Denny Hamlin Appreciation Thread

I haven't liked Hamlin since day one. He drives like a d***head too often, he's a complete tool off the track, he has a really punchable looking douchey face, and he says and does some really stupid stuff.

That being said, I appreciate Denny speaking his mind and not caring about hurting NASCAR's feelings. Whether you agree with him or not, he's not afraid to speak his mind which is admirable, especially for a guy who has some skin in the game.

Fair.

Watch out, this could be the first domino to fall of the Dennaissance. Him being on the wrong end of the Martinsville miracle may have sparked something. Once you hit the bottom you can only go up.

I didn't like Denny for several years but have gotten to appreciate his racing efforts and actions both on and off the track.
He's an asset to the sport and he races clean if raced clean. You bump him, he'll bump you so expect it. That is what racing is.

People complained about his sour puss when leaning against his car after Chastain did the wall thing to gain the final championship four position but honestly, how may of you who dislike Denny would have reacted differently?
Hamlin's comments immediately after learning he lost the spot and in subsequent comments was not whining.
Like him or hate him, Denny Hamlin is a great competitor and team owner. .

Hamlin to me is an odd duck. He has been in the series for years and I am not aware of him doing anything to help the series in all of those years unless you count a bunch of whining and complaining that has only gotten worse the longer he is around. He has never been a teammate, I don't think he knows how or cares to extend himself.

I agree. Something always seems to be missing. His crew chief is legit. Team is legit. Manufacturer is elite. Can't get my head around it.

😆

Receives too much hate. At times it can be warranted, however Denny Hamlin is in the same vein as Harvick.

An older veteran who just continues to grind and keeps himself upfront about every single weekend. It does not matter the track configuration or generation of car. Hamlin just continues to evolve and just be consistent. I think it was 2018 and I was concerned about him with younger drivers coming up at the time with Christopher Bell and Erik Jones developing at the time.

Yet after that winless season, he just continued to get better and rack up wins. He is an all-time great.
Statistically, he is the greatest to not win a championship... I actually think he is better than Mark, however that's JMO as I appreciate them both a ton.

Denny said it himself, he's never been the naturally talented or guy with a lot of natural speed. He works hard, he takes care of himself and even with aliments like multiple knee injuries and a broken back. He just continues to move along and my respect for him has grown a lot. He studies, he does a lot of work on the sim, and does all the things you would want a championship caliber driver to do. This guy was horrible on the road course and now he's turned into a top 10 driver on them. He was highly inconsistent at times, but he's adjusted and improved. Just as he's gotten older, he's gotten better and is still a top 5 driver in the field at this moment.

Can he be mouthy at times? Yes.
Can he make an ass of himself? Yes.
A bit of a douche at times? Yes.

That just what makes Denny tick.

This is actually pretty crazy.

Just saying that Denny is a quality driver, currently 16th on the all-time list. I’m not “going anywhere” with it.
I’m making a factual statement.
Yeah he's a heck of a stock car driver, but as far as overall driver talent the two don't even compare.

Hate him or not smoke is one of a handful of guys that can driver just about anything and be competitive. Heck he's even doing good in drag racing now. IMO guys like AJ Foyt, Mario Andretti and Tony Stewart are in their own class as far as driving talents. The only active driver I see anywhere along those lines today might be Kyle Larson.

Eh, I think Hambone is going to have to get off the golf course and shooting hoops and get back to his 10,000 race winning ways lol.

Sure but I’m the context of this thread Tony and Denny aren’t that far apart.

Hell of a Driver no doubt. But a douche and therefore hard to root for and easy to root against. Incredible talent scout though.

In the overall scheme of things, when someone says Denny is a dumba$$ and douchebag, I get flashbacks to Tony's days in NASCAR as a driver and team owner. I see many similarities in their personalities, business acumen and speaking out about other drivers, teams and comments spoken in anger, those filled with heartfelt emotion or what is viewed by them as something requiring the attention of NASCAR. Seems Denny and Tony are extremely competitive and organized in racing, in business and both have an intense desire to improve the sport. If those negative comments were directed toward Tony and not Denny, or vice versa, it might be asked why, when after review of their history in NASCAR, one might be considered more deserving than the other to sit in the "bad guy" corner.

Denny Hamlin seems like the type of guy to win a few more Daytona 500’s at least. I think he has his moments as a driver, wants to be too much celebrity it seems sometimes with Mike.

One of the greatest Superspeedway drivers of all time. Maybe the greatest.
