NASCAR at LeMans

I’d be shocked if they let this thing go 235, they haven’t had those speeds since introducing the chicanes after ‘89.

The biggest focus I think is getting it quick enough through the corners that it doesn’t get flattened from behind through somewhere like Porsche Curves.
What do you think is a reasonable estimate for top speed?

Is this likely to be the heaviest vehicle in the race? Will they be expected to make more than the usual number of brake changes?

They’re shedding weight but who knows how much, the heaviest GTE car is likely around 2850 pounds dry from 3200 for the Next Gen.

“It’s definitely a big step. I mean, we have … where do I start?” Rockenfeller said after wrapping up his day’s work of hustling the car around the 3.27-mile VIR full-course layout. “We have less weight, we have a bit more downforce. Tires are the same, because we did the tire testing in Atlanta, so similar-ish. Power is a bit different, so we increased a little bit there as well in that area, Now we have paddle-shift, we have traction control in, we have a new dash. I mean, everything is different, basically. So we are pretty close to what we think will be the race car in Le Mans. But of course, it’s still a very long way to go.

“We will improve in pace and reliability, definitely. So I would say that’s the difference. Between the current Cup car, and this test car, again, it’s pretty much the same, I would say, its weight, its power, its tire grip – it’s just a lot faster. I mean, to give you a figure, around here, I think we are around 10 seconds faster than what I did in a Cup car, so it’s quite a lot faster.”

That's what happens when you throw the rule book away and turn some of the best race engineers loose with a pretty unlimited budget on the car lol.

This stuff is cool kinda flashback to the early days of nascar when innovation was allowed.

They are going to come up with a better version of the new car for sure after all this. Excited for next year to see what they come up with after spending the France's money and how the modded car does at LeMans

also note that this chassis looks like one piece ,not 3.they saved allot of weight doing this.

...and of course, there is no advantage for Chevy in all of this being in the forefront of the future of the ****** car they will eventually race. None. Nothing to see here. ....but everybody can be there and watch....yeah, okay. bull**** Mr. France....complete bull****.

Settle down buddy. They're working on a car that they can't race in nascar and all other manufactures see everything they're doing

Let him whine, it's music to the ears. At least he will have something to blame and he will have the opportunity to be a true victim in his imaginary world. It's his happy place from what I gather.
I hope Nascar doesn't overcompensate and let them get away with sticking on their super rice burner cheated up front end to put on the car after all of the work and resourses the dream team have spent trying to give us a really good car to race with and making sure the car doesn't embarrass the series in Europe.

That's true I also work with some people that are only happy when they're miserable

Nothing to learn, and total transparency. That's why the project is a collaboration among several teams and manufacturers...and the selection process was open to everyone. Wait,

Nice. I like the new filler neck location

I'm sorry, what's 'reverse rake'?

Sometimes I move the rake to my left side instead of my right.
The front of the car sits higher than the rear.

I’m guessing why is two-fold - feed more air towards the back of the underbody and accelerate it as it reaches the diffuser and get the spoiler out of air for a more low-drag setup.

Thread to Chevy at LeMans. This isn't a NASCAR endeavor......like the Next Gen was.....which could have served as a template for participation....but ya know....Chevy.

When is this race? Will it be covered the Rolex?

Absolutely HATE if I want to cheer for a team with American roots it has to be Felony Motorsports. And I’m like Rev, don’t tell me this doesn’t help Felony Motorsports future development of car and engines. I’m SURE it’s an open book on the engine especially. 🙄

Love to year Penske and Roush opinions on this. Not what they are made to say by NASCAR.

I heard a host on a NASCAR XM show say he is hearing
driving the Garage 56 car at LeMans is not exactly on the top
of everybodies to do list. The car will be the only one in its class
so its not really racing anyone else for a class win. That apparently
is not exactly appealing to the top drivers in Nascar. So I guess
it will be interesting to see who the driver lineup ends up being
for the ride. 24 Hr of LeMans is June 10th and 11th 2023.

I would think finding a full time Cup driver having the time to practice and be familiar with the car and the track would be a problem. I think Johnson and Gordon might be in the running. Johnson is already testing the car on a wet track.

It's as much of a Jim France endeavor as it is anybody else. This is indeed a NASCAR project.
