NFL 2022-23

Statistically, Belichick is the best coach. How is it possible his team didn’t make the playoffs???? 🤔
Must be because football is about players and not just coaches.

Someone on Twitter really said “I literally don’t think any other fan base understands the pain of being a chargers fan.” 😂 I as a Falcons fan had to set him straight
Honestly the Chargers might have it worse than anyone in the AFC at least, they’ve had three different teams go 12-4, 13-3, 14-2 this century that didn’t win a single playoff game.

And you provided a speculative answer. By your assessment of NFL coaching, Belichick could win the superbowl regardless if he migrated from team to team every year.
Don’t ask a speculative question if you’re gonna disregard it then.

Staley is a legend in the making and he’ll use this to bounce back and win the AFC next year. There.

So if Belichick is the best coach in the NFL, where currently is his team?
You suggested this NFL thing is all-coach.

You suggested this NFL thing is all-coach.
I actually never suggested such a thing. You seemed to think Staley was helpless to do anything about the meltdown tonight.

Nevermind that he started the team in a hole this week by getting a player needlessly injured in an irrelevant game last Sunday.

Don’t backpedal.
“You know I don’t even know why they have coaches there on the sideline. It’s not like Staley is the defensive play caller and situational decision maker, nor is he supposed to make adjustments and regroup in between action. They’re pretty much just fans like you and I….”

Never in there did I say it’s “all coach”. Not sure how you got that out of it.

You hammered Staley for the loss while not applying any blame to the players on the field.
What coach could’ve guaranteed a win for the Chargers tonight?

I’m not trying to bust your balls. Just trying to hold you to what you posted. The loss tonight isn’t all on Staley. There have been a lot of injuries this year.
They win as a team and they lose as a team. The loss tonight isn’t on the coach or the quarterback or the offense or the defense. Collectively, they lost a playoff game.
Fire the coach and the team would lose under similar circumstances.
No hard feelings debating with you. Just a disagreement.

Enjoy it today Jag fans. I think reality will come soon enough.

Reality: A team that was supposed to go 6-11 and finish third in the AFC South, being a few years away from a playoff run, just scored a playoff win at home in one of the biggest comebacks in the history of professional football. And we've got Calvin Ridley coming next year.

I have no idea what’s up with the Chargers strength & conditioning group or the training staff because it does seem they have more injuries than most pretty much every season. Williams was an avoidable one though, he didn’t need to play last week and would’ve been helpful to a team that struggled in the red zone and couldn’t move the ball much at all really when the Jags didn’t gift them field position tonight.

Football is equal parts personnel and coaching and while the players have to execute, the coaches have equal responsibility to put the players in position to succeed. When you’re the defensive play caller and the other team is in a huge hole you know they’re going to throw 70% of the time, you just can’t give up five scores in a row. This would go for anyone in that position, you can’t sell yourself as a defensive guy, call the shots, and get away with failing spectacularly. The Jags and Giants are great examples of new coaches taking over tire fires and making an immediate positive impact with mostly the same personnel, or vice versa in the case of the Bucs.

While it isn’t relevant tonight the guy also has a pretty well-documented overreliance on analytics without any real feel or situational understanding, just over a year ago he went for it on 4th & 1 inside his own 20 in the final game against the Raiders that led to them giving up easy points, and it was far from the first time he’d done that.

Knowing how the league works he'll probably get another HC gig at some point but he’s burned out any goodwill he had left with Chargers fans, and the organization is probably ready to move on to an offensive-minded guy to help Herbert develop.

I was talking about next week.

Yes, it was an awesome win. Congrats. Hated to see you give up on your team so early though?

Dolphins are for real in this game right now 🐬 key turnovers, Skylar Thompson has been better than expected despite wr stone hand drops, they get the ball to start 2nd half.
