USAC 2021

They didn't have a camera on whatever happened between Faccinto and T-Mez to cause that. Shame for Golobic, who looked like a real contender. Larson is back to where he started, will be interesting to see how close he can get to the front now. Elliott isn't as slow as I feared, and he's holding his line well and will gain a lot of experience from running with this field.

Patient race by Grant, well done for him. Kofoid holds on for second and gains a few more points in the championship.

I don't necessarily agree with him in absolute terms. However, I do think there has been a false sense that midgets are safer than they are. Everyone knows that non-winged sprints are exceptionally dangerous in modern racing terms. It seems to be the one thing Kyle Larson won't get in. Not so with midgets, and I think there are many drivers being advanced through them before they are prepared.

Since when did Thomas Maseraull become an expert at what age a driver can race a midget?

He's been complaining about it all year. He has his perspective, but I'm not sure he's the cleanest guy out there to begin with. I think he has a point about some of the teenagers being in over their heads and asking for trouble, but not all.

My remark earlier in the year was that if he doesn't want to race against teenagers, he should find a way to stay in the sprints.

It’s cold in Merced.

And Chase Elliott is doing double duty ... a winged 360 sprint car.

OK, then.

Bryson wins another heat and Maria Cofer transferred out of hers.

Pretty sure she spent the night in hospital after her Placerville tumble.

Honestly can't believe I'm watching Chase Elliott drive a sprint car.

Larson starts fourth and easily wins the first sprint heat. Elliott starts third, fades to fifth, comes back to finish third.

The midget feature flew by without caution. Justin Grant wins another, with Tanner Thorson charging and making a run at him in second, and Buddy Kofoid in third to further his points lead.

Larson can beat this field with one arm tied behind his back. Would be easy pickings for most of the top 410 drivers.

I kinda assumed this be all Larson, Chase is doing what he needs gaining experience. If Larson laps him he can learn some stuff.

That was quite an intense semi. Watching Larson lose spots in a B-Main is surprising, but he makes it. Great multi-car battle for the transfer. Elliott and Ferrucci were running at the back.

Larson will start 10th in the main event, because he gets his spot based on qualifying time back under the USAC format. Will be interesting to see what he can do from there.

I've got to be honest these are some of the worst sprint car drivers I've ever seen

Kofoid wins and I think his championship lead is now relatively safe. It would take a severe mishap at Ventura for Windom to make up that many points.

Larson not a factor, and then drops out. Weird.

Quite a drive by Justin Grant to come from 17th to 3rd. Also Jade Avedisian is impressive.

Kofoid wins and basically locks up the title

I wonder if Larsons engine woes popped back up
