff.

I'd prefer Kansas losing a race instead of Pocono.
Other than that, I think this is a good schedule. Not a lot has changed from this season and I really liked the new additions to the schedule we saw this year.
Great to see Homestead return to the playoffs and I'm also excited about the new cup race at Gateway.
I do hope the trucks get a new standalone race though, maybe they can return to Iowa when IndyCar is there.

Ben Kennedy was at the coliseum in Cali talking to Chris Meyers on Race Hub. He said they were going with asphalt and starting on building that after the first of the year.
Kennedy said California was the largest market for attendance and number two in the country for TV. (don't shoot the messenger)

I just saw the race would be asphalt, man that just seems like throwing a ton of money at a place for an exhibition race.

2 things, first I'm pretty bummed they scheduled Bristol 1 on Easter weekend next year. Besides the family and community commitments I have, its really hard to get time off of work (for me) around that particular weekend. I had rolled over my Bristol tickets from this year until 2022 because we couldn't stay for the rain date, and now I'm regretting that decision. Should've just got the night race tickets for this weekend they offered.

Second, why not just do the west coast swing to open the season if you're going to start the season in California anyway? Seems like a lot of travel and logistical expense to go from Cali to Florida, back to Cali, to Las Vegas...etc. I'm just thinking out loud really as there is a lot to like about the new schedule, but these are my big issues with it.

If the LA Coliseum Clash is a success, this opens up more stadium short tracks as a viable option.

This could be how NASCAR finally enters the New York market or enters the PNW with a race around Lumen Field in Seattle

They had Clint, Jamie and Reddick racing the track on sims, and it was wider than I thought it would be. It looked a lot wider than Bowman Grey
